Thank You has become her first video to reach 100M views on YT! White Flag will achieve the same success in a few days. True classics

If YT was around during White Flag heyday it would have MASSIVE views. That song was unescapeable.

On this day 15 years ago album Life For Rent was released. It was one of the most spectacular album launches in music history. On that day Dido performed mini concerts in several cities in Europe and USA which were heavily covered by the media. For that occasion British Airways provided a special plane with her name and album title on it, so the whole world could see the UK best selling female artist at the time. LFR sold 102k copies in the UK in just one day, while it reached 5M mark in the world in just two weeks. Those were the days

Great to have her back again I like her music.

Just checked her certification and I‘m surprised “Girl Who Got Away” has only a silver certification in UK. Does anyone knows how far it‘s away from gold?

Shouldn't be far. It was 80k in June 2014. Probably it will go gold with a release of new album.

    Video directed by Pete Lawrie.

Dido about the video : I hope you enjoy this lyric video for Hurricanes. It was made by the truly talented Pete Lawrie and I love how he brought across so beautifully the feeling of the song - the strength of love & sticking together in the face of uncontrollable forces.

    Interview with her

You’ve been out of the public eye for quite a while, why
did this feel like the right time to return?

“I don’t really see it that way, I just got to a point where
I had a load of tracks that I was proud of and I finished
them. There’s not a huge amount of thought that goes into
    the bigger picture.”

How long has this album been in the making?
“For me, all songs go on a bit of a journey. There’s some
stuff I might have written ages ago and then it changes and
I might do different versions. I’m always writing, but we
probably started recording it last year.”

How did it all come together?
“It was made at home and it was almost an extension of
Rollo and me hanging out with each other, back to how
it used to be. We made No Angel in the same studio as
Faithless; we were doing our own projects, but we all worked
on everybody else’s projects too, and Rollo created this
wonderful family. I missed that and so I called him a couple
of years ago and said, ‘I’ve got all these songs, but I only
want to make a record if I do it with you. I don’t have a label,
so there’s no pressure. No one’s waiting for this record, no
one’s expecting it and I just want to have fun doing it the
way I want’. I wanted it to be simple and moving, and to
reference the sounds I love – electronic, dance, hip-hop, and
folk – and Rollo was totally up for that. [Faithless’] Sister
Bliss played keyboards and it was lovely. I was also writing
with Rick [Nowels], who I wrote White Flag with, so it’s
been like a friends and family excursion.”

And how do you expect it to be received?
“Oh, I don’t know! I’m just excited for people to hear it.
I’ve never been one for expectations anyway, I’m not very
good at thinking ahead, but it’s always interesting to see
what people think because you’re so insular when you’re
    making it.”

What have you made of the changes in the way the
music industry operates since you’ve been away?

“I love the freedom now you’re not confined to certain
structures. You’re not completely reliant on record
companies deciding, you’re not reliant on radio deciding
and I think that’s great – you get real freedom from that
as an artist. Even though everyone’s like, ‘Albums don’t
matter, it doesn’t matter what order the [songs] are in’, to
me, it did. You want to make sure that a) All your tracks
are going to resonate and b) It almost mattered to me
more what order everything was in and that it had a little
journey. We had way too many songs and we took a load off
to do that. But on the flip side I absolutely love that I can
write a song tonight and then put it out if I wanted to. The
freedom of that, combined with the freedom of not having
a record deal, just felt really good. I like the way things are,
I think they are in a good place.”

What sort of fanbase do you think you’re coming back to?
“I have absolutely no clue and I feel pretty relaxed about the
whole thing. What’s lovely is that I’ve had a lot of people come
up to me saying things like, ‘Your album was the first I bought’
or, ‘You were the first artist I saw in concert’ and that’s
amazing. It feels emotional in a way because I remember what
I listened to when I was a kid.”

Why do you think No Angel went stratospheric?
“If anyone said they knew what was going to happen with
that album they’d be lying – nobody expected that, at all.
That was a little record I was making alongside everybody
else in that studio, but there were moments that changed
things for me and that’s the amazing thing about music.
Even the way I got signed was just somebody passing something on to somebody
else and then I ended up being heard. Obviously Stan came along later, but there
were so many little moments of magic around that record – and I toured it for a
    long time.”

Did you take much time off before starting Life For Rent?
“I literally came off tour and went to the studio, so there wasn’t a break at all. My
thought process, slightly stupidly, was, ‘I’m going to get all these songs and ideas
down and then I’m going to take a break’. But, of course, I got the ideas down and
everyone heard the record and it was like, ‘Right, off you go again!’”
How ready were you for that level of success?
“It wasn’t as sudden for me as it was for everybody else. I’d been touring with
Faithless since 95/96, I’d done a lot of stuff with them as a backing vocalist, and
then I headed off to America in 98/99, when No Angel came out, I toured for a
year-and-a-half. I can’t remember when No Angel came out in England [it was
February 2001] because I was in America for such a long time, so it was this
gradual process. It seemed like this bolt out of the blue to everybody else, but in
my little bubble of doing shows every night it wasn’t that out of the blue. Having
said that, it’s pretty crazy what happened and it’s still quite hard to get my head
around. It’s pretty magical basically, I’ve had a really great time.”

And how do you feel about going back on tour?
“At first I was like, ‘Woah! I haven’t done it for so long, how’s it going to be?’
There is always a fear of the unknown, but the band are my friends, basically,
so it’s just an extension of how I made the record. All the best moments of my
career have been on stage and being part of something that turns into a moment
of magic. On that last tour we played this amphitheatre in the south of France
and it was just the most breathtaking, beautiful place. I remember standing there
thinking, ‘I couldn’t have imagined this for my life’. I feel very, very lucky.”
