Pitchfork just rated Rhythm Nation 1814 with 9 (Better than Thriller, Dangerous, any album by Beyonce, Sade, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Oasis and so on... It's in pair with Prince and The Beatles. Just to show how amazing that is). I wonder will they rate The Velvet Rope even higher? They often mention The Velvet Rope as an influence in reviews of albums by other artists. In my opinion The Velvet Rope is better album.
^That's amazing. I feel like "Rhythm Nation 1814" is one of the pinnacle albums that defined the 1980's along with "Thriller". TVR slightly edges RN as her best album. It's her most personal album imo.
I don't think they'd rate this higher than Rythm. I fee like Control and Rythm are the albums critics consider her best and most influential but I'd definitely put TVR at a 10
I wouldn't call All For You her worst...but it sure wasn't notable quality wise. I would actually put Unbreakable as her underrated/underappreciated work.
She was still hot stuff during all for you (and amazing considering this was around Brinty/Nsanc time), but the album just had her most pop material if that's to count for anything.
I think TVR is the fan favourite, Control and RN1814 are critics favourites, janet. is the best seller
Agreed.
What about "All For You"?
From the moment she did the "Fran Drescher laugh" you knew this was not gonna be on the level of her other albums.
Definitely lol
Its a good album. It has some great hits/songs on it. She had great energy and enthusiasm for it but quality wise it wasn't on par with the big four. There was some mediocre to bad songs on it too. Still a good addition to her discography though.
