    A true legend.

Songs like "Wuthering Heights", "Babooshka", and "Running Up That Hill" are among my favourites

She's the BEST. Out of all artists out there she has the most appealing catalogue I think. She's an excellent story teller and she caused such controversy with her songs.

First Album: Song about incest (The Kick Inside)
Second Album: Song about homosexuality (Kashka From Baghdad)
Third Album: Song with references about paedophilia (The Infant Kiss)

    and so on...

she absolutely was ahead of her time.

This thread needs links and pics.

Of course she's a legend. I'm not mad keen on her early stuff- The Dreaming is her first great album, for me. Hounds Of Love onwards she was just incredible.

Wuthering Heights (the famous White Dress Version)
Wuthering Heights (the Red Dress Version)
The Man With The Child In His Eyes (from the Dutch Efteling TV special- wonderful stuff!)
Wow (from an Abba TV special!)
    Breathing
    Babooshka (the sex!!)
    Army Dreamers (political!)
Sat In Your Lap (now THIS is where she starts to get SONICALLY interesting! The fact that this went top twenty is amazing!)
The Dreaming (UK #48- it was never gonna be a big single but, boy, what a work! A song about Australian Aboriginals featuring Rolf Harris!)
There Goes A Tenner (peaked at #101 in UK! Her only straight flop.)
Suspended In Gaffa (non-UK single- rarely seen)
Running Up That Hill (on MySpace- as ever- the biggest song is hard to find on YT with this ridiculous clampdown in place- why just censor the biggest, though??)
    Cloudbusting
Hounds Of Love (my fave from that album- i didn't know the spoken sample was from the 50s horror Night Of The Demon! Has anyone got a file/ link to the US single mix that had an extra chorus? I've not heard it)
    The Big Sky
Don't Give Up (with Peter Gabriel) (the famous hugging video)
Don't Give Up (rarely seen second version)
Experiment IV (hugely under-rated song about music that kills (!) that was swamped by the duet from PG's So album)

I also found - a few weeks back- a great clip of another duet between Kate and Peter that was never officially released- from that Efteling TV special:
    Another Day (Roy Harper cover)

    More later...

The Sensual World Stunning sensual song.
This Woman's Work Written for the John Hughes film She's Having A Baby in 1988, here's a video with clips from that film- the album/ single version was different.
This Woman's Work original 1989 video
    Love and Anger
"It's so deep, i don't think i can speak about it"- erm, hello to me.
Rubberband Girl Fantastic barmy first single from an unfairly maligned album!
Moments Of Pleasure Wonderful song about memories of those we've lost.
The Song Of Solomon Not a single but i love the Bible reference and the achingly honest lyric and vocal from lover to lover. Bat For Lashes' Natasha Khan uses this classic set of Biblical poems as inspiration on her Two Suns album.
The Red Shoes extended video version- from her film The Line, The Curve, The Cross.

Found this early version of Red Shoes album track Why Should I Love You? before Prince added his bit- quite different! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbP-dapt09Q

Album version with Prince (incorrectly titled- presumably to stop Prince finding it and removing it?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnYapeF3ctE

    Love this collaboration!

"Have you ever seen a picture of Jesus laughing? Do you think he had a beautiful smile? A smile that healed?" Oh yes! Hallelujah!

Oh yeah- Lenny Henry is on it too- see if you can spot where!

I forgot to post the 1991 Elton John covers single!

With a good cover of Rocket Man as the A side, the real gem is her AWESOME version of Candle In The Wind on the flip- truly the best version by far- utterly angelic and divine!

I love the video to "Wuthering Heights"! Yeah Kate Bush is amazing, it's a shame she seems to be only releasing an album every 12 years at the moment though. :(

Apart from The Red Shoes and This Woman's Work (songs), I don't like anything she did after The Hounds Of Love. I think she hit her peak then and never got back to it.

I was SO disappointed by Aerial.

By the way - I'm listening to CITW as I type - and it's beautiful, you're right Blondini. It sounds as though she actually wrote it.

I'm currently addicted to Houdini and Hammer Horror which I think came out around the time of that special. Damn :(

Hammer Horror video- you can see where Natasha got the blacked-out dancer idea from for Bat For Lashes' Daniel!

I already posted the duet with Peter Gabriel- Another Day from that 1979 special.

It seems every music clip of the special is on YouTube

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_t ... ecial&aq=f

I thought it was good but the clips from the Dutch TV special were better.

It's piano based and very "kitsch" in sound- her big production work wasn't yet in evidence and melody was a stranger on most of her pre-82 albums. The likes of Babooshka and Wow sound very dated now- just as Toyah or Hazel O'Connor do. I was "weened" on eighties synth pop so i like big productions and melodies over quirky singer/songwriter sparseness. I'm baffled that you can't like her post- Hounds stuff.
To me her best work is in the last four albums, not the first four. Ryan would agree with me. With The Dreaming being the perfect bridge between the two styles.

But her earlier albums has their own personalitys aswell.

I could never see the world without Kate, she has opened up my eys.

I loved her since I was 6, and heard Wuthering Heights. But 9 years later when I wanted to discover all her music - WOW.
When I heard Houdini, and when she began screaming before the violins.. I think I was carried away in a way I'd never experienced before.

    The Kick Inside highlights:
    - Moving
    - Strange Phenomena
    - Wuthering Heights
    - L'amour Looks Something Like You
    - The Kick Inside (one of her absolute best songs)

"Your sister I was born..." mmmm

    Lionheart highlights (LOVE THIS ALBUM):
    - Symphony In Blue
    - In Search Of Peter Pan
    - Oh England, My Lionheart
    - Coffee Homeground
    - Hammer Horror

    Never Forever highlights:
    - Egypt
    - THE WEEDING LIST (one of her best)
    - The Infant Kiss
    - Army Dreamers
    - Breathing (outstanding)

Im obsessed with There Goes A Tenner, such a unique song!
