Like fellow AOR superstars Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Boston and Styx, Journey released a string of multi-Platinum albums in the late 70's early 80's and rules FM airwaves.

It seems a major part of their Soundscan era sales are catalog though, their Greatest Hits has continued to sell extremely well and now rank as the 4th biggest catalog seller of the Soundscan era.
GH likely account for around half of Journeys's soundscan sales. I don't know their total, but they're not on Hanboo's list, so less than 15M - over 6.4M of those from GH.
Similar to the sales pattern of Bob Marley/Legend.

I'm over halfway revamping the 28 artists over 50m on my USA Top Artist thread.

When I've done that I'll be looking at a few artists that may be on the 50m mark and I'll include Journey.

Wish we had just a few more soundscan figures.

Their Greatest Hits album is a great listen - and certainly better compiled that the Boston one.

Even though the AOR era is well and truly over, some of their singles are quite timeless and so still get good radio play.

Thanks Dane - a thread on them was overdue.

Yes if any AOR band has endured it is Journey. Airplay is higher than those of their contemporaries, and so is their catalog sales.

Boston's debut is probably still my fave AOR album though, followed by Escape by Journey and both Double Vision and Four by Foreigner.

All three bands have released some classic albums and are way better than Styx and REO Speedwagon imo. Although back in the day those two were just as big I suppose.

Oh yes, all 3 were a cut above the rest. Frontiers was also good. Yeah, Double Vision/Four the best 2 by Foreigner. Was always some good stuff on each Boston album (even Walk On) but also some duffer stuff and some almost re-writes of earlier songs!

Styx were fine (have Paradise Theatre) - but REO? no no no...

Journey played in Viña Del Mar which has a huge sung festival in Chile.

The show was just ok and the new vocalist is not Steve Perry. When you love a Woman was a smash in Chile in 96 and of course they were huge in the 80s.

Does anyone know how the last 2 Albums with Steve Augeri sold in the US?

I don't know their Soundscan sales, but neither are certified. Both charted on BB 200 though, see Hanboo's Chart Histories for details:

New Journey album enters BB200 at #5

Journey's Wal-Mart exclusive set "Revelation" opens at No. 5 with 105,000 copies. It's the band's highest charting album and best sales week since "Trial By Fire" debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 145,000 in 1996. That was the band's last album with lead singer Steve Perry; new frontman Arnel Pineda was discoved by Journey via YouTube.

I am surprised consumers are so ready to embrace Arnel Pineda when people wouldn't buy Steve Augeri's albums because they refused to accept Journey with a lead singer who wasn't Perry

could this high sales be generated because this is a 3-disc set and all 3 discs are counted seperately?

So, that means 190.000 sales / 3 = means in fact 63.000 sales total? or am I really wrong with that??
