Personally this is my second favorite by Mariah Carey album behind Daydream.

Favorite tracks are Vanishing, Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, and Prisoner.

From an artistic standpoint, I think Butterfly was her best. But as a collection of songs, she has never topped this album. Not a bad song on the whole album, and it was also before her music got too hip hop influenced (nothing against that, I just kinda liked her being a little more on the "pop" side).

I only bought this last week, I was really suprised how fast I got into the songs, I thought it would take me atleast 5 listens but from the 1st listen I fell in love with the album, even faster than butterfly, which I bought at the same time.

I love the rap in prisoner, showcase mimi's earliest attitude!
You see me and then say "Mariah I miss you" , Expect me to hug you & kiss you?

    other highlights:
Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry.
I'm the terminator, bitch talk slick, I'm a have to terminate her ¯\_(?)_/¯

This is my favorite album, ever. It's actually tied with The Emancipation of Mimi. I just can't decide which one I like a bit more... probably the debut.. oh forget it. LOL

Anyway, there is not one track I skip/dislike from this album. It's a truly amazing debut and probably her most diverse CD in terms of genres. You have:

    Pop - Love Takes Time
R&B - Sent From Up Above
Gospel - There's Got To Be A Way
    Rap - Prisoner
    Rock - You Need Me
Adult Contemporary (if it can be considered a genre ) - I Don't Wanna Cry

I love everything from that era. Mariah's performances, her interviews and music videos.
If you don't get on the ride, you won't experience the adventure...

    whaaat? I'm being honest.
I like those music videos. They totally have the early 90's power ballad vibe.
As for her interviews, yeah you can tell she's holding back her true personality (especially if you watch in comparison her post Butterfly interviews) but I love seeing her early days. She used to be SO modest and shy.

I love the cheesy early videos with her the super curly wet looking hair. It didn't age well but come on, 1990 is twenty years ago now. I don't get her hate for those videos, some of her more recent videos have been more embarrassing.

I know Love Takes Time's video is a classier version of H.A.T.E.U's.

Definately! She hit her musical peak with this album, but not her peak in terms of artistry!

I talk about this quote a lot, but I remember the most interesting interview with her in a pool in B&W from around 1999/2000.

She talked about the woodshed where she recorded a lot of tracks, and how they were the best songs. And how when the record label put her in the big fancy expensive recording studios, something of the magic of the first album was lost. And songs from those early sessions in the woodshed were better than some expensive songs that ended up on the album.

I really wish I could find that interview again, it's a real interesting watch.

For me the 80s-ness of this album makes me But there are some excellently-written, amazing songs like Vanishing, All In Your Mind, Sent From Up Above, Love Takes Time and of course Vision of Love

Absolutely LOVE this album....I wish I could hear these songs for the first time again.

I miss that feeling of getting to know "Vanishing" and "All in Your Mind" :(
I’ll just sit right here and sing that good old school sh@* to you!

I am surprised she dislikes the Someday video so much she replaced it with a live performance on her video collection. Yes, the hair was bad but it was the first video of hers that really displayed any of her personality on camera, and was a cute video about a "young Mariah" (or at least that's how I interpreted the little girl in it)

I'm surprised about Someday too seeing as it was her idea the whole kid Mariah concept. Love Takes Time on the other hand... lol I personally love that video but it definitely has its weird moments: she's running towards an invisible wall, she finds a telephone booth in the middle of the beach etc

I'd have to rank this as my 4th favorite Mariah album (behind Butterfly, Daydream, and Music Box)...but that's not to say it isn't an AMAZING album!

"Vision Of Love", "Love Takes Time", and "Someday" are all some of my all-time Mariah faves, and "Vanishing" undoubtedly has some of her most impressive vocals I would've loved to see "Prisoner" as a single too!

I'll just repeat what majority said on this topic: it's her best album
The only thing I don't like about this album is title. It should have been Vision Of Love

I love this album. Mariah at her best. Some tracks on here are true masterpieces though she was kinda forced to record this type of material...

Well, you have to remember the timeframe it came out in. Back in the 80's and early 90's it was far more common for a debut album to be self-titled. Janet, Madonna and Whitney are three other big stars from the era I can think of whose debut albums were self titled.

Fantastic pop record. My fave is Vision of Love, while my least favourite is probably Vanishing. But every song could have easily been released as a single.
It's my 2nd fave Mariah album I think.

And what a bold move it was to follow Vision of Love up with another ballad!
