Biography
Mýa Marie Harrison (born October 10, 1979) is an American recording artist, songwriter, and actress. She signed with Interscope Records in 1998 and released her eponymous debut album the same year. The album was a commercial success in the United States and produced the top ten single "It's All About Me". Shortly after the release of her debut single, Mýa was featured in the Pras single "Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)" which peaked at #2 in the UK. Later that year, Mýa joined BLACKstreet, Blinky Blink and Mase for the song, "Take Me There" which was featured in the Rugrats: The Movie soundtrack. Fear of Flying, her sophomore album, was released in 2000 and its second single "Case of the Ex" peaked at #2 in the Hot 100, becoming her highest-peaking single as a solo artist in the US.
In 2001, Mýa performed the Dianne Warren-penned song "Where the Dream Takes You", which was the soundtrack theme to the Disney film, Atlantis: The Lost Empire. In 2002, Mýa won a Grammy Award in the category for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the remake of Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" alongside with P!nk, Christina Aguilera and Lil' Kim. Prior to the Grammy win, the song's video won them the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year and Best Video for a Film. Mýa Harrison released her third studio album, Moodring, in 2003. It produced the single "My Love Is Like...Wo" and was certified gold by the RIAA. The video for "My Love Is Like...Wo" earned Mýa nominations for Best Dance Video and Best Choreography in the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2009, Mýa competed in the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars season nine, finishing in second place. After a string of Japan-only album releases with Sugar & Spice and K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple), she released a series of extended plays on her independent label Planet 9. In 2016, Mýa released her seventh studio album Smoove Jones, her first full-length studio album in five years, and it was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2018, she released her eighth studio album, T.K.O. (The Knock Out). As of October 2009, she has sold over 3.2 million albums in the U.S. and 7 million albums worldwide.
