French Informations, Part III : Charts & Chart Runs.

    Links :

    Airplay Top 60 : http://www.disqueenfrance.com/classe...os/default.asp

    Compilation Top 40 (Compilations + Best Of) : http://www.disqueenfrance.com/classe...os/default.asp OR http://www.ifop.com/europe/banque/resulcompils.asp

    Mid Price Top 40 : http://www.disqueenfrance.com/classe...ce/default.asp

    Album Top 75 : http://www.disqueenfrance.com/classe...ms/default.asp
    Album Top 200 : http://www.ifop.com/europe/banque/resulalbums.asp

    What about old charts ?
All old charts are avalaible since 1st June of 1996 in the IFOP website.
Her one of them (the first) :
    http://www.ifop.com/europe/sondages/topalb/alb9622.stm

At the end of the link, you see "9622" who signify that it's the Top of the 22nd week of 1996. In this way, you can found the charts who interest you easily.

All number ones albums/singles since 1985 are here : http://www.infodisc.fr/N1CD_V80.php

And what about chart runs ?

This site give many of them (actually 380 chart runs for 1996-2005) : http://fanofmusic.free.fr/Site-Chart...oursAlbum1.htm
It contain chart runs, but certification, year end position and total sales estimate too.

    So, how many sold a #1 ? A #10 ? A #50 ?

    1 / Albums.
    Number 1 position :
Highest fisrt week (album) in History for a local artist : Johnny Hallyday with "A la vie, à la mort" who sold 305.634 copies in it's first week, the 09 November, 2002.

    Others...
Les Enfoirés - La Foire aux Enfoirés : 160.723 (22/02/2003)
    Francis Cabrel - Les Beaux Dégâts : 145.000 (22/05/2005).
    Mylène Farmer - Avant Que l'Ombre : 136.318 (09/04/2005).
    Celine Dion - Une Fille & 4 Types : 123.596 (09/04/2005).

Highest fisrt week (album) in History for a foreign artist : Michael Jackson with "Invincible" who sold over 166.000 copies in it's first week, the 03 November, 2001.

    Others...
U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb: 80.000 (27/11/2004)
    Madonna - American Life : 48.682 (26/04/2003).
    Muse - Absolution : 36.000 (27/09/2003).

But in a 'normal' week, sales of a #1 in France go from 20.000 to 40.000.

    A Top 5 ?
Since many weeks Moby, #2 in album charts, sold around 20.000 copies by week. The #3 sold around 15.000 and Mariah Carey in #4 sold 11.627copies 2 weeks ago.
It's a poor time for sales, they are a little higher in the rest of the year but stay between 10.000 and 30.000 copies sold by week for a Top 5.

    And...
    Top 5>10 = Between 5.000 and 15.000
    Top 11>20 = Between 4.000 and 10.000
    Top 21>50 = Between 2.000 and 8.000
    Top 51>100 = Between 1.500 and 4.000
    Top 101>200 = Between 700 and 2.000

    2 / Singles.
A #1 can sold more in France than in UK, 3 weeks ago Ilona (who is #1 since 6 weeks) sold 73.623 copies in a week (sales of others weeks are unknow).

Generally, all top 10 sold over 10.000 copies.

    A #20 = Around 5.000 copies.
    A #50 = Around 2.000 copies.
    A #100 = Around 300 copies.

Notes : They are officials year end charts but estimate sales with certifications, global sales, top 10 total sales, and chart runs. Sales are reliable.

If you have more of her stats, please tell me!

btw, this 445k figure for Rainbow, is official? I never tought it had passed 400k :-?

Sorry but "Mariah Carey" receive any certification. No one single/album of Mariah Carey receive certification before 94.
You have all his certifications here : http://www.chartsinfrance.net/chiffres-artiste-199.htm
Her first success in France are Music Box singles : Without You #9 of 1994, Hero #21 and Endloss Love #69 of 1994/#97 of 1995. Music Box hit #1 in album charts with 42 weeks in the top 10.

Concerning to 445.000 figure for Rainbow, it is not a "official" number but you can take it in account like one of them. Rainbow is charted #25 of 1999 and #67 of 2000. In Fan of Music website you can look year end charts with estimate sales, estimation do with official numbers give by SNEP (global sales, certifications etc..). You can have more confidence in those numbers that in certifications of SNEP website !
Only one example : Charmbracelet go Gold at the end of 2003, her sales are around 250.000, over 200k month and month before her certification at 100k...
All Mariah Carey albums chart runs since 1997 are here : http://fanofmusic.free.fr/Site-Chart...ursAlbum-M.htm

Thanks to you, whyme & Fedepeti to your congratulatons

If you want other informations, ask me for what you want know and if I have the answer, I will respond you without any doubt !

Álbum “Charmbracelet” #12 280.000 copies (Gold)
    Álbum “The Remixes” #60 -

I Didn't found the 2x Gold certification for "MTV Unplugged" at the SNEP website Also, it's weird that Universal France reported that her album was certified Gold a few weeks after the release date, and then the website shows the end of 2003, weird

Also, for her singles, I tought that maybe "I'll be there" was silve, cuz that one was #16, or "Vision of love" wich was #25.

Don't you think it's kinda too hight that "Emotions" sold 150k and "Mariah Carey" only 100k, since "Mariah Carey" had a better chart positions than "Emotions", her second album?

And one more thing (sorry to bother you ) do you have any idea of the sales of Jewel, Vanessa-Mae and The Cardigans in France? they didn't had much success I guess also, Björk's first 3 releases (Debut, Post and Telegram), I never found anything about them

I used to think myself is it too bother to say "thank you" in this thread, as it seems like a retards to your useful information. But I decided to write here, "Well done, and impressive work!" You have me well educated about France music sales. Remember one year ago, there's no topics about France music sales all whole the internet, and I lucky got helped from local france music fan, he sent me those Gold & Platinum certifications before 1994, and I was surprised, and done quickly the statistics for artists and already posted in "Chart Forum Refugees" and no one seemed to treated them as a "source" and said "fake information", and now I can find soul-mate here and also in "Chartsinfrance".

Hi, MJDangerous, seems like you know something about "Music Box", do you have chart run of "Music Box" and all other Mariah Carey's chart run before 1996?
And, if possible, post Whitney Houston's chart run, too.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't have charts of 1990-1996, only a few informations about 1994-1996 years concerning Celine albums (Celine don't sold many albums before 1994 in France) :

    Des Mots Qui sonnent #14
    Colours Of My Love #7
    Live A L'Olympia #17

Celine global discographie informations (note : official charts exist since 85 only) :

    - 243 weeks in the top 10 (since 1994)
    - 740 weeks in the charts (since 1994)
