I recently transferred to the US for work, so my already crazy job got a bit crazier. It's something I've wanted to do for a long while now, though, so I'm happy, though a bit tired at the moment.

Yep, you're exactly right! I like to describe myself as the stubborn optimist, and "Pocketful of Sunshine" captures that energy better than any song I can think of.

"Hot Girl Summer" is such a BOP! I think it will certainly be bag with renewed vigor around the weekend.

Yep, Hälfte is only for "half" not "double Digits"
I also did not mean "end". With complete I meant I did not "live everything" in my life or "something" I'm still missing in my life

Ah, okay! The word you used translated to "binary" on Google Translate.

And noted. Searching for the missing pieces can be a fun journey.

That descriptor works for this chart, my life, and me in general.

It is a great song indeed - so criminally underrated!

I should probably read it. I've seen her interview with Oprah, and she's really lived an incredible life.

    Hi Akini

Looks like someone has been listening to Lexicon. <3

01.(NE) Will Young - Faithless Love (Hot Shot Debut)

As you may remember all 12 tracks from the album appeared in my top 20 the week after the album was released - only the third album to achieve this (after 25 and Golden). Faithless love did end up getting overlooked slightly as this got to #19 in that first week. On paper that probably looks disappointing but i'm sure that was just one of those freak weeks where everything in the top 20 got a lot more plays compared to quieter weeks. Same thing happened the week after eurovision thinking about it.

03.(NE) Will Young - Say Anything

Interesting that it's the tracks towards the end of the album appearing the highest here.

06.(NE) Will Young - The Way We Were

Aww now this is a beautiful track. <3 A perfect closing track for the album. The chorus is so euphoric despite the track being a ballad. I adore the vocal melody so much. I'd be happy if this was chosen to be a single but a fourth single is probably very unlikely to happen.

08.(NE) Will Young - Ground Running

Speaking of singles, i read that this is apparently the third single. An excellent choice imo - well, it's the album track that went on to top my chart so JakePsychic heard the potential in this track. It's very radio friendly and i could easily see this track getting more people interested in checking out the album.

12.(RE) Will Young - All the Songs

Classic unadulterated pure pop, how could i not love this song? Super catchy and the production is so sparkly and bright with Will sounding as amazing as ever before. Still up there amongst my absolute favourite songs of 2019 so far.

    Best of the rest:

04.(01) Taylor Swift - Blank Space
07.(RE) Billie Eilish - Bad Guy
09.(04) Rose Royce - Wishing on a Star
    11.(RE) Ava Max - So Am I
13.(RE) Ava Max - Sweet but Psycho
16.(RE) Madonna - Don't Cry for Me Argentina
17.(05) Miley Cyrus - Slide Away (Biggest Free Faller)
19.(NE) Billie Eilish - Wish You Were Gay
20.(RE) Billie Eilish - When the Party's Over

Speaking of Ava Max, have you heard the new single Torn yet? It's already made a big impact on my inner teenybopper which i'm loving. I'd love to see Torn give Ava another worldwide hit.

Of course, love seeing all the Billie in there - was it prompted by her surprise turn at #1 this week? I've seen so much press about her knocking off OTR, I wonder if it will boost interest in the song?

Of course, I love all the Kacey being in there a couple days ago- hoping the survivor was the reason Glad Rainbow made the cut.

Rixton is a thing I forgot existed!

    Hey, Jake!

Yep, I've been really bad with checking out LPs this year, and it hit me that I'd yet to hear Will's album in full, so I rectified that. It was a good listen, and a better effort than I was expecting.

I actually didn't remember that, but how impressive! "Faithless Love" stood out to me immediately; I think I was sold after the first chorus.

Interesting that it's the tracks towards the end of the album appearing the highest here.
    I hadn't even noticed that!

Aww now this is a beautiful track. <3 A perfect closing track for the album. The chorus is so euphoric despite the track being a ballad. I adore the vocal melody so much. I'd be happy if this was chosen to be a single but a fourth single is probably very unlikely to happen.
    Very Mika-esque.

Speaking of singles, i read that this is apparently the third single. An excellent choice imo - well, it's the album track that went on to top my chart so JakePsychic heard the potential in this track. It's very radio friendly and i could easily see this track getting more people interested in checking out the album.
Oh, this would make a great single choice! He's really been hitting the nail with the single releases this era.

Classic unadulterated pure pop, how could i not love this song? Super catchy and the production is so sparkly and bright with Will sounding as amazing as ever before. Still up there amongst my absolute favourite songs of 2019 so far.
Yep, it's easily among my faves of the year thus far, too. I find it quite relatable.

I've not yet heard "Torn", but thanks for letting me know it's out. Like I said, I've been pretty trash at checking out new music, particularly in the last three weeks. The good news is that Ava's three for three with me, so I'm expecting "Torn" to be good.

I think it was more due to me realising I hadn't checked out the album yet than her hitting #1...but maybe the latter brought the former into play.

Yep! Kacey gets all the love from critics she deserves, but it's a shame her work isn't commercially successful the way I feel it deserves to be. It's weird to prognosticate about music 10 years down the line, but I can see more than a handful of her tracks becoming classics in the decades to come.

My music library always brings back random names!

Yes, I was so happy for her to win AOTY, even though I was rooting for Janelle, just a little harder. But primarily for that reason - that it hasn't been a commercial success like it could be. I think some of that - well, probably a lot of it - is politics, but also that her music has always colored outside the country lines a little - which I think is why she has so many non-country fans.

As for your Wednesday chart, well it's a mixed bag for me, but I like So Am I - actually more than Sweet But Psycho, even though I still think they're essentially the same song. I am loving Hot Girl Summer!

...Apologies if I'm being slow/dense here, but when you say "transferred to the US for work," are you telling me you now reside here in the US of A?!? If I'm understanding correctly - HOLY SH*T!!!! Congrats on making such a major life change! Do you mind saying which state? Did you make that massive move by yourself, or did any family/friends also relocate for this new American adventure? HYPE!

    • Ha, "So Am I" returning to No. 1 now feels like a rebuke of Ava's three more recent offerings (none of which are anywhere in sight, though "Freaking Me Out" did make a couple of lowly appearances over the past week). I'm a little surprised by the degree of enthusiasm I've seen for "Torn" elsewhere on UKMIX, but if it keeps her from going down as a 1.5-hit-wonder on most official charts, I'm fine with that. Hopefully your recent relocation doesn't have you feeling like too much of an outcast/misfit, though!
    • So "Faithless Love" appears to be your Lexicon standout (singles aside - or maybe singles included?). It definitely offers a different sound/vibe from the two singles so far! Flex that range, Daddy Will.
    • Aw, seeing "Teardrops" on the eve of Tay's SEVENTH album release has me tearing up a bit. What a decade+ it's been for the girl who was once just "wishing on a wishing star..."

Yet another chart that works for me, myself, and I, Akini!
