The riff goes back further - it's Louie Louie by The Kingsmen, basically. The same riff featured on Rainbow's Since You've Been Gone and Transvision Vamp's Baby I Don't Care.

Even though they had higher charting singles, I do think Boston definitely peaked with their debut single, but what a classic rock staple it is. Pretty much singlehandedly invented "arena rock" that would be massive in the late 70s/early 80s
