Thanks, Wayne - although there are hundreds of missing posts, perhaps everything that was longer than 10000 characters originally . . . . . I hope they can somehow be recovered.

Although I haven't checked the whole thread, it looks as if everything that went missing has returned - certainly the very longest posts are there, so the not-quite-so-very-long ones surely will be too. And everyone on Chart Analysis will be even more pleased that Hanboo's thread has been restored too!

Many thanks for dealing with this so quickly, Wayne - I should be able to sleep more easily tonight than last night.....

It's really interesting to compare your charts with my current "years ago" cycle.

    Thread here : https://www.ukmix.org/showthread.php...pective-charts

You already can find my retrospective charts for the first week of 1949, 1969, 1979, 1999, 2009 years and I try to finish first 1989 chart on the weekend.

    December 1979 :
Three my number ones here (Dreaming, Day Trip To Bangor, I Have A Dream)

    January 1989 :
    Full version of your # 2 here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-om1jIFG9k
Only 2 entries will be able in my January'89 chart : BZN (Wheels On Fire) and Anny Schilder
"Ring Ring" - in my top 10 ABBA songs.

2019 : It's great to see some songs from good old days (Nicole, Brotherhood of Man, Olivia Newton-John and Dana Winner) in main chart and Creamy, Dooleys, Vulcano (the song from NSF 1983), both Blondie in "bubbling under" part.

P.S. : I like the good songs selection from Netherlands and Germany in your charts. Both countries could be my third favourite in music (after Lithuania and UK), especially for schlager scene. I will check your 1983 and 2005 charts later.

My celebrity crushes : Monika Sedziuviene, Kristina Ivanova (YVA).

Dreamer, you must to visit Lithuania and see/listen a live concert of your YVA strawberries.

Many thanks for the comments ! I actually prefer the shorter version of "On The Inside" - the longer
version seems a bit slower for me - but the Dutch and German charts have provided a lot of my
favourites since I first discovered them on the radio in the early-mid 1980s. However, this month's first
retro chart is from an earlier time, when I was only listening to the UK chart - there wasn't even an Irish
chart show on the radio, as this was during the 34-week period when it was forced off the air. My
favourites thirty-nine years ago, when i was fifteen years old, were these:

I like all these! Did the 90s boyband remakes of 'I Have a Dream' and 'You Needed Me' by Westlife/ Boyzone also enter your chart?

Thanks, Benny - although I bought both of these remakes, Boyzone's "You Needed Me" didn't even reach the breakers, and Westlife's "I Have A Dream" spent just one month as the number 40 breaker, number 125 in the extended chart. I preferred their remake of "Seasons In The Sun" which was the double-A-side of the same single - that spent four months in the breakers, peaking at number 82.

    January 1983 :
Good to see 4 Nicole songs in top 10. I love her songs, but a little less than you. "A Little Peace" was # 1 for 2 weeks, but my main favourite from ESC 1982 is Mess - Sonntag (Austria).
"Save Your Love" - my favourite single from 1982 year with 7 weeks at # 1.
"Gloria" - represented in the bottom of my chart.
"Just What I Always Wanted"- top 3 hit.
"I Feel Love Comin' On" - # 1 (and many other her singles did it before).

    2005 year :
Gwen Stefani - Cool (her best song with 3 weeks at # 1)
Cascada - most her songs were peaked in top 20 and even in top 10, but she didn't have any big hits in my chart.
Y Asi - last Eurovision song from Austria, which I like.
    Turbo Polka - # 1
Jessica Simpson - These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - # 1 (original by N.Sinatra also was # 1 in 60s retrospective chart).
Laura and the Lovers - good entry and I like the most Lithuanian ESC songs, but prefer YVA - Barbie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBS8JpEKkJY) from their national pre-selection.
Anette Louisan - the voice of angel, she is the one from my last music discoveries.
Djumbo - Eyahe - wonderful piece of true pure pop, add this single in my Youtube playlist.
Gemma Hayes - Undercover - didn't know before, of course add in my Youtube playlist.
    Shakira - Don't Bother - top 20 song.

Bonus : My favourite songs from ESC 2005
Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes (Switzerland)
Lise Darly - Tout De Moi (Monaco)
Laura & The Lovers - Little By Little (Lithuania)
Shiri Maimon - The Silence That Remained (Israel)
Gracia Baur - Run and Hide (Germany)
Feminnem - Call Me (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Global Kryner - Y Asi (Austria)
Natalia Podolskaya - Nobody Hurt No One (Russia)
My celebrity crushes : Monika Sedziuviene, Kristina Ivanova (YVA).

Dreamer, you must to visit Lithuania and see/listen a live concert of your YVA strawberries.

Nicole is my favourite recording artist of all time, ranked on points - she has over seven hundred points more than the second-placed act, from thirty-three hits. She eventually had three number ones - but not until the 1990's!

For me, the best was the first I heard, quite some time before it became a sales success - "(I Need A) Miracle". Four more then reached the top twenty, one just made the bottom end of the top forty, and four others stalled in the breakers.

I'm afraid I don't really remember any of them except the three I bought!

Now - the second monthly retro chart for February. I was twenty-two years old, in my second year as an audit assistant, and enjoying the hits of more European countries than ever! These were my favourites thirty-two years ago.....

Thanks, Benny! I don't hear "Calling America" very much on the radio nowadays - programmers seem to prefer
a couple of E.L.O.'s much earlier works. But all the others still get plenty of airplay 30+ years later ("Ti Sento"
only in continental Europe - not a success in the UK, we hardly ever had hits in other languages here back then).

and Hooverphonic. So there is a new number one – after entering at the top last time, 100-year-old Sid
    Ramin
falls two places to number three, overtaken by two tracks written and recorded more than fifty years
after “Blue Tango”. Up one place into the runner-up spot is a song which has recently dominated the top end
of sales, downloads and streaming charts all over Europe for Ava Max, “Sweet But Psycho” – but the
success of my new number one, the 238th, is only just beginning to spread beyond the German-speaking
countries, in all of which it has somehow managed to reach the top ten despite not being repetitive,
unintelligible rap. “Speechless”, by Robin Schulz featuring Erika Sirola, climbs nine places to pole position
    – and only one of eleven climbers this time makes a bigger ascent. That’s Gato Barbieri with “Firepower”
from 1979 - which is the Rapid Riser, racing up sixteen places to number fourteen – and other very old
songs are the longest laster and fastest faller this month. From 1984, Raffaella Carra slides two places to
38 in her fifteenth appearance with “Fatalita”, while from 1965, “The Carnival Is Over” dives eight places to 24
for the Seekers. Twenty-one other hits are descending, leaving room for three brand new entries – and one
of those was first released in 1972. The late American composer, conductor and arranger Henry Mancini
doubles his presence in my current chart - as “Theme from ‘Cade’s County’” sneaks in at number 40, while
his more well-known theme from “The Pink Panther” remains in the top ten. But the other two new arrivals
are much more recent dance singles - Sofi Tukker featuring Nervo, the Knocks and Ailsa Ueno come in
at number 35 with “Best Friend”, while last month’s Chartbuster from Elderbrook, “Old Friend”, makes its
    chart debut at number 17.

The early indications are that 2019 is shaping up to be as lacking in promising new releases as other recent
years – if not even more so. Absolutely nothing I have heard for the first time in the current chart shows
and other radio programmes that I regularly tune in to has impressed me in the past month – so ten
previously overlooked singles from years gone by belatedly receive opportunities of chart action. They are all
from 2003 and 2004, and include cover versions of songs that have already charted for other acts – Belle
    Perez
with “Hijo De La Luna”, Foster and Allen with Silks and “The Fields Of Athenry”, Jamelia with
“Stop”, the Skandi Girls who “Do The Can Can”, and Belle Lawrence’s dance version of “The Closest Thing
To Crazy”. Meanwhile, Sarah Connor and Ace Of Base could increase their tallies of hits with “Living To
Love You” and “Unspeakable” respectively – while Chipz, Estrella and Within Temptation make their
debuts in the breakers with “Cowboy”, “La Fiesta Loca” and “Stand My Ground”. But what is this month’s
new Chartbuster? Well, guaranteed a place in next month’s top forty is a quirky, cleverly written song that I
have only just discovered – as it was featured in one of the many retro-based chart shows that I also listen
to. It appears to have been very popular when first released – although it is difficult to be sure, because it
predates the UK charts, the Billboard Hot 100 and the hit parades of other countries. It was recorded in May
1951 by a singer who was then thirty-five years old, and who died in 1994 at the age of seventy-seven,
having enjoyed a four-decade career in American television, presenting and starring in her own music, talk
and variety shows – and is apparently regarded as a classic example of a "censored rhyme” song, in which
the word the listener is waiting to hear as the rhyme of each couplet is replaced with an unexpected one
which segues into the next couplet or chorus:

There once was a farmer who took a young miss
In the back of a barn, where he gave her a...
Lecture on horses and chickens and eggs,
And told her that she has such beautiful...
Manners that suited a girl of her charms,
A girl that he'd wanted to take in his...
Washing and ironing, and then if she did
They could get married and raise lots of...

Sweet Violets”, by Dinah Shore, is my March 2019 Record of the Month!

Many great 80s classic and two nice 70s instrumentals in the Breaker's chart!

I'm not alone in love with Skandi Girls song and like to introduce legendary top 3 of my chart on Christmas week in 2004.

    01. (NE) Hot Pantz - Give You One For Christmas
    02. (NE) Skandi Girls - Do The Can Can
    03. (NE) Avid Merrion, Davina McColl and Patsy Kensit - I Got You Babe

"Give You One For Christmas" spent 5 weeks on the top.

Also I didn't see any fresh singles from the (Bucks) Fizz in your chart ?
Both "The F-Z of Pop" and "Christmas with the Fizz" were amazing albums.
Possibly you are not a fan of group.

Dinah Shore got her deserved place in my 1949 chart with "Buttons And Bows" and I like this 1951 song too.

The only two Bucks Fizz singles that reached my chart were "Making Your Mind Up" and "When We Were Young",
which peaked at 13 and 19 respectively. I also bought "Now Those Days Are Gone" and "The Land of Make Believe",
but these both fell a long way short of a chart entry.

I don't think I've ever done a feature on the best instrumentals - I wonder if I can put together a top 100 to post
at the middle of this month! I would need to decide whether to include tracks that reached my chart "only" as
instrumentals, even though a less impressive or completely unimpressive vocal version was also available.....

I like all these! I only discovered the Kinks song a few months ago. Before, I only knew them as a 60s band, I had no idea that they had a successful comeback song in the early 80s!

It was just a one-off return to the UK top forty, a decade or two after most of their bigger successes -
I'm not sure that I would have been aware of many of their earlier hits when this one charted. The only
other one I bought was "Days", which reached the breakers for the Kinks but peaked at number two in my
chart in the version by Kirsty MacColl.

When that cover was released in 2002, it became the fourth version of this song to reach a peak of
number three in my chart! Masquerade's was already there in March 1984, and this would soon be
matched first by Nino de Angelo (with recordings in German, Italian and English) and then by Vicky
    Leandros, in Dutch and French:

Well, I have now managed to do exactly that - and it has been quite challenging to decide on what qualifies as
an "instrumental" from the top end of my all-time chart. While it is unfortunate that I have to omit tracks such
as "Offshore" by Chicane, "Bullit" from Watermat and Klangkarussell's "Sonnentanz" - among many that reached
the top end of my monthly chart primarily on the basis of their initial instrumental releases - I quickly realised
that I would have to restrict the list to tracks with no vocals present at all on any known version.

I hope I haven't allowed anything to slip through the net that doesn't meet this definition - at almost the last
moment, I realised that there was still one there that had to go. That was Jonathan King's "I'll Slap Your Face"
    - in which it suddenly and belatedly occurred to me that "Ow!" is heard a few times (after each slap, I guess...)
If anyone spots anything else that does have even as few lyrics as that, do please let me know!

So, as can now be seen, the results are perhaps a surprising mix of:

    - classical pieces brought "up to date" to some extent, often by a certain Dutch female flautist

    - television show and film theme tunes

    - dance and trance singles from the nineties and noughties

    - old tunes that I've only discovered and charted quite recently

    - chart show countdown backing tracks, some of which are also back in the breakers now

    - and much more!

Perhaps this just reflects what a wide range of instrumentals I have loved over the years! And here they all are:

Thanks, Benny - although only a minority of the instrumentals on my list turned out to be major successes in the sales charts of the UK and other European countries, you've picked out a few there that really did do well!

Unfortunately, I have already realised that there were some lyrics in both "Dolly's Song" and "Magic Carpet Ride", so I have now amended the chart to remove Holly Dolly and Mighty Dub Katz from the top ten, move everything else upwards a little, and add another Eric Prydz track and another version of the "Doctor Who" theme in at the bottom of the top 100 !

Now, the second retro chart of the month - and it's back to when I was twenty-six years old, and somehow
managing to avoid the redundancies coming to some of my colleagues during a recession here in the UK. But
there was a lot of good music around, and I was also able to obtain several older singles that had eluded me
for some time. These were my favourite tracks twenty-eight years ago:

Love some of your instrumental songs. One of my favourites being Julia's Theme - a lot of emotional connection to that as an EastEnders fan.
