No, not the phone-and-broadband company and erstwhile Big Brother sponsor.

They were a London based synthpop/New Wave combo of the 1980s who experienced far more success on the continent than back home....any one else a fan?

Oh, you beat me to it! Great group- must get their albums. Only have the 1990 best of. They started out as a synth pop group and evolved into a more thoughtful pop/ rock act before the acclaimed 1988 album Spirit Of Eden in which they were a jazz/ art-rock act - with big long songs about faith and religion and society. They went from being Duran-ish to a sort of proto-Radiohead.

    Clips:

Annoyingly- the first version of this vid is "not available in your country"- thankfully, most "retro" vids are unaffected by the YouTube "ban" at present. If a record company can't upload it, a public user can!

    Such A Shame
    Life's What You Make It
    Living In Another World

The art-rock closing period (Spirit Of Eden):

    I Believe In You
Bassist Paul Webb left at this point (later turning up as Rustin' Man on an album with Portishead's Beth Gibbons)

The final 1991 album Laughing Stock had no singles and was released on the jazz label Verve. EMI didn't know what to do with them and so dropped them, but not without releasing the successful Natural History compilation which finally made the awesome It's My Life the top 15 hit it should have been in the first place. They also released a remix album that hit the top 40 but was withdrawn after leader Mark Hollis sued them for making it without his permission and effectively "raping his work".

Yeah, for years that's the only song of theirs I knew.

I read a long article about them in Mojo once - interesting story.
    They need rappers like me
So they can get on their fuckin' keyboards and make me the bad guy, Chun-Li

"It's My Life" was an amazing song. I did buy the GH but found it disappointing.

However, we are talking 1990 when I was 7 years old. I think I may well like it if I listened to it now!

Talk Talk are legends. Very underrated band.
Life's What You Make It is my fav.
The original of It's My Life pisses all over the overrated Gwen cover.
    Let's have a second referendum

I just love them for making It's My Life so that No Doubt could cover it and have one more hit.

    Heheh.

I found Life's What You Make It much better than IML. It has a lot more life in to it.

I like "It's My Life" from them... ironically, I didn't discover it until No Doubt covered it

I love the remixed Talk Talk.

The videos It's My Life and Talk Talk are 80s classics.

The second version of the video

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_My ... _Talk_song)

The second version, recorded at the behest of EMI, consisted of the entirety of the original video projected on a green screen behind Hollis on guitar and vocals as well as his two bandmates as they lip-synched and mimed the song, deliberately poorly and with comic exaggerated gestures.

Apart from 'It's My Life', I also love 'Such a Shame' which flopped in the UK and the US but reached number 2 in Germany.

I discovered Life's What You Make It back in 2002 as it was featured in GTA Vice City. It's My Life is my favourite and I discovered that after hearing the No Doubt version in White Chicks.
