Yes, that is where I got the information from too. But no, I don't think they sold the same amount of copies, that would be too much of a coincidence. I think the journalist just forgot to include a figure of the Beatles or there is something weird with that award (which isn't shown in the Capif site).

That award was included in the old CAPIF website http://web.archive.org/web/200412221958 ... =DILP&CO=2

Argentina is the third biggest market in Latin America, but for Queen it is probably the best market in that continent. They have great numbers: the two compilations have sold altogether over 1 million copies, while the remaining catalogue has obtained good figures thanks to A Night At The Opera. HUR, I've just a curiosity: how is Absolute Greatest in Argentina? Is it moving a bit in the market or is it penalized by the fact that the two Greatest Hits have obtained an enormous success?

HUR, do you know how many Platinum awards won Dangerous by Michael Jackson in Argentina (possibly with source)?

I have been trying to get a figure for that album with no luck. I will keep searching.

The second option is the most likely. It is penalized. It debuted at #3 in the weekly chart and ranked at #15 in November 2009 (monthly chart). Both are shipments-based. In the over the counter ranking, it didn't even make the Top 20. If it sold more than 10,000, I would be surprised. It may become a good seller over the years, like it happened with "Platinum Collection" in many markets.

I think that Argentina is indeed their biggest market overall. I wish I could have some further details for other countries but I don't. I would say that towards the second half of the 70's and early 80's, they were equally big in Chile, Argentina and Brazil. But, on the whole, Argentina does have the lead. But there are exceptions; in the early 90's, "Innuendo" sold 150,000 copies in Mexico, for example, better than in Argentina.

Some of the top selling albums of the period between 1993 and 1994. Not all albums are there, but most are.

                Luis Miguel Aries 630,000
                Luis Miguel Segundo Romance 360,000
                Fito Paez Circo Beat 300,000
                Eros Ramazzotti Todo Historias 300,000
                Soundtrack Tango Feroz 300,000
Ace Of Base The Sign 300,000
Patricia Sosa Luz De Mi Vida 270,000
                Los Pericos Big Yuyo 250,000
                Soundtrack/Whitney Houston Bodyguard 240,000
                Aerosmith Get A Grip 180,000
Guns N Roses Spaghetti Incident 120,000
                UB40 Promises And Lies 67,000
                Roxette Crash Band Boom 65,000
Diego Tores Tratar De Estar Mejor 60,000
Joan Manuel Serrat Nadie Es Perfecto 60,000
Pink Floyd The Division Bell 60,000

At that time, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' "Vasos Vacíos" was released and was certified platinum 7 times over for sales of 420,000 copies. Not sure what it sold, but it will have been there too.

Luis Miguel's "Segundo Romance" had just been released, which means that it went 6 times platinum in about two months. It would eventually go diamond.

Some international acts had some impressive sales, including Aerosmith with "Get A Grip", the first in a trend of consecutive successful albums in Argentina. Plus, Roxette were still doing very well.

Luciano Pavarotti Pavarotti And Friends 60,000

Not album are there. If I find anything more, I will obviously include it. These are all confirmed sales figures, from the most realistic and serious sources such as Billboard, Noticias and others.

I may eventually edit the first posts and add everything in order to have it in the first page.

I love how popular my messages are in this forum.

Great sales for HIStory for to be a double album. It also sold more than Bad.

That is great. I'm not sure if "Bad" has all its sales in anyway. Higher awards may have been achieved and they just don't show up in the Capif site.

I was waiting for someone to ask for this. Not all peak positions here. There was no singles chart (based on sales), but physical singles were allowed to chart in the main album charts. "Joyride" was number one.

There is not an official singles chart. All I can tell you is that ROXETTE was huge in Argentina between 1989 and 1995. Several hits topped the radios charts... actually there were a couple of Airplay charts using the information provided by the main radio stations but still not official.

                                        My estimations:

                                        Look Sharp 120,000
                                        Joyride 420,000
                                        Tourism 210,000
                                        Crash boom Bang 90,000
                                        Baladas En Español 30,000
                                        Have A Nice Day 20,000

Not sure if they release any other album.
Actually "Get to the chorus - Greatest hits" sold pretty well (I bought a copy)

Thanks for the singles info...but still... we don't have an official singles chart
