Was listening to an Elvis CD the other day from his Sun recording sessions days, and heard Elvis's version of I Love You Because. Reminded me of Jim Reeves, another artist who I feel deserves a thread on here.

Will start with some information from Hanboo, thanks, Hanboo! These are Jim's chart runs from the UK and US singles and album charts, and various other data about Mr. Reeves:

So one number 1 UK single for Jim, Distant Drums, which topped the charts 2 years after his death from a plane crash in 1964, which at the time was a highly unusual length of time for a postumous number one to top the charts. He also had 2 UK number one albums, and it does look like he was more popular in the UK than in the USA.

For those who don't know much about him, here's the Wikipaedia entry for Mr. Reeves:

    http://en.wikipaedia.org/wiki/Jim_Reeves

    And the wikipaedia discography:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Reeves#Discography

He was popular all over the World, having big followings in such contrasting places as India, South Africa, and Ireland.

Unit sales around the World? Maybe, again, 40 to 50 million.

A youtube clip is in order here:

Distant Drums, his biggest UK hit.

Right, please be gentle in your replies to this thread, as gentle as "gentleman Jim" was, I have had a hard day on this forum today!

    No name calling, please!

Right, another thread in the records!

Thanks Jbnva, I knew all that of course, I wish he had have had a lot more certifications!

As I say, he seemed a lot bigger in Britain and other countries than in the States.

    1) Jim Reeves is one of only 3 Solo Artists,
who have achieved 3, (or more), simultaneous
UK Top 10 Albums, on more than 2 occasions.

The others are Elvis Presley, & Michael Jackson.

    Elvis had the No.2, 3, & 4 Albums, in the W/E November 30th 1957 Chart.
    Plus the No.2, 3, & 5 Album's, in the W/E 7th December 1957 Chart.
    He then had the No.1, 4, & 7, Albums in the W/E 10th September 1977 Chart.

    Michael Jackson had 5, 6, 5, & 3, Albums in the Top 10 - for 4 Weeks -
    in July/August 2009.

JIM REEVES - THREE UK TOP 10 ALBUMS FOR 3 WEEKS

    W/E 12th September 1964

    No.3 - GENTLEMAN JIM
    No.7 - MOONLIGHT & ROSES
    No.10 - A TOUCH OF VELVET

    W/E 3rd October 1964

    No.5 - MOONLIGHT & ROSES
    No.8 - GENTLEMAN JIM
No.10 - GOD BE WITH YOU

    W/E 24th October 1964

    No.3 - MOONLIGHT & ROSES
    No.9 - GENTLEMAN JIM
    No.10 - GOOD ‘N’ COUNTRY

    2) 'Distant Drums', was orginally the 'B' Side
of Roy Orbison's 1963 No.9 UK Hit, 'Falling'.
Jim Reeves had privately recorded it for its
composer Cindy Walker. Neither RCA Records,
nor his Producer, Chet Atkins, thought it was
good enough to be a Single.
In 1966, it was added to, (in the Studio), to
give it a better sound, & instrumental backing.
It then became a UK Single, & reached No.1.

Jim Reeves had some huge selling singles in the UK, I I Love You Because and I Won't Forget You both sold over 750,000 without ever reaching the top. His only number one Distant Drums sold over 600,000.

Thanks for this. I'm a huge Jim Reeves fan and my parents were when I was little in the 60's. My fave album is Twelve Songs Of Christmas. Superb Christmas album. Was re-released last year on CD.

Billboard magazine 4 des 1965 : " I Love You Because" has had a fantastic sale of 100,000,
a tremendous amount here where the gold disk for the 50,000 sales is handed out
    approximately once a year only.
