The Carpenters produced some of the most beautiful pop songs of all time, and now they're being reimagined with a full orchestra.

Richard Carpenter has made a new album of Carpenters classics at London's prestigious Abbey Road Studios.

He has teamed up with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a new album, to be released via Universal. The album will feature his late sister Karen Carpenter's iconic vocals placed on top of brand new orchestral arrangements.

Carpenters With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be released on December 7.

    The full tracklisting is:

    1. Overture
    2. Yesterday Once More
    3. I Need To Be In Love
    4. For All We Know
    5. Touch Me When We're Dancing
    6. I Believe You
    7. I Just Fall In Love Again
    8. Merry Christmas, Darling
    9. Baby It's You
    10. (They Long To Be) Close To You
    11. Superstar
    12. Rainy Days and Mondays
    13. This Masquerade
    14. Ticket To Ride
    15. Goodbye To Love
    16. Top Of The World
    17. We've Only Just Begun

The biggest-selling duo of all-time are having their biggest hits reworked by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - so far, we have 3 songs and they're all majestic in their own way, but Ticket to Ride is easily my favourite of them...one word: incredible.

I am SO excited for this - I grew up on their music, and Karen's voice remains one of the most ethereal sounds you'll ever hear.

Having The Carpenters in the new music section is almost as alien as having ABBA’s new music in it

I grew up on these too, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve done with my favs - gutted they skipped Solitaire though.

These albums tend to do tremendously at Christmas (Roy Orbison had the 13th biggest-selling album of 2017 in the UK with his selling almost 220,000 copies last year alone) - the success driving a follow up, released today.

I suspect something similar will happen with The Carpenters, I have hope that they'll do Solitaire at some point - their greatest song IMO.

Love The Carpenters, and I'm quite happy to see these kind of albums keep coming out to remind us how great some of the music of yesterday was.

Solitaire and Calling Occupants missing here though.

    Album is released tomorrow, excited!

There was a segment on BBC News this morning about this, Richard was interviewed - great segment.

I wonder how well this will do over Christmas!

I hope it does well, The Carpenters have a great legacy and if Roy Orbison can pull a hit album out of this there is no reason Richard and Karen can't do the same. I for one will give the album a run through and that will be the first album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra I will be able to say as much.

Roy's album sold 250,000 copies in the UK, very quietly with only sparing TV advertising - I hope this does something similar!

I read 'The Carters' (aka Beyoncé and Jay-Z)
Now that would have been interesting.

Listening now, the abrupt ending to Yesterday Once More now makes sense!

I hate that there’s a Christmas song bang in the middle.

It does but my biggest thought listening to that is why mess with perfection?

"Goodbye To Love" is my favorite. Damn.

Listening to this right now, what a stunning record - the producers didn't do too much to the songs, but what they've added (the supplementary instrumentation, the beautiful backing vocals and most crucially of all - the remastering of the records) really serves to highlight the strength of the Carpenters' catalogue. I reckon we're getting a second edition this Christmas, ala what they've done with Roy Orbison.

^That would be amazing. As I'm currently discovering their discography, I realize how many amazing songs are not featured on this record (and the one's that are included are already A+!).
