    Other Compilations
    1968 none Magic Bus
    1974 none Magic Bus/My Generation - 2LP
    2002 none My Generation Deluxe - 2CD

Lots and Lots of double albums on this list. Could be the most for any band!

In 1993 their whole catalogue seems to have been updated by the riaa. This shows what shipment levels were reached - BUT it doesn't show us the shipment level.

In other words, a title certified Platinum in 1993 could have shipped anywhere between 1,000,000 and 1,999,999 at that time.

We have no idea, therefore, if any of these titles are due an update.

However, what is plain is that The Who were never mega sellers in the US.

    Their riaa total is 20,625,000

Hanboo has kindly provided a much needed soundscan total of

    6,100,000 from mar 1991 - jan 2006.

Allowing for the lack of updates and uncertified titles, their maximum US album sales look to be in the 30 to 35 million range.

Note that 2 Gold compilations (Who's Better and My Generation) never actually charted on the billboard200.

    Thanks Basil!

I'm not surprised that "Who's Next" is their biggest album. It's such a classic, I love tracks like Behind Blue Eyes, Baba O Riley and the magneficent Wont Get Fooled Again.

Thanks, basil, any idea on the Kinks sales? Would not be very high in terms of album sales, I know, they would have sold a few million singles around the Globe, though.
They did not sell many, but they were one of the best - God save the Kinks!

Thanks for the Who. I agree with Blackcat. We need a topic about the Kinks sales.

Both groups are one of the reasons that I love the British rock scene of the sixties.

Yes, Kink's You Really Got Me and Who's My Generation are both essential in the development of Hard Rock.

Not mega, but very decent. Their Soundscan total in January 2006 was 6.1 million units.
Selling about 500K a year, the number must now be close or over 7 million.
Not bad for a band that only released one new studio album in the last 20 years!

    Much thanks Hanboo!

    And thanks for everyone's appreciation.

I've now added UK Sales (2nd post) and further updated US Sales (1st post).

If jimmypages is reading this, is there any chance of UK sales info? (because the bpi stuff is so USELESS!)
