Its really amazing.Hits of the world from the 60s and 70s is awesome specially considering that some countries listed there were deleted from Billboard later on..

But they printed "The Wall", so maybe it was Pink Floyd.

Great that Queen's First Ep charted at #10. The only country where I knew it had charted was UK (#17 in 1977), so this means that it did better in portugal than in any other country.

MJ.Do you have an estimation of how many copies a huge album could sell in Portugal between 1978 and 1980.

I am interested in Spirits Having Flown by the Bee Gees which spent more than 7 months in the top 10.

Besides do you have figures for Off the Wall and Bad in Portugal.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

It can't have been Pink Floyd considering that when Off The Wall was at #4 The Wall was charted too

I really don't know about OTW and Bad but the best selling albums of each year were selling 100k give or take at the time. Looking at how massive albums like Saturday Night Fever were, I wouldn't be surprised if a such album sold 150-200k back at the time.

                        Thanks MJ for the feedback.

Do you think with the info taken from Billboard 78 and 79 that Saturday Night Fever and Spirits sold more than 37.200.000 and 14.300.000 estimated by you in your excelent breakdown of best selling albums.

Spirits was a monster selling many copies in the first 10 weeks. For instance in New Zealand it was number 1 for only 4 weeks and spent barely 20 weeks in the charts. In spite of that the album was the 4th best seller of the year since Rianz charts were based on sales and no points. In Greece it sold 30.000 copies in just 8 weeks.

                        Thanks MJ for your time.

MJDangerous, do you know how much "Greatest Hits 2" by Queen has sold?. It was certified 4 times platinum while still selling in 1992. Maybe close to 200,000 copies by the end of that year. What about catalog sales?. Do you think that this album can have sold between 250,000 and 300,000 copies, overall?.

It was for sure 'OFF THE WALL' from Michael Jackson.
                            I've made the correction.

for those interested last june i bought the BLITZ portugal magazine and on the 'top singles & albums 20 years ago' showed madonna doing the double, both 'like a prayer' single and album at the top of the charts...

strange to see that back in june 1989 'like a prayer' was still number 1 single :-?

There isn't any database with old charts but people that have old portuguese magazines from the 80's and 90's can find the charts there... i have over 1.000 magazines saved but i get headache just staring
