One of my favourite parts of vBulletin is the User Reputation System - it provides the functionality for community posters to say "thank you" or provide some positive feedback for a post they agree with, or a game they've hosted, or a topic they've created that stimulates discussion (whatever you like, really). We've disabled the option for leaving negative feedback, as that isn't what we believe the system should be used for.

    How does it work?

Each user will have a specific reputation power - that number is determined by:

    * Registration Date: 1 point (for every 365 days you've been registered, your reputation power increases by 1 point).
    * Post Count: 1 point (for every 1,000 posts, your reputation power increases by 1 point).
    * Reputation Point count: 1 point (for every 250 reputation points you receive, your reputation power increases by 1 point).
    * Referral: 250 points (for every referral - where the newly registered user confirms you as their referrer - you'll be awarded 250 reputation points).

You can award reputation points up to 25 times per day, and you must award reputation to at least 2 more different posters before you can award reputation to the same person (e.g. you can't award reputation to the same person twice in a row - you would have to issue to two other posters before you go back to that poster and hit them with more reputation).

    What about new users?

Every new user (and in this case, existing also - post transfer, everyone starts off on a level playing field) will automatically be awarded 100 reputation points by registering and they will be able to issue reputation points themselves once they've made 25 posts.

How do I know when I've been awarded reputation?

You'll know your reputation is increasing by the little green bars above your avatar - the longer that gets, the more reputation you're being awarded. If you want to see why you've been awarded the reputation or for which post/topic, then you can do so by clicking your Settings menu and scrolling down - you should see displayed on your User CP your reputation power, your most recent awarded reputation and your most recent reputation that you've awarded other users. You can see an example here:

    How do I award reputation?

There should be a little star icon on the bottom of each post, you click this to award reputation. You can see what you should click here:

Once you've clicked that, the following dialog box should appear:

    What are the reputation levels?

We're a music forum, so we'll keep the music theme! At the moment, they are as follows:

If you have any suggestions around what to change them to, please let us know! If you have any queries, post them in here - otherwise, get awarding! Remember to keep it cute.

Great! But while reading this I've had "my reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me" as a soundtrack

I like the Gold/(Multi)Platinum/Diamond certs. And I'm glad those are automatic and not RIAA way. Also maybe just as an incentive to actually be a contributing member of the forum and make these something you want, maybe there should be some kind of an award for Top 5 point gainers every year? Like awarded premium membership?

I think this was a great idea! For a start it will stop all those quote posts that people use to do with nothing added to them. Well explained Wayne too. Already showed my appreciation to several members too. You might want to make it sticky on all forums, so everyone knows what the star at the bottom left is for. If you haven't already done so!!

The "Join Date" only states the month. Anniversaries could be a problem.

The system holds the information centrally so wouldn't be any impact, but I've modified the postbit to show full date anyway.

I like this function, almost like a "like button".

So we can’t see who has awarded us? I have no usernames in my ‘received’ section... just the thread, date and time.

Hmm. I'm only seeing the three buttons:

    Reply / Quote / Multi-quote

Probably my skin. Seems like there are several questions about the mobile version and Im sure everything will be sorted soon

Under the avatar on the left bottom corner, there's a little star that is the button for awarding.

You can if you go into your profile and click the reputations tab.

I don’t think it’s working properly on my profile because nobody has given me any points

Perhaps you need reputation before you can see it...

    By design I'm afraid.

Everyone will be able to see reputation they've received (providing they've received it) but only Premium Users will be able to see the name of the poster that left them their ratings and have access to an extra reputation tab on the user CP.

I can see reputation that I have given but not that I have received. But then, as Thriller said, I don't think I have received any.

Yes, that's correct - but you can't see the name of the poster who left you the rating can you, just the content of the award?

Of the ones I sent I can see Date, Who I sent and the comment I made

Maybe some other can confirm what they can see of the reputation received!

367 points from only two reps? Seems odd.
