She had an attitude back then. I like some songs in it such as Midnight Fantasy. But it an overall mediocre record IMO.

I used to be a huge VB fan! I still enjoy her music today despite knowing she doesn't want to record again! I guess Victoria feels ashamed for her solo career and allways refuses to talk about that time, not sure why :(

Midnight Fantasy was a potential single, so popish and if recorded by the Spice Girls in the 90's it would have worked for sure. A mind of its own video is just amazing and shows a much more side of Victoria. I still believe that Ciara Go Girl video was inspired by Victoria Beckham's Not Such An Innocent Girl. That video is her best!! I.O.U. is dedicated to David and Victoria has performed it for him singing LIVE. It was really emotional. Every Part of Me has wonderfull lyrics and u can hear Victoria's first son... so cute

The problem about her was that Out of Your mind, that is NOT on the album, sold massively but didn't go #1 and Victoria remains the only solo Spice Girl not to have a #1 single in her country.

Midnight Fantasy is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

This is the best Spice Girl solo CD IMO. She may not have the best voice, but her songs are quite catchy!

    The best songs are:
    1. Not Such An Innocent Girl
    2. A Mind Of It's Own
    3. That Kind Of Girl

I really think she should have released this album with a perfume!

Not my favourite solo Spice album, but it's still good enough in my opinion.

The single choices were crap though, not saying that's why it didn't do good but there's no doubt she could have picked better songs to release as singles.

I still think "I Wish" and "Watcha Talkin' Bout" are the best two songs on the album.

I have to say Northern Star is so much better. Much more mature pop sound. VB was teen pop, which did not really suit Victoria

Anyone but me listening to this in 2017?

I loved this back in the day. She should have released IOU as her lead single - NSAIG was a terrible lead single. She was also wrong not to work with Truesteppers after the success of OOYM, because the pop sound made her sound like she was playing it safe.

My favourites were IOU, Midnight Fantasy, Girlfriend, Mind of Its Own.

I wish she had finished her 2nd and 3rd albums (recorded more or less at the same time) had some great songs on them too.

I used to love this record, but have to admit I haven't listened to it in a while
A Mind Of It's Own was always one of my favourites, stunning record which sadly didn't set the charts on fire. She was never going to have the success of Melanie C or Geri, but I agree that NSAIG certainly didn't help as a lead single (even though I do like it).

    Agree with all of this.

I think this whole era was an interesting exercise in fame and branding. The general public knew her as 'the quiet one', the 'WAG' and the 'one who sings the least'. Probably the least Spicy of the group. Was the GP hanging out for solo material? No, not really. And because of her fame at the time and discernible talent, she was an easy target for the media.

The album itself is as good as urban pop was in 2001, nothing more, nothing less... but it didn't matter. The public preferred her as one half of Posh N Becks than as a singer. Maybe not what she wanted to hear back then, but seemingly, she understands that now.

I think she writes catchy pop hooks, her voice is kinda cool and there is good material on the album (I agree the single choices were strange, did anyone buy her as "not innocent"?! And then to follow up with a song where she talks 60% of it, considering the "lack of talent" angles in the press...). Whatcha Talkin Bout, I Wish, Like That, Girlfriend are all good to my ears. And of course, she dropped from the tracklist the one song that had been a hit for her.

Yeah. Always thought that if this was a duet with another female pop or R&B star, it would have done well for her.

I don't get why "Out of Your Mind" was left out of the track list. This was released at a time when previous hit singles are eventually included in the albums, Mel B and Emma had their hits ("I Want You Back" and "What I Am") in their solo albums. :-? :-? :-?

It was an odd decision, considering OOYM was also a Virgin release. I agree the single releases were wrong, but ultimately I think there was a huge lack of any sort of lead single - there isn’t really a statement song on it.

I just feel like VB simply didn’t know who she was as a pop star away from Posh Spice, and that’s why she always failed. Sure, she had bad press at the time and was a WAG, but she was still a Spice Girl and still had a fan base waiting - she managed to get the album and it’s 2 singles top 10 after all.

I still have no idea why she didn’t build an album around the sound of OOYM - it’s one of the best selling Spice singles and sold 400,000 copies in the UK alone - and would have given her an edge in that it wasn’t like anything the other girls were doing (and doing better).
