I didn't realize that Balance scanned over 2 million, it seemed like such a non-event compared to For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, when in actuality it only sold 900k different (and keep in mind that hard rock was much more popular in 1991 than it was in 1995)

    Some US sales updates above.

311,000 albums sold in 2006 giving a running total since 1991 of 17,456,000 - thanks Hanboo.

And a full reunion tour this year.

Will those stage leaps still be possible??

Genesis, The Police, Crowded House, (Dio)Black Sabbath - who isn't reuniting this year?

Van Halen has one of the most impressive sales totals for its albums in the United States. Outside the United States though is a totally different matter.

German sales for 1984 look good, but it crawled to that sales level, as the certification for that level did not come until several years after the promotion period for that album was over.

Only two Gold albums in the UK and two Silver albums, no Platinum at all in the UK. Total sales in the UK are definitely below 800,000 copies.

But Van Halen does a lot better than JOURNEY outside the United States. Journey has no awards in either country.

I agree, their US sales are very impressive. They are 16th on the all time riaa list, but when you look just at bands they are a lot higher

    1 - The Beatles - 131.938m albums shipped
    2 - Led Zeppelin - 88.71m
    3 - The Eagles - 85.3m
    4 - AC/DC - 66.2m
    5 - Aerosmith - 62.63m
    6 - The Rolling Stones - 57m
    7 - Pink Floyd - 56.63m
    8 - Van Halen - 55m
    9 - Metallica - 52m
    10 - U2 - 50m

Interesting that this elite list has

    4 UK bands - 334.3m albums
    4 US bands - 254.9m
    1 Aussie band - 66.2m
    1 Irish band - 50m

Total shipment of these Top 10 bands is 705.4 million.

Thats right, Van Halen is the 3rd highest selling American Band in the United States. Van Halen with David Lee Roth has sold 34 million, Van Halen with Sammy Hagar has sold 16 million, and Van Halen with Gary Cherone has sold 500,000.

The question is, how well did their version of You Really Got Me sell?
They did not sell many, but they were one of the best - God save the Kinks!
