When I read this comment in the Europarade-thread I guess it's not only a German problem:

    Quote:
For the first time in quite a while, there are exactly one hundred tracks appearing in the top fifteens of
Western Europe, as the music consumers of many countries are largely choosing tracks performed -
especially those "rapped" - in their own dominant language. This is particularly so in France - nine new
entries in the 2,235th Europarade included three from rapper Ninho, whose latest album occupies fourteen
of the top fifteen places in the French singles chart.

What would you say regarding Mero's album's first week sales in Germany? Mediatraffic have them estimated at 81k worldwide (=Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Charts.de have them estimated at 89.5% of Roland Kaiser's sales (the No. 10 album is at 33.6%). With no official announcement of the actual sales, which one is closer to the truth?

    ------------

In the US, rap remixes used to help singles get additional spins on the radio, e.g. Katy Perry's ET through the help of Kanye West's feature. In Germany, rap music used to be considered as shabby and inferior compared to singing, which is why radio stations used to edit out the rap parts in Olly Murs's 'Heart Skips a Beat' or Jessie J's 'Price Tag', as they could scare off listeners. Some rap albums could reach high peaks in the 00s (e.g. by Sido or Bushido) but never charted for long due to the lack of mainstream support. The albums by Casper or Cro were among the first rap albums to chart for a longer time, though they weren't pure hip hop but rather pop rap and rock rap. IIrc, Kollegah and Farid Bang were the first gangster rappers with very high opening sales, still without major longevity or mainstream support though. If you ask me, it was Boney MC and RAF Camora's 'Palmen aus Plastik' that changed the view on rap music in the German-speaking countries. The album has charted for over 2 years in Germany and 'Ohne mein Team' for a total of 88 weeks. Ever since its release, it got easier for rap releases to chart high and longer to a point where all singles charting in the top 10 are rap songs performed in German. Would you say that 'Ohne mein Team' sums up the current zeitgeist and therefore serves as an unofficial hymn of the youth in a way 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' used to in the mid 90s?

I kinda hate how these German rappers also took over the Swiss Charts these days. Plus Capital Bra already released another album today - he already released one in June and one in November last year, so three albums in less than a year. That's milking the cow IMO and I can't believe people actually buy that.

^ Rammstein released their physical single and Capital doesn't have his physical album out yet, he released early on digital due to a leak. Still interesting to see how much you depend on physicals, but it isn't a big surprise when it comes to first week peaks.

Walking On Cars ("Colours“, sieben) sowie die Pet Shop Boys ("Inner Sanctum - Live At The Royal Opera House, 2018", elf) setzen zusätzliche Akzente.

Don't know about you, @KokoCollino, but I'm surprised that Mike Singer made it to No. 1 this week as he was competing with Andrea Berg's 2nd week. Both of his albums, currently uncertified, debuted at No. 1 but dropped out of the top 10 in week 2. 'Deja Vu's opening sales weren't too impressive either as the No. 9 album sold 50% of it that week and Klubbb3's 'Wir werden immer mehr' almost outsold it (95%) with their 2nd week (and they are far from being as popular as Andrea Berg). Could it be that he's more popular now or is it just due to the higher price of his album's deluxe edition? On Amazon, Andrea Berg's album is still at No. 2 (behind Rammstein's pre-order album), Mike Singer's album is at No. 46.
