Me too I suppose, I only begun to like them heaps when Hitchin A Ride got released....& I've only got their greatest hits album (always wanted to buy Nimrod though, think I saw it on sale somewhere, might pick it up)...

    I'd highly recommend it.

Because I'm bored, I'm going to list all of Green Day's albums in order of preference.

    1. American Idiot
    2. Nimrod
    3. Insomniac
    4. Warning
    5. Dookie
    6. Kerplunk
    7. 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours
    8. Shenanigans
    9. International Superhits!

Don't think I've missed any, though it'll probably be obvious to anyone that's awake if I have.

It's not that I don't like the ones nearer the bottom - I love them all - but I don't tend to rate greatest hits or rarities compilations (erm, that'd be the last two) as much as studio albums.
This post is highly unlikely to be serious. Please treat it accordingly. Unless it's music-related, in which case I'm damn well right.

Yeh it does seem kinda weird how everyone is kinda getting on the bandwagon now and making a fuss, they have been around for ages after all.

I can say that I have been a fan of theirs for probably 10 years now so I guess that makes me somewhat worthy of an opinion on their best numbers. I still think their early stuff kicks arse, Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around are probably two of their best........althought American Idiot is bloody awesome!

Your Top 5 is the same as mine, except I'd have Nimrod at #1 as I don't have American idiot (yet)...I do like Dookie but it seems a lot of people hail it as their best album where as I like Warning and Nimrod more...as usual Green Day are the king's regardless...

I've checked out some of the songs from this new album & it ain't 1/2 bad....cept whenever I'm in a music store & I haven't been there to listen to new stuff in a while, I get impatient & "flick" through the tracks....today was no different!

Contemplated buying Nimrod in HMV for $15.99, but didn't....I'll have to do more CD listening when I'm not so impatient!

Nimrod is constantly on sale here for about 5.99! As are most Green Day albums.

I feel really bad posting here when I haven't gotten the album. But I will, money permitting.

That's about the same price champ In terms of $15.99, I reckon you could get it for a better price than that Shell - it has probably gone up in price since American Idiot has raised their commercial popularity with otherwise young pop fans going "Wow, this new Green Day band are so cool, their debut single American Idiot is wicked.....I'm a true fan!"

lol not a bad picture: an accurate picture. i was at the party where this pic was taken, and i almost couldn't believe BJ was BJ. i thought maybe it was some creepy old guy who kind of resembled him. but no, it was him.

anyway, who cares-- the new album rules, and the music is what's important.

I might be mistaken, but is the guy in the yellow shirt Walter Schreifels?

Not that anyone here will know who he is (apart from Steven, and he doesn't seem to be here... where you gone dude?)... never mind.

Well I got this now (only a week and a half after I said I would - which is pretty good going for me).

Indeed the rave reviews were justified. I think I'm going to like this better than the other Green Day album I own (Dookie) - they seem to have matured quite a bit musically.

    My favourites on here are
    - American Idiot
    - Holiday
    - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
    - She's A Rebel
    - Extraordinary Girl
    - Wake Me Up When September Ends

Not that the other tracks aren't good, but these stand out for me on first/second listen. All the potential singles (mentioned on the cover) seem great choices, despite not all being typiical Green Day type singles. I agree with an extent to John that a track like 'St Jimmy' would be a good example of a typical Green Day song to release.

Ok I realise I must be one of the only rock/Green Day fans on here who hadn't bought the album until now, but I did the other day....& it's great! The only letdowns for me are the whole Jesus Of Suburbia five part thingy, Holiday and (sorry Ste!) Extraordinary Girl, they're the only 2 things I'd prolly regularly skip on the CD...listened to it last night after work, there are prolly a few more I'd skip, but Wake Me Up When September Ends (if and when it gets released) will be in my chart at the end of the year....

I haven't listened to this album in ages! I think it's the whole over-ratedness of Boulevard Of Broken Dreams that has put me off, but I do love Holiday, and Wake Me Up When September Ends is going to be released in June, apparently.

It is a great album. There's not a single track on there I don't like. My personal favourite is 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'.

    I love the 'Holiday' video.

I can still remember borrowing my classmate's CD of this, being very cautious and all, since it was his favorite album.

12 years and this song is still relevant. One of their best.

The political statement theme of the album came so fluid and natural for the group, it's not as forced and self-indulgent as that of other "political" albums where artists' obviously want recognition and acclaim towards their brand (rather than championing the actual cause) more than anything else. Madonna's American Life could have been this album but she eventually got drowned in all her shock factor gimmicks as always.
