I've never been involved in a long-distance relationship, but my boyfriend's leaving the state for a few months this spring/summer. It's going to be - I dunno...different. I'm so accustomed to seeing him every single day.

I don't know if I'd be able to handle being in a relationship with someone who is living away from me for a lengthy period of time; I'm way too needy

Once when I was in 6th grade, I had a girlfriend, and everything was all happy & nice, but by the end of the year, I found out I was moving. Well, we would still talk to eachother like everyday on the phone and everything, but I got this letter in the mail, and it was from her, and, to make a long letter short, she simply told me that long distant relationships never work out. That just broke my heart. I still have that letter too. I've been thinking about calling her (God knows if she still has that number though)

Hmm. Well, I guess i'm kinda in a long distance relationship.
Its not like Jase lives on the other side of the world, but its hard to get to, so we don't see eachother as often as we'd like to!

Long distance relationships definitely can work.

I'm a sucker for love, and reach out for it in any way shape or form, and I believe in that one true person for everybody, but I dunno if I could be in one. Asked me 2 years ago and I would have been likfe "deffinately" but now, I dunno. I want someone I can hold, someone I can fall asleep in his arms and wake up with in the morning, not wake uip to the bloody phone ringing and him hollering down the other line "Can't talk long, it's long diistance", I don't want that, and I honestly don't think I could deal with that, so for me, it's a no. But if it works for someone else, good for ya, but for me, no.

Well I just got involved in one. It's not long distance yet, but very soon it will be...

I guess if you really want to be with that person it's something you have to face and overcome. However far apart you are, if you really want to be together, then you will be together. There's phone/fax/email/MSN to keep in contact, so it's not as if we're gonna be totally removed from each others lives. And we'll make the effort to try and see each other once a month or so... but I am realistic too, I know it's gonna be hard and that there's a pretty high chance that we'll drift apart. It's hard because you don't get any physical contact (besides sex ) so you kinda lose the intimacy of the relationship.. but I hope we're gonna make it work.

    It's worth a shot right?
Can't make decisions, I could use some more distractions today..

I'm sure some people can and have done the long distance thing before, but I sure as hell could not.

Pretty much in the same boat as martoonboy - when I'm going out with a girl, I wanna be able to physically be with her, know what I mean? Physical closeness is a big part of relationships for me.

No. Because as well as having to struggle with not seeing each other as much as you like, there's the tough issue of trust to deal with too.

Trust I think is the biggest issue in a long distance relationship.
Don't explain yourself 'cos talk is cheap,
There's more important things than hearing you speak.

Long Distance relationships can work, you just kinda have to be more leniant and trusting than normal..

I'm in one now, and I'll soon be close to him once I move to the US so it's all good
is the shade of the night
    the piercing sounds you make
    soaring higher, higher now
and once left in my wake
your memory is nothing but the scars on me.

I can definitely sit on the "yes" bench for long distance relationships cause I'm proof it works.

I've been going out with my boyfriend now for coming up to 4 months (we met for the first time 5 months ago) and things couldn't be better.

And nope we don't get to see each other every day but we do speak to each other for hours a day, by phone and MSN, and we do make the effort to see each other every couple of weeks, even if it's only for a couple of days.

The longest we've spent together was from New years eve until Jan 5th, and that's another plus point for me, if you're in a "normal" relationship then you'll perhaps see your partner for a few hours a day, in my relationship when I see Ben I'm with him for 24 hours a day for however many days and it makes you feel quite committed.

It makes the time you spend together more special, and it gives you something to look forward to when you know you're going to be together again in 2 weeks time.

Like someone said there is a trust issue, but that's mostly my fault, I can be pretty jealous and it's difficult not being able to keep an eye on him, but deep down I know that there's no way he would go with anybody else.

We're going on our first holiday on March 15th for a week at Centre Parcs and I can't wait!

So yep, if the person you're meant to be with lives 3 hours on the train away, then that's just something you have to work around

To sum all that up, it makes you appreciate your relationship much more I think
