    JONI MITCHELL

Roberta Joan "Joni" Mitchell is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Drawing from folk, pop, rock, and jazz, Mitchell's songs often reflect social and environmental ideals as well as her feelings about romance, confusion, disillusionment, and joy. She has received many accolades, including nine Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Mitchell is the sole producer credited on most of her albums, including all her work in the 1970s. With roots in visual art, Mitchell has designed most of her own album covers. She describes herself as a "painter derailed by circumstance".

This legendary lady hasn't had an artist survivor yet, so it's time to chage that. This survivor will feature all of her official singles, as well as some of her classics that were never singles, but belong to her best known songs. Also, I added the title track of her last album because it wouldn't have a representative.

The songs that will be featured are:

    Night in the City
    Chelsea Morning
    Big Yellow Taxi
    Woodstock
    The Circle Game
    Carey
    California
You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio
Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire
    Raised on Robbery
    Help Me
    Free Man in Paris
In France They Kiss on Main Street
    Coyote
    Off Night Backstreet
    Jericho
The Dry Cleaner from Des Moines
Why Do Fools Fall in Love
    (You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care
    Chinese Café/Unchained Melody
    Good Friends
    Shiny Toys
    My Secret Place
    Snakes and Ladders
    Cool Water
    Night Ride Home
    Come in from the Cold
    How Do You Stop
    Sex Kills
    Sunny Sunday
    The Crazy Cries of Love
    Both Sides, Now
    Shine

You can nominate up to three additional songs

Not ready for a survivor for someone like Joni, have so many more songs to absorb. In that sense I'm glad you've limited it to these songs but on the other hand it's a disservice to Joni.

Some more unknown, even left field choices.

    Don't Interrupt the Sorrow
    Blue Motel Room
God Must Be a Boogie Man
My tits are made of silicone, just like the Earth and sea...

I can’t believe I forgot to put A Case of You in the list! It’s her biggest classic.

@heppolo if you want, you can add another song instead because Case will be in the survivor automatically

Relatively easy one to add to for me - four omissions from my personal favourites - if someone else was to add "For Free" that would be great.

    Morning Morgantown
    Ladies of the Canyon
    River

I'll try and get involved in this survivor. However, I only know "Ladies of the Canyon" and "Blue" eras.

I will add For Free for you because I was supposed to automatically put River in the list too. My bad!

    - The Sire of Sorrow (Job's Sad Song)
“A sure way to lose happiness, I found, is to want it at the expense of everything else.” - Bette Davis

Cool - I did think "River" was a rather glaring omission rather than a personal favourite.

In order to make groups of six, I'll add 5 more songs to make the total number 54 + The Boho Dance which can also be considered a classic and will be tacked onto the last group cause I just cannot choose only 5

    Amelia
    Otis and Marlena
    Taming the Tiger
    Turbulent Indigo
    Cactus Tree
    The Boho Dance

I adore Cherokee Louise and The Magdalene Laundries, but they've already won some Joni survivors before and I'd rather some new songs get a shot.

    R1 starts soon

1 God Must Be a Boogie Man - I have grown to love this left-field aspect of her discography, delicious, needs multiple listens.
    2 Sex Kills
    3 All I Want
4 Snakes and Ladders - Not heard this one before, it's good!
    5 Carey
    6 A Case of You

    Bit "Blue" heavy this batch.
My tits are made of silicone, just like the Earth and sea...

    .
The Diana Ross cover really has to come last on principle. Didn't know any of the other songs, but "Free Man In Paris" was really rather commercial and uninteresting by her standards IMHO

    Interesting
Joni Mitchell released a live version of the song as a single in 1980 that reached #102 on the Billboard pop chart.
Diana Ross released a cover version on the RCA label in 1981
