It's that time again... 2018 was a big year for my chart as always.

One of the biggest trends was major hits by nostalgia artists continuing their takeover and hitting #1 in a frequency previously unseen on my chart. However, the 2 most successful artists, much like the remainder of the decade, have been Kate Voegele and Kelly Clarkson, who have continued their success for me in 2018.

These 10 songs in the poll were all big hits on my chart. But which one will be my #1 song of the entire year?

would be great to see 'I Don't Think About You' pretty high, possibly at #1 as it was my favorite Kelly song in a long time. Voted for it.

She's up against two Kate songs, but I'm still going with Kelly C. in the poll.

    10 . Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry (PEAK: # 1 for 2 weeks )

In a world where many big-name pop artists have done nothing but disappoint me, Ariana Grande is one who I've continued to enjoy. This lead single from her "Sweetener" album, despite having sad lyrics, had an upbeat tune that stuck in my head and became an anthem of resilience following the Manchester bombing and became her fourth #1 (of five so far) on my chart. While she's had past successes, this is her first time ever in the top 10 of my year-end chart so well done Ariana and hopefully the success will continue into 2019!

    9 . Backstreet Boys - Don't Go Breaking My Heart (PEAK: # 1 for 2 weeks )

It's become clear that I've been very unsatisfied with the big pop hits over the past few years, and indeed, this was the highest song on here that made the top 40 on pop radio this year. However, it was a nice surprise to see one of my favourite groups of the 90's, the Backstreet Boys, get a surprise comeback top 20 pop hit this year! This song became my favourite from them in a long time and their first year-end top 10 since 2000's "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely". Their current single "Chances" stands just that to do well for me in 2019. Backstreet's back, alright!

    8 . Gin Blossoms - Break (PEAK: # 1 for 3 weeks )

One of the bands who always makes me nostalgic for their 90's peak is the Gin Blossoms. Ever since their reunion in 2006, I've maintained an interest in their more recent music too. I anticipated their "Mixed Reality" album, their first in 8 years, and this lead single certainly didn't disappoint me, spending three weeks at #1 and having top 10 longevity.

    7 . Lorde - Supercut (PEAK: # 1 for 2 weeks )

In 2017, Lorde's "Melodrama" album became one of my most pleasant surprises of that year, and this upbeat, danceable song about memories of a past relationship, was one of my instant favourites from said album. When it came time to chart it this year upon its single release, I knew it had to go to #1, and sure enough, Lorde got her second #1 following "Perfect Places" from the same album.

    6 . Celine Dion - Ashes (PEAK: # 1 for 2 weeks )

When you think Celine Dion movie songs, you think of songs from Beauty And The Beast or Titanic most likely. But I never expected her to do a song for a Deadpool movie! Sure enough, this song, her best in a long time, actually fit well, and became her first #1 in a decade for me. In a year filled with nostalgia, one of my favourite artists of the 90's fit the nostalgia curve very well with one of her strongest lately!

    5 . Kate Voegele - Not The Only One (PEAK: # 2 )

When I first heard Kate Voegele's 2016 album "Canyonlands", I felt it was strong from start to finish, but this song was always one of my favourites. And when it came this song's time to chart for me, I knew it was going to be huge for me - and it was, spending 27 weeks in the top 100 in typical Voegele longevity fashion. Indeed, every single song on the album made the top 4 on my chart - an unparalleled feat. This song, while it couldn't get past one of my strongest #1's ever, still placed a solid 5th on my year-end chart - but it isn't her highest!

    4 . Hall & Oates & Train - Philly Forget Me Not (PEAK: # 1 for 1 week )

Many artists that are nostalgic for me delivered their best work in years in 2018 for me, and Hall & Oates are a perfect example of that. I've enjoyed many of their 70's and 80's classics, so naturally I was interested in this new single from them. Teaming up with their most recent tourmates, Train, on this one, this fits right in the pantheon of Hall & Oates classics for me, and while it only spent one week on top of my chart, its overall longevity (29 weeks in my top 100) helped it get #4 on my year-end.

    3 . Kate Voegele - Shoot This Arrow (PEAK: # 1 for 7 weeks )

One constant on my chart is that whenever Kate Voegele releases a new single, it will always be a huge hit for me. This song was no exception - inspired by the "me too" movement, as well as her personal involvement in it, it represents a departure in her normal guitar-based sound for a more trap-sounding song. This didn't matter as she shot her arrow straight to #1 on my chart, staying #1 for 7 weeks and ending up as my #3 song of 2018!

    2 . Kelly Clarkson - I Don't Think About You (PEAK: # 1 for 5 weeks )

If there is any artist, other than Kate Voegele, who has a means of always getting big hits on my chart, it really has to be Kelly Clarkson. Her latest album, "Meaning Of Life", got 7 songs into the top 10 on my chart, and this song proved to be the biggest of all from it, spending 5 weeks at #1 on my chart. An easily relateable song, with powerful vocals that Kelly puts all her emotion into, all added up for a huge hit for me, and my second biggest hit of the entire year!

    1 . Demi Lovato - Sober (PEAK: # 1 for 7 weeks )

If neither Kate nor Kelly could get my #1 of the year... who could?

This song started off with a sad story as its singer, Demi Lovato, relapsed into her past addictions and sadly, even got hospitalized after an overdose, but thankfully, she survived and has been in rehab. In such a personal song like this chronicling her struggles, I can often really feel the emotions sung, and when it broke the record for biggest leap into my #1 spot ever, I knew it had to be my #1 song of the year just from the way that her emotions showed in here. It spent 7 weeks at #1 on my chart, a personal best for her.

I've always been a sucker for personal songs like this, and while I do feel sad for what she has gone through, and optimistic that she will persevere and win her battles, this song really was the song I had to put at #1 for the entire year! Well done Demi - after several years of regularly getting #1's and top 10's on my chart (indeed, this is her 8th straight year ranking on my year-end survey), she finally has her well-deserved year-end #1!

    49. Ghost - Dance Macabre
    45. Switchfoot & Lifehouse - Shine Like Gold
    15. Sheryl Crow feat. Annie Clark - Wouldn't Want To Be Like You
Three more nice ones that I'd never heard before.
