I spent $30 on Glitter last year, $12 is not a problem (+ the premium thing is totally optional). This is a very festive yet opinionated lamb community, IE perfect.
Moderation Concerns

Will the mods be just as quick to ban an offending premium user as they would a non-premium user? Remember back when MCIIY leaked and all the lambs started sharing individual tracks on here and we had a lot of bans? It's going to put the moderating team in an awkward situation if something widespread again like that occured and a lot of the members are paying ones.Originally Posted by emancipationofmeme
A lot of topics like this won’t get enough consistent activity and get archived after 2 weeks. That’s also way too short of a time by the way for automatic archiving. Some topics won’t be that active but will still always be relevant. If mods see that a thread that’s outlived its usefulness then they could just resolve it.
Premium and non-premium features

Hmmm I'm not so sure about the idea of a premium service.
I get that the Mariah fans bring a lot of traffic to the site which raises running costs. But it seems like the UKmix team don't like how big the Mariah community is on here. It's kind of like - let's put them in their own exclusive little corner and let them pay for it. I understand it's optional, but I'm a bit uneasy about the potential hierarchy this could create between premium and non-premium users.
Wayne also stated that premium users will "drive the discussion". That sounds like an unfair system to me. I know it's only $12 a year, but what I don't get is why the Mariah fans are seemingly being targeted.Originally Posted by MCPH

With this segregation you're forming 1 big clique, who will then decide the talking points, empowering them to shut down standard users they don't agree withOriginally Posted by WEBofDESIRE
I think you are overthinking it. Everyone will be able to contribute to topics created, and I'm sure moderation will remain as it has been. With this in mind, non-lambs are not being cut out of the discussion, nor are non-premium members. As long as a general discussion thread of some form exists, non-premium members will be able to trigger conversation the same as they do today.Originally Posted by emancipationofmeme
Opening new topics really should be open to all posters. That’s just essential to most forums. Who would join a forum where they can’t even do something so basic that other forums will let them do? Premium features should be actually special features and not features that are normally standard sold back to users. If opening new threads is a special privilege that you have to pay for, people will just try getting around it anyway by posting off-topic in existing threads, non premium members PMing premium members to open up new threads for them, etc.
It sounds like a partial reason is for quality control, but I bet you would be surprised at how many people who display troll-like behavior or are consistently off-topic will pay the yearly fee so they can get more attention. It would make more sense to me if opening new topics is possible for everyone with over 100 or so posts (so they understand the rules at that point).

Wider UKMIX Community

And what about the other fan groups, won't they start to feel neglected/left out? UKmix has always insisted that this is not a Mariah forum nor a fan page for any individual artist...but now they're going to create a mini Mariah forum??Originally Posted by MCPH
MariahMix will drive out fans of other artists, when the opposite should be focussed on.

If anything, this will help bolster participation from non-lambs. Might help to attract new lambs to the site, which is always good.
Sounds good to me, they get my $12.Originally Posted by beredy
MariahMix was such a divisive topic. There didn't seem to be a consensus about it when we talked but the site owners did lean towards having it so I guess they're just gonna go and run with it. There were certaintly great arguments both pro and contra (and neither one was against Mariah, but as a concept as whole just so you know there wasn't any shadenbeing thrown).
Potential Topic Areas

I think it is a step forward. Now nobody can open topics about Mariah as everything is posted in this thread. When you have a busy week, you have to read loads of pages and don't know where you have to start.
With more topics on Mariah you can easily find the ones you are really interested in.Originally Posted by emancipationofmeme
The people surveyed have probably been using the site for years and are dedicated enough to know they’ll stick around for 1 year or more after paying for premium. But newer less dedicated users like me have niche topics in mind too that they will want to open threads on. I would love threads just specifically on Mariah’s musical influences, songs MC has sampled, her singing technique, etc.Originally Posted by stevyy
This thread is the fastest on the internet in terms of Mariah news...
On MariahMix we should keep the amount of threads small...
like:
.- Charts Thread
.- News Thread
.- Mariah Gifs / Pictures Thread
.- Caution Thread
.- General Thread
.- Polling Thread
.- Survivors / Games Thread

The news thread with just articles/information and no "free chat" would be a god send with how fast the general thread moves.
Alternative Options
Spoiler!Originally Posted by MAM
There is potential for this to be good though and I do hope that it works out for everyone. I can't help but think that a better way of approaching this would be to monetise the forum through a sensible level of advertisements with the option of paying to remove these and then maybe a few more features. That seems like a fairer system for all.Originally Posted by MCPH

I don't think a donation option would work. How often would you donate and how much?Originally Posted by emancipationofmeme
Very excited about the idea of MariahMix but please look harder at other big successful forums and how they operate. Mcph is right that FOMM is dead for a reason. A big reason why this thread works now is because even though it’s cramped it is consistently active, so you know your post will be read and responded to and there’s always something new to read. If all of the current posts are spread across 30+ threads then the forum will start to feel dead. For MariahMix to feel alive as a forum it needs to grow.

I think the intentions are good, but it’s a little silly to pay $12 for a second Mariah Carey thread.

Good job on the update, the Mariah thread had been overstretched for years and a seperate forum is just what was needed bringing it back to the old days.
Agree this thread should absolutely stay, I imagined it would just be a 'general discussion' but maybe news, chart updates etc. though any big news will want it's own thread.whist I agree to keep this thread, I disagree about having 1 thread for everything.
Last December this thread became a mess with several simultaneous discussions!
There was posts about AIWFCIY chart updates, games for ranking Caution tracks, news about ANN remix, videos from Christmas concerts, album reviews for caution......
Surely, each of these topics deserved it's own thread.
it's difficult reading through 20+ NEW pages, filtering information to find updates that you seek.Ok. Sooooo some feedback for the moderators. Idk if it’s just me but, it’s hard to find mariahmix starting from google. Also it takes quite some clicks to get this page in the acceptable layout. It’s not that mobile friendly.
i feel like mariahmix needs a banter on the front page. If the community stays this hidden, I feel like it’s going to die soon.
Congratz on the migration though!
I agree it's difficult to find "MariahMix"
when UKMIX re-opened, I naturally went to General Artists discussion to find the Mariah thread, which did not exist.
only after Wayne told me where it was located, did I find it.
I feel there needs to be a "sticky" in general artists discussion to re-direct people to this new section.
this announcement doesn't need to be permanent, just a couple weeks so that regular lambs can update their bookmarks
I understand and definitely agree that an overall change on the site was long overdue, but wow.... if you wanted to basically kill this thread’s crazy activity, mission accomplished. Welp!
Dedicating an entire forum to Mariah and by extension separating it into sub-topics (A No No remix, Mariah tours, Mariah gallery etc.) minimized the activity even more. I’d rather not MariahMix and have this thread moved back to the General Artists Discussion section tbh. Having one long thread was much more convenient for me.
Just my opinion. If that doesn’t happen eventually, and I’d get that too, no biggie.I agree. In theory, Mariahmix sounded like a good idea. But I feel it has definitely taken from what made Mariah’s thread on UKmix so popular. Yes there might be multiple discussions going on that were overlapping but it was so handy to be able to follow just one thread with all the updates, reactions, discussion all confined to the one place.
I do appreciate the moderator’s efforts to recognize the popularity of the Mariah thread on UKmix by giving Mariah a separate place on UKmix. However, recent posts I’ve seen by some moderators, who aren’t Mariah fans, made me question if the concept of Mariahmix was simply to push Mariah’s fans off the main forum. I hope that isn’t the case.
