Tony's Hits and Albums Charts (13th April 2024) Boys, Babe, Ramona, Reality, Perrie, Rum, Eclipse and X

    HAPPY NEW YEAR, NEW THREAD!

1 NEW Oh My! - Bad Date AUDIO
Now sounding like their mentor Example (but miles better) this dancefloor stomper is their fifth hit and second #1.

2 3 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry FAN VIDEO (OFFICIAL CONTEST WINNER) (4 weeks; peak #1)
Well done to Shayla on a great job!

3 15 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die VIDEO (8 weeks; PEAK)
Yes - 25-6-15-3 is an odd run recently but this was far too pessimistic for Christmas!

4 1 The Hoxtons - Benton! (Fenton!) Jesus Christ! (2 weeks; peak #1)
5 4 Niki and The Dove - DJ, Ease My Mind (2012 version) (3 weeks; peak #2)
6 NEW Lana Del Rey - Off To The Races VIDEO

This came out free right on top of Christmas. A real grower. And a slightly naughty self-assembled clip video.

    7 6 Muchuu - Dance The Day (5 weeks; peak #1)
8 5 Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) (3 weeks; peak #3)
    9 8 Fun. - We Are Young (4 weeks; peak #2)
    10 10 Glen Campbell - There's No Me... Without You (3 weeks; peak #10)
11 NEW Black Casino and The Ghost - Falling Into Pieces VIDEO/ Odyssea/ On A Plane

Great new indie rock band with a rockabilly/ new wave vibe and a cute toughie of a frontwoman.

12 9 Bethel Music feat Jenn Johnson - Come To Me (4 weeks; peak #4)
    13 16 Jane's Addiction - Underground (6 weeks; peak #6)
    14 18 Goldfrapp - Yellow Halo (4 weeks; peak #14)
15 12 Cattle and Cane - Cattle and Cane (EP) (Waiting) (12 weeks; peak #1)
    16 20 The Good Natured - Video Voyeur (5 weeks; peak #9)
    17 17 Kelly Waters - First Time (4 weeks; peak #11)
18 RE Glen Campbell - Ghost On The Canvas VIDEO (11 weeks; peak #11)
This lovely video was released only two months ago.

19 RE Florence and The Machine - Ceremonials (11 weeks; peak #10)
    20 21 Nicola Roberts - Yo-Yo (14 weeks; peak #8)
    21 25 The Wanted - Warzone (8 weeks; peak #14)
    22 22 Leona Lewis - Hurt/ Colorblind (4 weeks; peak #5)
23 54 Florence and The Machine - No Light, No Light (7 weeks; PEAK)
HIGHEST CLIMBER. Finally bought (both) the album(s).

24 13 Lovers Electric - Love Can Save Us (5 weeks; peak #10)
    25 19 Dia Frampton - The Broken Ones (7 weeks; peak #19)
    26 24 The Jezabels - Trycolour (7 weeks; peak #1)
27 NEW Goldfrapp - Melancholy Sky LIVE VIDEO
So Yellow Halo is just a promo video, not even an album preview download. This is the upcoming single from the singles album. Very odd as it's far less commercial.

    28 26 Charlotte Gainsbourg - Anna (3 weeks; peak #18)
    29 28 Post War Years - All Eyes (4 weeks; peak #28)
    30 33 Karen O/ Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross - Immigrant Song (5 weeks; peak #16)
31 RE Unquote - Heavy Rain (7 weeks; peak #3)
    32 35 Jess Mills - Pixelated People (5 weeks; peak #28)
33 29 Steel Panther - Just Like Tiger Woods (5 weeks; peak #15)
    34 30 The Pierces - Kissing You Goodbye (12 weeks; peak #8)
    35 42 Muchuu - On Beyond (5 weeks; PEAK)
36 RE Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe VIDEO (6 weeks; peak #23)
    37 41 Wolfette - Trophy Girl (9 weeks; peak #8)
38 NEW Uh Huh Her - Debris ART FILM/ VIDEO
39 31 Fall On Your Sword - The First Time I Saw Jupiter (4 weeks; peak #31)
40 39 Selah Sue and Tom Barman vs The Subs - Zanna (4 weeks; peak #26)
41 NEW Billy Bragg - Never Buy The Sun OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO/ STUDIO VERSION AUDIO
This came out last summer when the phone hacking scandal involving News Of The World first broke. Available FREE from his site.

42 RE Florence and The Machine - Cosmic Love (15 weeks; peak #9)
    43 32 Alex Day - Forever Yours (2 weeks; peak #32)
44 36 Niki and The Dove - Mother Protect (8 weeks; peak #5)
45 NEW Taylor Swift with The Civil Wars - Safe and Sound AUDIO
From the upcoming film The Hunger Games. Her fans now being exposed to TCW is a great development. This is more like them than it is her.

    46 2 Oh My! - Christmas Wrapping (2 weeks; peak #2)
Biggest/ quickest #2 drop ever (excluding mistaken entries for non-singles)!

    47 44 Miss 600 - Typically Me (3 weeks; peak #44)
48 58 The Ting Tings - Hang It Up (11 weeks; peak #21)
49 RE Florence and The Machine - Shake It Out (5 weeks; peak #36)

    54 49 Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons (11 weeks; peak #4)
    55 50 Yelle - Comme Un Enfant (5 weeks; peak #6)
    56 46 Coldplay - Charlie Brown (3 weeks; peak #46)
57 14 The Flaming Lips and Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band - Atlas Eets Christmas (3 weeks; peak #14)
    58 11 Hey Monday - O Holy Night (4 weeks; peak #11)
Note the similarity to drops in the UK Chart this week: Hoxtons = Military Wives, Oh My! = Lou Monte, Hey Monday = Nirvana. I don't quite have an Alex Day 4 and out case but Hillsong runs it close!

    59 23 Sunday Girl - Love U More (13 weeks; peak #1)
Seems to have been postponed as she's released a song from an ad, the passable Pixies cover Where Is My Mind? :-?
60 38 Caro Emerald and Brook Benton - You're All I Want For Christmas (4 weeks; peak #36)

Oh My! definitely trying to sound like Example on your #1, but I don't really like it - I think because when she says "Bad Date" the voice reminds me of the voiceover woman on Pete Tong's radio show!

Lana Del Rey - both good songs in the top 10 - "Off To The Races" is pretty decent & nice climb for Florence too.

Plus Adrian Rea had one week at 27 - same as Stacey Solomon in UK Chart!

Bit late so this chart counts for two weeks!

1 2 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry FAN VIDEO (OFFICIAL CONTEST WINNER) (5/6 weeks; 3rd/4th week at #1!)

              15 7 Muchuu - Dance The Day (6/7 weeks; peak #1)
16 NEW Kindness - SEOD AUDIO (1/2 weeks; peak #16)

Chillwave artist. Born Adam Bainbridge. If you are a former fan like me who despises the new Scissor Sisters single, take refuge in this dreamy disco-soul track.

              17 14 Goldfrapp - Yellow Halo (5/6 weeks; peak #14)
18 12 Bethel Music feat Jenn Johnson - Come To Me (5/6 weeks; peak #4)

Shoegazing band featuring ex members of Six By Seven and Bent. Nice Blake's 7 retro-glamour from Katty Heath in the video.

20 NEW Gotye with Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #20)

I'm not normally so late in catching on to a new talent. This seemed a bit Sting and slight at first but on reflection it's more like Peter Gabriel and actually suits my mood now with Facebook doing my head in.

21 NEW Snow Patrol - In The End VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #21)
First single i've liked from this album.

22 NEW Vukovi - ...But I Won't Wear You Again (EP) (Target Practice/ Gutless/ Snakes and Ladders LIVE VIDEO/ A Girl Called Jade) (1/2 weeks; peak #22)
              23 16 The Good Natured - Video Voyeur (6/7 weeks; peak #9)
24 NEW Vanbot - Make Me, Break Me VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #24)
Swede Robyn-pop (aren't they all?) from Ester Ideskog and her "silent" production partner. Named after a character from 90's kids show VR Troopers. I heard this months back but am only just charting it with the recently released video.

25 18 Glen Campbell - Ghost On The Canvas (12/13 weeks; peak #11)
26 NEW Your Favorite Martian - Friend Zone VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #26)
27 NEW Omniflux - She and Him AUDIO
              Another FREE "single".

              28 30 Karen O/ Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross - Immigrant Song (6/7 weeks; peak #16)
              29 17 Kelly Waters - First Time (5/6 weeks; peak #11)
              30 27 Goldfrapp - Melancholy Sky AUDIO (2/3 weeks; peak #27)
31 NEW Paper Crows - Gone AUDIO (1/2 weeks; peak #31)
              FREE "single".

32 RE Friends - Friend Crush (11/12 weeks; peak #16)
Reissue coming with Radio 1 backing. See also Friend Zone at 26!

33 23 Florence and The Machine - No Light, No Light (8/9 weeks; peak #23)
34 NEW Walk Off The Earth with Sarah Blackwood - Somebody That I Used To Know VIDEO
Neatly coinciding with the UK push for Gotye is this inspired Canadian cover (also charting in several countries). No, it's NOT Sarah Blackwood from Client/ Dubstar.

35 15 Cattle and Cane - Cattle and Cane (EP) (Waiting) (13/14 weeks; peak #1)
              36 21 The Wanted - Warzone (9/10 weeks; peak #14)
              37 19 Florence and The Machine - Ceremonials (12/13 weeks; peak #10)
              38 26 The Jezabels - Trycolour (8/9 weeks; peak #1)
39 NEW Do Re Mi with Kerry - Yodel In The Canyon Of Love VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #39)
Kerry McGregor was the wheelchair-bound X Factor finalist who sadly passed away from cancer last week. She had only recently posted several of her songs and videos on YouTube including this one from 1997. Came 2nd to Katrina in UK Eurovision qualifier - given a substantial remix improvement from the original. She said MTV "banned" the video, so it never even registered in the top 200. I'd never seen/heard this version before. There was a chart campaign this week for her track Freedom 2 by QFX, but i would have preferred it to be this.

40 NEW First Aid Kit - Emmylou VIDEO (1/2 weeks; peak #40)
Swede female folk duo with a country song namechecking Emmylou Harris and other greats.

41 24 Lovers Electric - Love Can Save Us (6/7 weeks; peak #10)
              42 22 Leona Lewis - Hurt/ Colorblind (5/6 weeks; peak #5)

              45 34 The Pierces - Kissing You Goodbye (13/14 weeks; peak #8)

I don't think you've done quite enough to get a fourth Lana Del Rey track into the UKmixParade tonight - but we'll see..... I must find time to listen to some of her new album tracks soon!

I've heard a few references to the Sting-iness of this, but I think I see what you mean re Peter Gabriel. This is just one place higher in my chart this month - a new entry. So I was perhaps a bit late with it too.....and very late to spot a certain resemblance of parts of the background music to "Baa Baa Black Sheep" !

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of the recent death of Kerry McGregor. Bizarrely, I had almost included "Yodel In The Canyon Of Love" as one of the "former number ones" in last month's chart - it had been my number one in January 1998 - but I went with a different combination of past years instead. It will be back in the breakers this month.

I think it actually reached the top of my chart at that time because that was when I obtained a copy of the original 12" release, from 1995 - Kerry wasn't mentioned, it was credited to "Eden Fizz" - but I'm almost sure that one of the versions was (virtually?) identical to the Eurovision submission of two years later.

I hadn't previously heard of the video being banned - but I accidentally discovered for the first time today that the title apparently has an "urban dictionary" meaning.....

I don't know if the song came first, and its title was later adopted to denote another activity, or if the songwriters were already aware of this.....the BBC weren't.....but MTV were, and felt they had to ban for this reason!

Will be checking this stuff tomorrow. Thanks!

All the music magazines/ websites/ forums have tips for 2012. NME had "100 New Bands For 2012" issue.
There's no lack of "new" music at all. Never is at New Year.

I don't even have to check that urban dictionary. I can imagine what it means! That seems stupid - they didn't ban I Wanna Sex U Up or numerous more "explicit" song titles. Surely they just refused to play it cause they thought it was rubbish?

Great chart overall, as Kuba said I'm checking out some of the songs that you charted.

                              Your #1 is decent.

Lana Del Rey & Arcade Fire are highlights of the top 10 for me.

In the rest of the chart, some good new additions - Spotlight Kid, Gotye & Kimbra, Snow Patrol & Walk Off The Earth.

Also like Carly Rae Jepsen & Florence.
