    Hello, everybody, does anyone who got the detail charts of Brazil or certifications? I browsed the web site of Madonna to get that...

    Madonna in Brazil
    Compiled info about Madonna's chart performance in Brazil
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Albums

    Basic facts:
    All of Madonna's 15 albums have reached the top 10, "GHV2" being her 9th album to hit No.1. Her longest-running No.1 is "Something to remember", which spent 7 weeks atop the charts in late 95/early 96, and her lowest-peaking album is "You can dance", which peaked at No.8 in 1988.

    Certifications:
    Madonna has had every one of her records certified at least Gold in Brazil. Her best selling record remains "True blue", her only effort to outsell the 1 million copies mark. Close behind are "The immaculate collection" with 960.000 copies and "Ray of light", with 800.000 units sold. Here's a rundown of every certification for her albums:

    Madonna - Platinum
    Like a virgin - 2 Platinum
    True Blue - Diamond
    Who's that girl? - Gold
    You can dance - Gold
    Like a Prayer - 3 Platinum
    I'm breathless - Gold
    The Immaculate collection - 3 Platinum
    Erotica - Platinum
    Bedtime stories - Platinum
    Something to remember - 2 Platinum
    Evita - Gold
    Ray of light - 3 Platinum
    Music - 2 Platinum (so far)
    GHV2 -

    In Brazil, Gold certifications stand for 100.00 copies shipped, while Platinum stands for 250.000 copies. Diamond albums are those that exceed 1 million units sold. Most of her albums have sold more than their certication says. For example, "Like a prayer" has sold 750.000 units, and "The immaculate collection" has sold 960.000 units, but both stand at 3 Platinum because "The immaculate collection" needs to hit past the 1 million mark before its certification is updated. Likewise, most of her records are stuck in between certifications.

    Singles
    Basic facts:
    Madonna is the most successful international female artist in the country. She's had several No.1s to her account since her first one, "Like a virgin" in 1985. Her most recent one was "Don't tell me", while her longest-running is "Frozen", which holds the record 7-week run at No.1 under its belt. No other international single has spent so much time at No.1.

    * big thanks to this huge fan from Brasil

    Web site: http://www.mariah-charts.com/chartdata/Brasil.htm

    From the above, it seems like Brazil is another big market in the world that we missed all times, we always pay attention in UK, Germany, France, etc.
    Does anyone who knows or got in hand the charts or sales certification in Brazil, to tell were "Madonna" & "Mariah Carey"'s trustworthy or reliable? And if possible, please post the charts in artists index and all sales certifications, please, thanks.

    I have chart positions for Madonna's albuns (with certification and sales) and singles. My album charts match yours:

    Madonna - #6 :: 400.000 :: 1x Platinum
    Like A Virgin - #1(2w) :: 620.000 :: 2x Platinum
    True Blue - #1(4w) :: 1 million :: Diamond
    Who's That Girl - #5 :: 120.000 :: Gold
    You Can Dance - #8 :: 100.000 :: Gold
    I'm Breathless - #3 :: 140.000 :: Gold
    The Immaculate Collection - #1(5w) :: 960.000 :: 3x Platinum
    Erotica - #1(2w) :: 250.000 :: 1x Platinum
    Bedtime Stories - #2(4w) :: 280.000 :: 1x Platinum
    Something To Remember - #1(7w) :: 500.000? :: 2x Platinum
    Evita - #7 :: 130.000 :: Gold
    Ray Of Light - #1(6w) :: 860.000 :: 3x Platinum
    Music - #1(4w) :: 550.000 :: 2x Platinum
    GHV2 - #1(2w) :: 300.000 :: 1x Platinum
    American Life - #1(1w) :: 285.000 :; 1x Platinum

    Now, my Singles Chart are a bit different from yours. You probably took yours from the Pop Top 100 Chart, where Madonna's song usually hit the Top 10. The following charts are the official ones. Madonna had 10 #1 hits in it:

    Like A Virgin - #1(3w)
    Material Girl - #1(1w)
    Crazy For You - #1(1w)
    Papa Don't Preach - #1(1w)
    Who's That Girl - #1(1w)
    Like A Prayer - #1(2w)
    Vogue - #1(4w)
    Justify My Love - #1(2w)
    Take A Bow - #1(6w) >> #1 in Year-End Chart
    Music - #1(6w)

    "Frozen" peaked at #6, and "Don't Tell Me" only reached #5. It's extremely hard for a foreign artist to reach #1 in a country full of local artists. This week's chart Hoobastank reached #1, the first international to do so since Outkast's "Hey Ya" few months ago. Even reach the Top 10 is hard, and only Black Eyed Peas, D12 and The Calling are the foreign in this week's Top 10.

    Madonna's latest singles haven't charted very well in Brazil. "American Life" reached #6, "Hollywood" pekaed at #21, "Me Against The Music" also reached #6 and "Love Profusion" didn't go further than #40 :evil:

    I don't have Mariah Carey's chart data, I'm sorry :(
    I hope that's what you needed...
    Even the devil wouldn't recognize you.

    Citruz, just one correction. Before American Life left the top 40 albums chart, it was certified 2X Platinum in Brazil(250,000 copies certified).

    Yes, I forgot! You guys are right, nowadays it's twice as easy to be certified platinum, as 1x Platinum fell from 250.000 to 125.000, which means that "American Life" is 2x Platinum.

    Well, this is all I have of Janet Jackson:

    Album Top 50
    "Damita Jo" - peak #36 [3 weeks]

    Singles Top 100
    "Someone To Call My Love" - peak #68 [11 weeks]
    "All For You" - peak #8 [23 weeks]
    Any single from "Damita Jo" has charted yet!

    Next, Mariah Carey:
    "I Know What You Want" - peak #14 [21 weeks]
    "Boy (I Need You)" - peak #71 [4 weeks]
    "Through The Rain" - peak #7 [14 weeks]
    "Never Too Far" - peak #10 [13 weeks]
    "Loverboy" - peak #38 [12 weeks]
    "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)" - peak #27 [12 weeks]
    "Thanks God I Found You" - peak #15 [18 weeks]
    "Heartbraker" - peak #23 [28 weeks]
    "Against All Odds" - peak #9 [35 weeks]

    Celine Dion
    "I Drove All Night" - peak #40 [?]
    "A New Day Has Come" - peak #18 [18 weeks]
    "I'm Alive" - peak #73 [6 weeks]

    I couldn't find any Whitney Houston song in the period from 1999-2004

    As you can see, Brazilian charts are extremely disorganized. Recently I started to store the weekly charts in case anyone needs them in the future, but they started decades ago and the first site to release them was created in 1998 :(

    I hope that helps!

    I, as a chart freak and live in Brasil, have some info too

    The Charts in Brasil are really complicated... since 1998 we have the Hot 100 Brasil (www.hot100brasil.com) that compiles the most-played songs in 275 radio stations... It would be like our "official chart", and also compile the best selling albums.
    Besides that, it had the Singles Chart on Billboard Latin. That chart was weekly until 2001, that, it became monthly and most times it was very different from the Hot 100 Brasil chart.

    About sales, www.abpd.org have some info, its like our RIAA

    Anyway, I compiled the info that I got from Billboard Latin, ABPD and some record companies that published things in respected magazines in Brasil... but most of the data is from Hot 100 Brasil... I have here the ANNUAL CHART for 2002 and 2003, that shows the peaks of ALL songs that charted in those years... if someone wants it, I can send it! And if anyone has the annual chart for 2001, 2000 or any other year, it would be very helpfull =)

    For the certifications, until Dec. 2000, all certs. were GOLD 100k and PLATINUM 250k. From Jan. 2001 on, the certification for foreign artists became GOLD 50K PLAT. 125k, Domestic artists stood the same. Now, since jan. 2004, ALL certs. are GOLD 50k PLAT. 125k. We don't have commercial singles here. We had some, but years back... in the 90's, for Mariah Carey we had only the singles for the "Music box" and "Daydream" album and for Madonna, I remember we had the singles for Ray of light, Dont cry for me Argentina, Music (was GOLD) and Don't tell me... but they never sold well, only MUSIC that sold 100k... but the rest, are very hard to find!

    Any questions or more info, I will be glad to help ya guys

    I couldn't find any Whitney Houston song in the period from 1999-2004
    Hello, CitruZ, could you please post the Hot 100 Brasil 1999-2004 annual singles chart positions, please, Thanks.

    AND, does anyone who've got the Hot 100 Brasil 1998 annual singles chart positions, your assistance is appreciated.

    Web site: http://www.hot100brasil.com/

    AutomaticBR, about your sales info web site, www.abpd.org, I couldn't read any sales info, it's all about medicine, called "American Board of Pediatric Dentistry"???

    AND, you mention "Billboard Latin" represented all Brazil charts before Hot 100 Brasil? Then I knew Enrique Iglesias was huge in Billboard Latin, then how much album did he sold, or his father Julio Iglesias, who sold 200 million albums? Or Gloria Estefan?

    AND, your Madonna singles chart, what is the name of organisation? Or ever published a Brazil chart book? Do you have all singles chart like Madonna's in all artist index, could you post them all? Your assistance is appreciated.

    COuld you post the 2002 annual, please, Thanks. Or, do you have all albums certification? Plesase post them all.

    Is Brazil = Mexico, I remember years ago "Billboard" stated "The Bodyguard" sold 500,000 in Mexico, what about Brazil, or do you have the Top best-selling albums in Brazil?

    JAYSPICE >>>

    Unfortunatelly, I don't have chart runs =( I only begun to look at the Brasilian charts in 2001, when I got internet, but I didn't saved them... but now that I have the annual charts for 2001, 2002 and 2003, I can see the peaks of the songs in those years...

    About the albums peaks, actually, we never had an official album chart... Billboard Latin only published singles charts, and Hot100Brasil publish the Album charts only since 1998... before that, it's hard to find peak positions... back then, it had a chart, but I dont remember the name, but it was like the official one :-? Like I said, everything ius very confusing over here!

    I remember that I saw something that said that SPICE was #1, SPICEWORLD #2 and Emma's album #2... Reason I saw when it was #15, Victoria I dont remember of seeing in the Top 40, Scream if you wanna go faster too!

    For the albums that you asked, I dont have the peaks =/ but anyway, "The Best of me" I barelly saw in sotres here, "On a day like today" too, so probably they didnt even gone GOLD... but I know that MTV UNPLUGGED sold very well, its very popular here

    HOT didnt got even gold, so, it sold less than 50k. Bridget Jone's Soundtrack was a good seller to, I remember it was GOLD (50k). Bend it like Beckham didnt sold nothing I think lol it never entered the charts and you never see the album in stores, even in the internet !!

    Northern star I dunno... as the singles for the album did really well, and the videos were played 24/7 at MTV, all of them! So it must have sold some...

    RULLENCE >>>

    I really dont remember of seeing STRIPPED on the charts, the singles were poorly here! The only song that got a substantial airplay was BEAUTIFUL, cuz it was on the soundtrack of a soup-opera (here, they are very popular... are like the american series, like Friends, understand? everybody sees it! its traditional, and the soundtracks always seels huge! Most of the soundtracks for the soup-opera of 9 o'clock - the most popular - sold more than a million, some more than 2 million! in GLOBO, that is one of the biggest TV companies of the world, they have a soup-opera ate 6, 7 and 9, each of these have 2 soundtracks, one with national artists and other with foreign artists)

    NELSON >>>

    Sorry, I told you the wrong link =( the correct is www.abpd.org.br but is in portuguese, I found there the certs. for 2002, I will post here later cuz the site is a big mess... it seems everything is a mess here! lol

    I contacted ABPD to get more certifications, and they told me that the website is being reworked and it will have a section to look for certifications, like RIAA... anyway, i'm patiently waiting

    Like I said, until 2001 we had a weekly singles chart on Billboard Latin, and since 1998 we have hot100brasil.com. So, from 1998-2001 we had the 2 charts... and most of the time, they were very different! Like, on Billboard Latin, Mariah's AGAINST ALL ODDS were #1 for 4 weeks, but in Hot100Brasil, it was only #10!
    Enrique Iglesias and Julio were good sellers in Brasi, especially Julio... Enrique did very good with the album "Enrique" from 1998, most of the success is bcuz the duet he made with Sandy & Junior, 2 teenage brother (a female and a male lol)... S&J is huge over here, they sold more than 13.5 million copies with only 14 releases! the last one got 3x Platinum (750.000) and the international release from 2002 sold more than a million! they toured europe and USA to promote it, but they didnt succeded well... that album contains songs in english, spanish and french! Oh, and she idolizes Mariah & Celine

    The Madonna charts I got at www.madonnaonline.com.br that is her official website here, with info supplied from Warner, and some at www.hot100brasil.com

    I Dunno how to post the Annual chart 2002 cuz I dont have the link anymore=( but I can send it by e-mail to ya!

    The Top 10 albums from 2000 and 2001 are all by Domestic acts, do you guys want it???

    AND, you mention "Billboard Latin" represented all Brazil charts before Hot 100 Brasil? Then I knew Enrique Iglesias was huge in Billboard Latin, then how much album did he sold, or his father Julio Iglesias, who sold 200 million albums? Or Gloria Estefan?

    I found the certifications for 2002 in ABPD!

    I forgot to add another coment... ABPD is not very, hummmmm, how can I say... "trustable" for certifications! the record companies sends tons of copies rto the stores, just to get a high certifications, and then, when the stores doesnt sell the albums, they send it back to the record companies... the president of "TRAMA", an independent record company here in Brasil, said that great companies like Sony use to BURN cd's that they have a huge amount back, like Roberto Carlos (DIAMOND before the release, but then, just 550K were sold)... so, atleast for domestic acts, its not that good, and for international acts, the certifications seems a little bit too low!
    It was published even on Billboard (that gets info with ALMF - that unfortunatelly doesnt have a website) that DIDO'S NO ANGEL sold 1 million here! I do believe it sold that, "Thank you" and "My lovers gone" were ultra-mega hits! but now, on ABPD, says it has gone platinum in 2002 for 125k, very strange!

    ALMF gets info from record companies... every six months, ALL record companies have to send to them a note saying EXACTLY how many copies the stores bought for EVERY ALBUM, and those info are published on Latin Billboard, thats where we got info for Mariah & Madonna! I have some info from ALMF that I publish later, together with some year-end charts of albuns and singles by the same charts

    Well, for now, the certifications for international acts in 2002:

    Of course we want, you are welcome to do that, your post is much appreciate, since I wanted to study Brazil music industry & sales figures. And you can post as much as you have on your hand.

    As you mentioned, there's sales info published in Billboard magazine in "Latin" part? I go to check it, thanks.

    Do you know how much "The Bodygard" sold?

    And is Brazil same as Mexico or cover Mexico?

    Nelson: I don't have the charts since 1999, those informations I got from websites spread around the world, especially fan websites. Here, all links to Brazilian charts:

    http://www.hot100brasil.com :: The official single (airplay), album, dance and DVD charts

    http://www.radiobrasil.com.br :: Here there are Pop/Rock charts, Alternative charts, AC charts and a chart only with brazilian songs. I actually think that the Pop/Rock chart is more realistic as I don't listen a lot to brazilian music :-?

    http://top40-charts.com/chart.php?cid=8 :: Here they have charts from Hot 100 Brasil since 30/06/2001. The only problem is that they only have the Top 20 :(

    2001 Annual Charts (Hot 100 Brasil) :: http://web.archive.org/web/200303010349 ... 01pt1.html
    2002 Annual Charts (Hot 100 Brasil) :: http://www.hot100brasil.com/annual2002pt1.html
    2003 Annual Charts (Hot 100 Brasil) ::
    http://www.hot100brasil.com/annual2003pt1.html

    These are all...
    I think the Brazilian charts are getting better week by week, and more foreign songs are coming. I really got surprised when saw "Super Duper Love" debut at #28 in the charts, its video it's actually making a relative success in Brazilian MTV. Talking about MTV, just for curiosity here's last week's MTV Top 20 Videos (I'm not sure but I think Linkin Park reached #1 this week...):

    1 - Felipe Dylon - Mais Perto De Mim (closer To Me)
    2 - Beyonce - Naughty Girl
    3 - Linkin Park - From The Inside
    4 - Outkast - Roses
    5 - Charlie Brown Junior - Samba Makossa
    6 - Nightwish - Nemo
    7 - Britney Spears - Everytime
    8 - Cpm22 - Ontem
    9 - Rouge - Blá Blá Blá
    10 - Jay Vaquer - Pode Agradecer
    11 - Seether And Amy Lee - Broken
    12 - Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up
    13 - Avril Lavigne - Don't Tell Me
    14 - Ira! - O Girassol
    15 - Alanis Morissette - Everything
    16 - Detonautas Roque Clube - O Dia Que Não Terminou
    17 - Incubus - Talk Show On Mute
    18 - Emma Bunton - Maybe (yet )
    19 - Sepultura - Mindwar
    20 - Alma D Jem - João
    Even the devil wouldn't recognize you.

    Nelson, I know that some numbers of sales in latin countries are published in the Billboard Latin Magazine... it seems that it comes with the normal Billboard Magazine in some cities with a large latin community.
    Unfortunatelly, I dunno the sales for "The Bodyguard" or any other Whitney Houston album before "Love, Whitney" (LW was GOLD, Just Whitney too)
    Sorry but I didn't understand your message... what you mean with "is Brasil same as Mexico or cover Mexico"? do you mean in the musical rhythmns? if it's this, certainly, its not!
    Brasil is different from the other latin countries, it doesnt have that kind of "Latin Music" like, salsa, merengue, this types, understand?

    About the Hot100Brasil charts, many people think it's kinda fake, but I dont think that!
    People don't know how big is Brasil! Our country haves sooooooo many cultures, all mixed up, and many musical tastes, what plays in the North, doesnt plays in the South (were I live), what plays in the South, doesnt play in Southeast, and things of that nature... the most played songs in Brasil doesnt reflects the most played songs in my city! here, for example, "Boy (I Need you)" played A LOT, but almost ANY Mariah fan heard the song on the radio in the rest of the country

    Wish we had something like Billboard

    Oh my god, É o Tchan it's in almost all year's TOp 10

    Well, they are some sort of samba/pagode group that has released like a 100 songs. Anyway, although some of their songs are really catchy, I think they sell so much thanks to their sexy dancers :x

    LostAvenger --> I don't think these charts are official... they aren't updated since 2001
    Even the devil wouldn't recognize you.

    These must be the charts from Billboard Latin then!(Which haven't updated since 2001).

    I dont have the sufficient info to tell ya that, but probably, if it's not the #1, it's very near!

    LostAvenger, youre gith, that's the charts I was talking about =)

    Here it goes the Top 10 from 2003, according to ALMF (this list was published in many magazines, including Billboard and the biggest diary of Brasil - O DIÁRIO DE SÃO PAULO)

    1 - Kid Abelha - Acústico MTV (MTV Unplugged) - 690.000
    2 - Tribalistas - Tribaslistas - 580.000 (this trio formed by Arnaldo Antunes, Carlinho Brown and Marisa Monte - one of the most famous singers of Brasil, did very well in Europe, going GOLD in Italy and 3x PLATINUM in Portugal, among others)
    3 - Roberto Carlos - Pra sempre (Forever) - 550.000 (this was the one I said that in the first week was DIAMOND)
    4 - Linkin Park - Meteora - 450.000
    5 - Maria Rita - Maria Rita - 420.000 (it's already DIAMOND for 1 million shipped, it sold a lot more than 420k, I bought mine this week... is absolutely AMAZING! you guys should download some songs... she has been nominated for 4 latin grammys this year... daughter of Elis Regina, maybe, the biggest singer in Brasil in history)
    6 - Soundtrack - Mulheres apaixonadas (Women in love - the soundtrack for one of those "soup-operas" I said... it was a double album, so, if you count as 2, it has sold 780k... and the soup-opera was one of the bests I've ever saw! do you have any idea what its like 50 million people seeings the same thing in a country with 170 million people? lol) 390.000
    7 - Pitty - Admirável chip novo (Admirable new chip - Let's say she's an Avril Lavigne's clone lol but worst!) 350.000
    8 - Soundtrack - Malhação (Here's another soup-opera soundtrack, but this one's has been during more than 10 years! it shows the life of adolescents in a school, very nice!) 345.000
    9 - Charlie Brown - Acústico MTV (another MTV Unplugged... everybody goes "Unplugged" here and these albums are amost always they're best sellers) 320.000
    10 - Avril Lavigne - Let's go - 315.000

    #1 of 2002: Roberto Carlos - Acústico MTV 1.250.000
    #1 of 2001: Soundtrack - Laços de família (dunno the translation lol Family affairs? maybe... another soup´-opera soundtrack, very succesfull) 2.000.000
    #1 of 2000: Leonardo - Quero colo 2.250.000
    #1 of 1999: É o tchan - É o tchan na selva ("É o tchan" in the jungle - THANK GOD THEY'RE ALMOST OVER NOW! bunch of crap!) 1.750.000
    #1 of 1998: É o tchan no Havaí (...in Hawaii) 2.750.000
    #1 of 1997: Éo tchan no Brasil (...in Brasil) 3.500.000
    #1 of 1996: É o tchan - Na cabeça e na cintura 2.500.000

    I tried to translate most of the tiles, but some I dunno =/

    Oh, LostAvenger... do you have more link to charts of angelfire.com?? it would be nice to get some peaks for other artists!
