    Yay Kitten.
I'm not keen on that Plumb song but the album of the same name is great.
Catherine McGrath album is good but i prefer the Megan McKenna album she helped on.

Top 25 Older Songs in 2018

37.6 percent of all my plays in 2018 were of songs released during the year (the lowest such figure since 2012), leaving just above 40,000 plays for older songs. Of course, those plays are distributed among a much larger number of songs; 8,615 such songs got at least one full play during the year. But there are some songs released before 2018 that did much better than average, particulary songs I heard for the first time in 2018, songs from late 2017 and the biggest songs from 2017. Here is the top 25 of those songs:

      Older song #25. Emmelie de Forest – Only Teardrops (2013) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 55 / 928
Best Month in 2018: May (62%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
      YEC Position in 2013: 2

      Older song #24. Emmelie de Forest – Change (2013) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 55 / 999
Best Month in 2018: May (58%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
      YEC Position in 2013: 4

Older song #23. Maggie Reilly – So Much More (1993) A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 84 / 826
Best Month in 2018: May (30%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, much too old)
YEC Position in 1993: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

This is my most played song from the 1990's (helped by the fact that I didn't discover it until autumn 1999, so it was still quite "fresh" when I started measuring plays a few months later) and for unknown reasons it did better in 2018 than in an average year.

      Older song #22. Beatrice Egli – Keiner küsst mich (2017) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 97 / 227
Best Month in 2018: March (69%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 15
      YEC Position in 2017: 71

      Older song #21. Scavenger Hunt – Ghosts (2017) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 101 / 141
Best Month in 2018: February (47%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 6
      YEC Position in 2017: 138

Older song #20. Meghan Patrick – Country Music Made Me Do It (2017) S V

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 104 / 539
Best Month in 2018: February (47%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 10
      YEC Position in 2017: 13

      Older song #19. Simone – Heart Shaped Hole (2016) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 114 / 2,377
Best Month in 2018: February (25%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, a little bit too old)
      YEC Position in 2016: 1

The 2016 YEC #1 didn't do amazing in 2018, but it is the only song from the 2016 YEC appearing in this top 25.

      Older song #18. Mylène Farmer – Désenchantée (1991) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 118 / 250
Best Month in 2018: November (51%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, far too old)
YEC Position in 1991: (didn't chart, the YEC did not exist yet)

I actually discovered this in 1991 (despite that it wasn't a hit here in Sweden), and listened to it quite a bit that year (alas, this was long before I was able to count plays, so those are not included in the stats). It got new life this year due to the boom for songs in French.

      Older song #17. Alphaville – Forever Young (1984) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 123 / 413
Best Month in 2018: February (27%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, way too old)
YEC Position in 1984: (didn't chart, the YEC did not exist yet)

This classic gets a lot of plays from time to time, especially since 2013 because there is something about it that reminds me of the song at #6. (Or is it the other way around? Either way, the song has benefitted from this.)

      Older song #16. Echosmith – Get Into My Car (2017) S V

      (EP cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 125 / 711
Best Month in 2018: February (38%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 11
      YEC Position in 2017: 10

      Older song #15. RaeLynn – The Apple (2017) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 130 / 501
Best Month in 2018: February (40%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 8
      YEC Position in 2017: 18

      Older song #14. Emmelie de Forest – Sanctuary (2017) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 142 / 528
Best Month in 2018: February (29%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 5
      YEC Position in 2017: 17

      Older song #13. Joyce Jonathan – L'heure avait sonné (2010) S V

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 182 / 182
Best Month in 2018: October (81%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
YEC Position in 2010: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

      Older song #12. Joyce Jonathan – Bien trop simple (2010) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 204 / 204
Best Month in 2018: October (75%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
YEC Position in 2010: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

      Older song #11. Jenny – Alles klar (2017) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 227 / 623
Best Month in 2018: August (44%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 2
      YEC Position in 2017: 15

Older song #10. Annemarie Eilfeld – Dein Herz ist eine Geisterstadt (2016) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 261 / 280
Best Month in 2018: July (24%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 23
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
YEC Position in 2016: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

      Older song #9. Alma – Après l'aurore (2017) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 273 / 1,203
Best Month in 2018: February (23%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 25
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 5
      YEC Position in 2017: 4

Older song #8. Catherine McGrath – Talk of This Town (2017) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 298 / 931
Best Month in 2018: February (16%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 19
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 9
      YEC Position in 2017: 8

      Older song #7. Joyce Jonathan – Sans patience (2013) S A

      (Album cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 344 / 344
Best Month in 2018: October (79%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 136
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
YEC Position in 2013: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

My clear favourite out of the older Joyce Jonathan songs that I heard for the first time this year.

      Older song #6. Emmelie de Forest – Haunted Heart (2013) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 550 / 9,517
Best Month in 2018: October (29%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 95
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: (didn't chart, too old)
      YEC Position in 2013: 1

2018 was the 6th calendar year this song was available, and it still doesn't really feel like an "old" song, even though it now dropped to just over half as many plays as it got in 2016 and 2017. It needs to stay at almost the same level in 2019 to reach 10,000 plays on the Decade chart. (Maybe I should "cheat" and make sure it gets to exactly 10,000 total plays?)

      Older song #5. Kate Todd – You're Gonna Find Out (2017) S V

      (EP cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 599 / 1,663
Best Month in 2018: August (22%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 50
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 2
      YEC Position in 2017: 3

      Older song #4. Maia – Du' kærlighed for mig (2017) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 681 / 3,182
Best Month in 2018: February (34%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 93
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 1 (1 week)
      YEC Position in 2017: 1

The 2017 YEC #1 did pretty well in 2018 as well, although compared to its success last year 681 plays isn't spectacular.

      Older song #3. Alyssa Micaela – Clean Break (2017) S A

      (EP cover)

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 734 / 2,004
Best Month in 2018: January (17%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 79
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 3
      YEC Position in 2017: 2

      Older song #2. Tone Damli – Strangers (2017) S A

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 979 / 979
Best Month in 2018: July (32%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 162
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 1 (8 weeks)
YEC Position in 2017: (didn't chart, not yet discovered)

This song by Norwegian singer Tone Damli would have been #2 on the YEC if only it had been included on an EP or album released in 2018.

Older song #1. Catherine McGrath – Thought It Was Gonna Be Me (2017) S V

      Plays in 2018 / Total Plays: 992 / 1,797
Best Month in 2018: February (17%)
Highest Weekly Plays in 2018: 67
Peak Position on Weekly Chart in 2018: 2
      YEC Position in 2017: 5

The 2017 YEC #5, which was released in late November that year, turned out to be the song from 2017 that did the best in 2018, although it lands on the wrong side of 1,000 plays, making 2018 the weakest year since 2013 in terms of the highest play count for an older song.

        Re: Magnus's Top 100 Songs of 2018: #1 + Albums + 25 Older S

Golden Hour is a lovely album. Not surprised that it ended up in your top 5.

Among your older songs, my fave is "Only Teardrops", one of the finest ESC entries ever!

Agreed, the album is great, should probably be at #3 if I ranked the albums subjectively instead of by (adjusted) plays, although this may vary from day to day.

I'm glad you like it, but what do you mean "one of"? Some scientific facts: Water is a liquid at room temperature, the sky is blue and "Only Teardrops" is the greatest ESC entry ever (probably including 2019–20?? too).

Interesting list for the older songs - thanks for sharing them!
There are a lot of songs I like or even love, the ones by Emmelie are clearly my favorite ones. Especially happy to see "Only Teardrops". I think I actually never asked you about your favorite songs from the record (apart from the obvious "Haunted Heart")... so I wonder what you think of "Let It Fall"? That's my most favorite song of Emmelie and also belongs to my all time faves these days.

Also nice to see Vanessa Mai being in the Top10 of your Artists Charts!

                ^ Thanks for commenting, Tansike!

Yeah, I posted the chart with the most played older songs in 2015 and 2016 so I thought I would do the same for 2018.

I remember you said before that "Let It Fall" is your favourite, but I don't remember if I answered how I would rank the songs on the album. Not much has changed since 2013 in this regard, so let's look at the positions on the 2013 YEC, where all of the songs were in the top 33: Haunted Heart #1, Only Teardrops #2, Change #4, Force of Nature #12, What Are You Waiting For #14, Let It Fall #17, Beat the Speed of Sound #28, Soldier of Love #29, Running in My Sleep #32, Hunter & Prey #33. Since then "Change" has passed "Only Teardrops" in total plays, mostly because it did noticably better in 2014. But I can't say for sure I like that song more now; those two remain very close. The next three are also close, with almost equal number of plays for FoN and WAYWF and "Let It Fall" not too far behind. The remaining four songs are also close to each other, but pretty far behind the rest.

                  ^ Thanks for replying!
Ah, so Emmelie picked one of the worst possible choices for the second single for you, I guess...
Glad to see "Let It Fall" isn't among your least favorite ones! Very interesting order for the 2013 chart; I guess I forgot that "Only Teardrops" was that big for you, as I thought it wasn't an obvious standout of the album for you. I really need to revisit the album, it's such a strong piece of work and it's sad how she never really put out a proper follow-up to that

^ Does that mean you didn't read my reply to Akini above? ;)

Yes, I think I even commented in my "diary" how "Hunter & Prey" was the worst single choice for me. At least she picked the best picture from the album booklet as the cover picture for it... And I still like that song too; if I would rank all albums I own according to the worst song on them, Emmelie's album would still be at least in the top 5, the same as in the normal ranking.

For me, "Rise Like a Phoenix" and "Goodbye to Yesterday" are better, but top 3 isn't bad!

                        No, I didn't

Aw. I hate that when one of my favorite artist picks the 'wrong' single. It also was a mystery to me how she ended the era after that second single, she should have pushed the album so much more. Oh well. Good to hear that, it's impressive if even the worst song on an album is that good in an overall ranking!

I have updated the posts in this thread to fix the errors (missing characters and formatting errors) caused by the forum conversion.

I have decided to not make a thread with my 2019 YEC or the 2010's DEC. Too much work and (almost?) nobody really cares.

Links to my earlier YEC threads: (Those have only been partially corrected, but the errors are less severe there.)

That's make me sad (I really wanted to see Anmary in your list and re-listen her beautiful song again), but can understand your decision. I canceled my 2019 year-end chart for the same reason.

In my head I like to imagine LastDreamer in the land of Lithuania right now with a suitcase of simcards, a box of chocolates and a wedding ring. It would be a great base for an epic Eurovision fan fiction.

I had forgotten about it, but I just found that I wrote this in a comment reply earlier this year:

(If I don't get banned from UKMix before that, when 2019 is over I will do a countdown of the Decade chart, i.e. my most played songs from the 2010's, instead of the 2019 YEC.)
So unless I manage to get myself banned very soon, the way I wrote that I guess that despite what I just said earlier today I have to post the DEC in some form. And now I almost got excited about it... I'm not going to start it until everything is ready though, which will be at least 10-15 days into the new year. (Which also gives me more time to get banned or the forum to crash in the next update...)

Already came here to say I'm sad there won't be another list from you, but glad to hear that there may be a DEC chart at least!

Maybe you still like to post a short YEC Top10 or something?

For 2019 the top of the YEC will just be an ordered subset of the DEC! If I post the full (top 500) DEC, then the top x of the 2019 YEC can easily be inferred from that, where I guess x will be around 40. And of course this means it would also be easy to post that separately, but not before the DEC.

Yes, don't desert us. I can tell you now that my own best song/single of the decade would be one you like - i've already given it away on Twitter. I don't think i have the patience to do a decade chart. Not yet, anyway.

There is a DEC thread now, although I seem to be more interested in new experimental (probably highly unreadable) ways to present it than to prepare it in the old format.

Scratch that! I have now decided to make a YEC thread for 2019 too:

I know I said I wouldn't make a thread for my 2019 YEC, but I changed my mind!
