Phew! Its omission stood out to me since it was the only TUN track to miss the cut on that first chart after the album release, so I'm relieved to hear it wasn't deliberately ostracized to accentuate your displeasure with it.

It's been fun and fascinating to follow the fluctuations of the TUN tracks here throughout their first week of availability. "Ghostin" has remained safely in the lead for me (with regard to the new/previously unheard songs), but "Fake Smile" has started settling pretty comfortably into second place, so I'm glad to see it make a strong comeback. That "f**k off, fake smile..." line alone keeps popping in my head so. damn. often.
Speaking of "In My Head," I'm not totally sold on it as an overall listening experience, but I appreciate the oh-so-relatable message. I feel like it extends well beyond romantic partners too: friends, family, co-workers, UKMIXers. You think you have a pretty clear idea/understanding of who someone is...until something(s) happen that reveal you've been WAY off and only seeing what you wanted to see in them.
    • Ditto for not being totally sold on "Break Up With Your Gf...", but I love her decision to sample "It Makes Me Ill" I did NOT expect to hear a random No Strings Attached album track sampled on TUN, so that was a hilarious, nostalgic surprise. Granted, Halsey did just sample "Cry Me A River," so maybe digging into JT's back catalog is just trendier than I realize...

Yet another chart that's in my head + my heart, Akini!

The two kinda coincided, to be honest, and I'm actually hesitant that this...undefined situation could jeopardise my peace of mind, but I'm also well aware that I haven't had feelings quite this strong in...seven years!

I'm taking my time exploring TUN, and it's been a pleasant voyage.

The only new songs I saved on the first spin from the album were "Ghostin" and "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored", but Horacio tweeted about "Fake Smile", making a favourable comparison to MC's Butterfly vocals, so I revisited it to see what in heavens he was hearing, and it ended up connecting with me.

Yeah, I'm connecting to "In My Head" on a more romantic level - basically how you can fall in love with an idealised version of a person as opposed to the man right in front of you, but I 100% agree that it extends to all those parties, too. I can't say I have much personal experience with being way off about people. I'm usually close to the mark, if not exactly on it, but some people can be ridiculously difficult to read!

Well, I'm kinda totally sold on it now! Hilariously enough, I can sorta relate to it.

I actually haven't heard that *NSYNC song.

Aw, I missed the Puppies Are Forever day

Nice to see you revisiting Kacey in light of her Grammy win! I was rooting for her or Janelle to win, though I was rooting for Janelle a little harder. I do think Golden Hour was an excellent choice as someone who has managed to push the limits of the genre.

Was curious to see your reception to thank u, next. Bloodline looks to be a complete miss for you?

Thanks for introducing me to it! It'll probably be back at some point.

Yeah, Dirty Computer was my favourite album of 2018, but Golden Hour was among my top 10 LPs, too. Kacey's such a clever songwriter. I can't be too upset with her winning, though I was still a bit disappointed that Janelle's brilliance and bravery weren't awarded.

Hmm...I actually don't remember how that one sounds. I'll have to revisit it.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised given your name, but it is still surprising to see a male country artist in your top 20.

    Yes for Valentino!

I'm actually a fairly big fan of country music, but you're right - the females usually do way more for me than the males. A good song is a good song, though.

I am absolutely delighted that Olly and MNEK came together for a song! The video is cute, too.

08.(RE) B.J. Thomas - Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head

Great to see one of Madonna's most underrated songs and BJ Thomas' great classic!

I don't like that Rihanna song. But... Deeper and Deeper is a classic. IF is the best song in your top 20 for me this time. I love Janet.

You'll probably like today's chart then.

Hopefully you've been able to enjoy (at least parts of) this roller coaster ride! Those butterflies are some of the best feelings in life.

(Former) Swiftie Horacio? Bless him for salvaging "Fake Smile" for you!

    O RLY...?

Not gonna lie - I'm viewing basically every No. 1 lately through the lens of "How does this relate to what's going on with that boy?" Apparently you've been putting your defenses up (cause you don't wanna fall in love), yet still falling deeper and deeper (the further you go). Now "If" makes perfect sense based on your insinuation above that this guy might not be entirely-romantically-unattached. Roller coaster ride indeed! Whatever the exact status may be, hopefully he's been treating you right (and showing you a damn good time).
    • I thought "Valentino" might smash a little harder here, given your recent interest in MNEK and the enthusiasm you displayed over in the song's Pop thread. It also seems fairly lyrically relevant right now yet something must still be missing/lacking for you...
    • That totally-unexpected "The Boy Who Murdered Love" re-entry has me smiling BIG time! I was pretty obsessed with that tune back in 2010. I hope this one's not back for personal-relevance reasons, though...

Yet another fabulous chart, Akini - no ifs, ands, or buts about it!

Some great tunes. "I Will Always Love You" is obviously legendary. I actually prefer Dolly's version, glad it's also appearing alongside Whitney's cover.
Great re-entry for "Valentino". Definitely a highlight of the new releases from last week. Hopefully a hit for them, at least in the UK...

Agreed! By the way, how cool is it that Ari got you to change your avi to a non-anime image! I certainly remember you rocking a Janet avi last year, and you did Kylie recently as well, but this is still a rare treat!

    Yep, the one and only!

I don't even have a response for this at the moment. It's not salacious, though.

    You are. SO. DAMN. INTELLIGENT!!!

You're spot-on with "Heart Attack" and "If". "Deeper and Deeper" is a very personal song for me, though, so it's not in any way, shape, or form linked to that situation. Someone actually shared the track in the Random Thought thread, and that prompted me to revisit it.

My excitement was due in great part to the fact that two of my favourite LGBT+ guys teamed up for a track. I definitely wasn't expecting it, so it was a pleasant surprise. Both of them have done better, but it's not a situation where the song is mediocre. I guess I just haven't really connected to the song as much as I thought I would have. Maybe I will at some point.

The song was submitted in the Song Collectors game! I strongly doubt any singular person could ever murder love for me. The stubborn optimist in me simply would not allow it.

Yeah, I guess the Grammys are to thank for me really connecting with Dolly's version of "I Will Always Love You". I've been enamoured with Whitney's version for two decades now, but Dolly's more stripped down version has its beauty, too.

"Valentino" definitely deserves to be a hit!
