Never too early to start thinking about the next AIWFCIY campaign, lol. I have several ideas.
Assuming Billboard don’t change the rules - I think we can guarantee streaming points will be reasonably strong. Last year it was actually sales that let us down. We need to focus more on iTunes this year (i.e. a download day). Let’s get it to #1 on iTunes Charts.
The 25th anniversary is also the perfect opportunity for Sony to release some limited edition bundles. Artists are doing this regularly now, so why not?
Some ideas:
- 25th anniversary vinyl single + digital download
- 25th anniversary autographed vinyl single (limited edition) + digital download
- 25th anniversary cassette single + digital download
- AIWFCIY Christmas sweater + digital download
- Christmas cards that play the song when opened + digital download
Ideally these would be available for pre-order early December, then shipping Christmas week (I know people wouldn’t get them until after Christmas but I don’t care - we need the chart points to count for the Christmas week, lol)
Apparently there’s also a movie coming out called Last Christmas (based around the song) which will give that song a major boost in sales and streams - it could be a real threat.
