Note, I'm fully aware that the release date is just over a month away, but with the single rumoured to be impacting at radio this Monday, and with the leaked I Didn't Know My Own Strength already registering airplay, I feel this topic needed to be created!

Whitney Houston - I Look To You

Album release date: 28th August 2009

The first song that leaked was I Didn't Know My Own Strength. Before it was even confirmed as being on the album, it was registering airplay in the US. The most recent figure I've seen is from over two weeks ago:

    US Airplay Update (Mediabase):

    7/7/2009

    AI: 0.662 million
    Spins: 53 (UAC 46 / URB 7)
I Look To You leaked yesterday, and there is now a report claiming that this will be the first single from the album:

Whitney Houston returns to form with I Look to You, the first single from her new album of the same name, impacting radio July 27. The soaring ballad was written by R. Kelly and produced by Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason Jr. Its Whitney at her finest, doing what she does best. Preview the album here.

This goes against various other reports that claimed Milli Dollar Bill was going to be first single

Glad she is back. But that cover is airbrushed beyond belief.

wow, the great has a great start, so i guess "Million Dollar Bill" will be the second one, i don't expect a huge airplay hit (Top 10) but it could be Top 40 on airplay, then with the downloads....i wish it went Top 10 or at least Top 20

Btw it's a gospel song about God, I really hope this will be big, it would be nice for Whitney to be back on top with a gospel song instead of some hip hop beat like everyone else. How special would that be?

It would actually be quite heinous. Keep the jesus freak songs in the church I say.

One is the "comeback single" and the other is only the "following single." I am really missing something, because I can't see the funny part.

It's more like an inspirational song about faith, hope and God... It's not a "church" song... I say keep the porn hip hop songs in the bedrooms... We need something classy on the radio, like the old days...

Totally agree. I guess hype for Whitney comeback will be huge and radio stations will play her new songs a lot.

As I was saying at FOTP, I personally feel that radio will milk this for what it is at the start, but it'll get too a stage, once the hype has worn off, where airplay will stall. I think her album will do well, but the single wont be a big hit (if its Look To You)

It's hard to say... I think it will perform like When You Believe... but then the following uptempo singles (Mill Dollar Bill, Nothing But Love, Calling You Tonight) will be bigger hits and get the album some strong legs (kind of like how Heartbreak hotel, It's Not Right But It's Ok and My Love is Your Love did after WHen You Believe). But who knows the song I Look to You can be a big hit, we'll see...

I agree, i think the album will be more successful than the singles. I just can't see radio playing "i look to you". It might have worked way back in 1987 during her golden era but not 2009. Perhaps thats why there are rumors surfing that "million dollar bill" might be released at the same time. I'm thinking it's probably more radio friendly.

I'm guessing "million dollar bill" will be for the younger generations while "i look to you" will be for the older ones.

Lets see what happens. The charts these days are soooooo unpredictable.
