thanks so much for all comments

    week 50/2015 – 10 december 2015 New albums by Coldplay, Maria M. & Troye

    • Singles Top40

Nightwish’s domination is already fading a little bit, as most of their entries lose some positions this week and „The Islander“ already leaves the charts. But after all, „Élan“ remains on top for another week, bringing its total weeks at number one to seven non-consecutive weeks. Adele’s „Hello“ (3-2) and Justin Bieber’s „Sorry“ (4-3) remain strong, as both are up one position, and both also get certified with Gold.

The highest new entry comes in at #5 and belongs to country superstar Carrie Underwood, who released „Heartbeat“ as the second single of her current album „Storyteller“. It’s the follow-up to „Smoke Break“, which debuted at #5 as well and peaked at #1 a week later, being her only top hit so far. It’s also the first time she has two Top5 entries from one album. There’s only one more new entry, and it’s called „Wie schön du bist“ at #23. The song was the comeback single for german pop queen Sarah Connor, who used to release music in english back in the days, but came back with a german album earlier this year. And despite being one of the biggest pop stars in Germany over the last decade, the german album „Muttersprache“ is already her biggest success to date.

There are also four re-entries on the charts, with three of them being back due to new album releases. Coldplay debut on the album charts with their new album „A Head Full Of Dreams“, which brings the lead single „Adventure Of A Lifetime“ back as well (#11). Maria Mena gets a new peak for „I Don’t Wanna See You With Her“ at #13 due to her new album „Growing Pains“, and Troye Sivan just released his debut album which brings „Talk Me Down“ back to #29. The last re-entry belongs to Lena, whose back at #36 with „Wild And Free“, which also gets certified with Gold this week. This is the first time two singles from one album from Lena gets certified with Gold or more.

The rest of the Top10 is not that exciting. CL is down 2-4 with „Hello Bitches“, Selena Gomez keeps on increasing again as „Same Old Love“ is up 7-6, Nightwish’s „Ever Dream“ drops 5-7, followed by Guy Sebastian’s „Black & Blue“ (6-8) and Zara Larsson & MNEK’s „Never Forget You“ (8-9). Last but not least, Gwen Stefani returns to the Top10 with her pop ballad „Used To Love You“ (11-10).

Julie Bergan just entered the charts for the first time and already rises into the upper half, as „All Hours“ is up 23-14. Sam Smith is also back in the Top20 with „Writing’s On The Wall“ going up 21-17. There are obviously also some songs that leave that part of the charts, and one of them is „Focus“ by Ariana Grande. After only five weeks, the lead single of her upcoming third album already falls 15-22, doing much worse than her previous lead singles „Problem“, which spent its first 13 weeks in the Top20, and „The Way“, with 12 consecutive weeks in the Top20. Jasmine Thompson’s „Great Escape“ falls 19-26, which makes this the first week for a long time without a song by her in the Top20. It’s only two positions below „Adore“, which is back up 33-28 after a half year on the charts.

Julie Bergan is the biggest climber with her single „All Hours“ while Carly Rae Jepsen tumbles 17-34 with „Your Type“ as the biggest loser of the week.

    • Album Top20

While Nightwish got the top spot easily last week due to their concert effect, the band had a hard fight against Adele this time. At first it was actually a sure thing to see „Endless Forms Most Beautiful“ on top for an 11th week, but Adele took the crown in the last minute, giving her a second week at #1 with „25“. Nightwish has to settle down at #2, which is obviously still impressive after over 30 weeks on the charts.

Three new albums were released last friday, and all of them enter the charts back to back. Surprisingly, none of them is the highest entry on the charts this week, as that title belongs to a re-entry. French singer Marina Kaye released a deluxe edition of her debut album „Fearless“, and despite being a big success earlier this year, the album ‚only‘ peaked at #3. The deluxe edition is strong enough to let „Fearless“ re-peak at #3. The highest new entry is „Blue Neighbourhood“ at #4, the debut album from youtube star Troye Sivan, who already peaked at #3 with his „WILD“ EP earlier this year. The biggest surprise of the week is at #5 though, as norwegian pop princess Maria Mena debuts there with her seventh studio album „Growing Pains“. This comes as a surprise as her last two albums „Viktoria“ and „Weapon In Mind“ both debuted and peaked at number one. But the lead single „I Don’t Wanna See You With Her“ is already her lowest peaking single ever so far, and the album is much weaker than the previous two. The last new entry at #6 is „A Head Full Of Dreams“, the newest (and also seventh) album by Coldplay. Despite being not a big name on my charts at all, their last two releases still managed to get a higher peak, as „Mylo Xyloto“ debuted and peaked at #5 and „Ghost Stories“ at #3.

Nightwish still owns two more entries in the Top10, as „Imaginaerum“ decreases 4-7 and „Dark Passion Play“ falls 5-9. Anna Rossinelli’s „Takes Two To Tango“ is down 3-8 in its second week, while fellow swiss musician Jaël is back in the Top10 with her solo debut „Shuffle The Cards“ (14-10). The album is getting certified with Gold this week, being the first album by a swiss artist to get certified since the country pop band TinkaBelle went Gold with their second album „On My Way“ in early 2013. They are currently the most successful artist from my own country so far, as their debut went Gold as well and they also own a Platinum certified single. Unfortunately, the band disbanded in late 2013.

Just outside the Top10 there’s a second re-entry as Nightwish is back at #11 with their live album „Showtime, Storytime“. So while three of their albums leave the Top20, they still own five entries in the Top20 as „Century Child“ is still placed as well (7-16), and even getting certified with Gold this week. Ellie Goulding’s „Delirium“ (6-12) and Inna’s self-titled album (8-13) leave the Top10 for the first time, while Selena Gomez is doing it for the second time, but this time „Revival“ loses lots of positions (9-18). The upcoming release for „Hands To Myself“ as the third single may help it again though.

The debut for Troye ain't that bad He has the highest debut, higher than Coldplay.

And i think Justin will rise again next year. It's just too busy right now.

Big drop for Lena, I hope she can stay in your chart until the end of the year Same for Ellie, she seems to have poor longevity in your chart considering she spent 2 weeks at #1 ... are you going off the album?

Really love Sorry, it's grown on me loads this week Heartbeat is great but Carrie needs to start releasing the best songs on the album like Church Bells and Chaser... Glad to see Adventure of a Lifetime making a re-entry

Actually, yesterday I was listening to Nightwish non-stop but I listened to their pre-Floor songs, especially "Song Of Myself" The first half is EVERYTHING! I need this song to be cut!

Impressive that "Élan" is #1 for another week! It'll be on your charts for a consecutive year for sure! - Selena & Guy Sebastian are holding on very well!
But my favourite part of your current chart is the re-entry for Coldplay's latest lead single! They also got a new peak... that#s awesome! I really do like their latest effort. I still prefer "Ghost Stories", though.. that's also why I loved to see all that chart-runs of that era! Hopefully, this era won't be such a flop xD

Sarah Connor's NEW ENTRY "Wie schön du bist" is quite surprising! That song is almost dead in Germany.. how does it come that you let it chart just now?

To be honest i'm not sure how this one will do. I loved the "WILD" EP but the newer track don't do much for me right now
Coldplay's album is really good! I wasn't sure about it at first but i really like it now after a few spins.

Lena just got off my radar out of a sudden... same about Ellie. Just i'm listening to "Holding On For Fire" right now, and i'm usually here for Ellie so she should get stable or even recover a bit soon. Glad to hear "Sorry" grew on you and i agree when it comes to Carrie, especially the amazing "Church Bells" MUST be a single!

That means you got into them again, more or less? That's good!
I'm still digging them too... especially "Last Ride Of The Day", "I Want My Tears Back" and the live version of "Ghost Love Score" (sung by Floor - i prefer her version these days ) are on heavy rotation.

Yes, 52 weeks shouldn't be a problem. But christmas always brings lots of christmas songs, so one never knows
Glad you like Coldplay's comeback! The album is really good... i'm not a big fan of them, that also explains the (weak) success of the "Ghost Stories" era, but "A Head Full Of Dreams" is really good after a few spins and i think this could do better on my charts.

I never cared about "Wie schön du bist" to be honest, until she performed on the best of 2015 edition of the 'ultimative Chart Show' two weeks ago

I like (at least) these this week. Great to see Carrie's new single become a top 5 hit! Interesting 7-month delay for "Wie schön du bist". It charted on my chart in the middle of May (a single week at #29, so it will probably be one of those songs that won't make it on my top 200 YEC, but I'll have another song in German much higher!).

I just listened to Maria Mena's album and it was better than I expected from your comments. A couple of songs (didn't catch their titles but will listen again tomorrow) even reminded me of Emmelie de Forest (in a good way, i.e. not of "Hopscotch"). Will listen to Troyes album tomorrow. In fact, I think I'm going to check all your older charts for potentially interesting 2015 albums I still haven't heard. I'm planning to make a run at breaking my decade-old record in number of songs from a single year in my database; can't believe I still need 300 more songs to beat 2005... And I'll try and do this without dropping the quality requirements (too much).

YAS for CL. What a TUNE.

Good For You, Your Type and Used To Love You are 3 of my favourite songs of 2015 so its great to see them charting!

    Happy birthday!

Lovely to see Hello climbing to #2 again.

Solid debut for Coldplay's latest Album. I'm actually a fan but I wasn't hyped for this release and was too lazy to buy it. Since it wasn't on Spotify I hadn't listened to it until yesterday when I bought the CD finally. It's a great Album probably stronger than Ghost Stories, I think.

Yes, I quite like some of Nightwish's songs, but I wouldn't call me a stan

Great to see the Julie Bergan song entering AND climbing

Late debut for Sarah Connor I quite liked the song when it came out.

Good to see the Coldplay album debuting. I quite like the title track and "Hymn For The Weekend", I need to listen more to it, though.

Just listening to the Marina Kaye song "Homeless" It's great! I already knew it from the radio probably... I never knew who she is and who sang it. Unfortunately, just this one song is on Spotify :(

Glad you like lots of entries! Yes, Carrie's delivering lately, even if there are some better tracks on the album.
I never cared for "Wie schön du bist" so far (and it also wasn't a big hit in Switzerland like it was in Germany, so i never heard it in the radio). But i watched a german chart show ~3 weeks ago where they presented the Year-End Charts and Sarah sang this song, which is the reason why it finally entered the charts & now it's growing on me more and more!

Good to hear you liked it. I still think it's disappointing especially compared to her last three albums which were all great. "Growing Pains" will probably flop on my charts, which is sad as i usually love Maria (as a person and as a singer, she's so sympathetic!). Wow, so you need to listen to over 300 songs in this year?

Don't worry, i also guess there are some songs which aren't for everyone, like the ones by Nightwish.
Please let me know what you thought about them if you got the time to check some out

Glad you like CL's song, it's really good and i love the video
Also good to hear you like these other songs

    Thank you

Glad you like its success on my charts
I didn't like it as much as i liked their last two albums, but after a few spins "A Head Full Of Dreams" grew on me and now i think it could become my favorite album by them (i only know and own "Mylo Xyloto", GH and that one though). Definitely a great record!

    Glad to hear that!

It'll fall again this week as i didn't listen to it that often, but it's definitely a good discovery, so thanks a lot for the recommendation!
I never cared for it but due to the 'ultimative Chartsshow' i finally started to like "Wie schön du bist" and now it's also growing on me...

I spinned the album several times and now i like it a lot, so maybe it'll be the same for you. But "Hymn For The Weekend" is also one of my faves of it
Oh yeah i forgot about that. It's a shame her music (apart from "Homeless") isn't available outside of Belgium/France/Switzerland :(

It didn't sound as good on the second listen unfortunately. It's still a rather pleasant album but I don't think it has any standout tracks strong enough to reach my chart. She didn't have much success with me before either despite that fact that I always liked her voice.

Well, technically I wouldn't have to actually listen to beat my old record, just find the songs and enter them into my database (which is quite a bit of manual work). But because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to not listen I still plan to do that as well. Since I wrote that I've already found 190 more songs, so only around 110 to go. But I have 350 that I haven't listened to yet. Obviously there will be many good songs that won't be able to do themselves justice this year, but if I happen to find something amazing there is still enough time to at least reach the top 200 on my YEC. In 2007 I didn't discover my most played new song for the year until December 14th! (but it only needed around 400 plays to win, which might not even be enough to reach the top 10 this year).

    @ Magnus:
Well i guess that's okay when it comes to Maria. Her drop on my charts will be horrible!

Ah okay i got it now! That's easier to achieve than actually listen to them, but still sounds like a lot of work...
But when you've already found more than half of the songs, it should be easy to achieve that total until the end of the year.

thanks so much for all comments

    week 51/2015 – 17 december 2015 Ghost of a Rebel Heart

    • Singles Top40

Casting artists from a german casting show rarely get some attention on my charts, despite the fact that i really like to watch a few of them. This changes this week, as a contestant of a german casting show makes a stellar debut at number one. It’s Jamie-Lee Kriewitz, the 17 year old contestant from The Voice Of Germany, who will battle against three other contestants in the grand final today. Unlike in other countries, the songs from her earlier performances on the show aren’t on iTunes so „Ghost“ is the first release from her and now also her first chart topper. It also got played nearly 100 times since i downloaded it last friday, which gives this one of the best debuts for weeks if not months. Violinist Lindsey Stirling is the unlucky one in that surprising top debut, as she misses to score a fifth consecutive top hit with the christmas single „Hallelujah“, but still gets the seventh consecutive Top2 peak as she debuts at #2. Nightwish’s „Élan“ is down 1-3 in its 44th week.

There are another three new entries and also three re-entries on the charts. And despite christmas is coming in a week, only one of these six songs is a christmas song. Madonna just had her swiss concert on saturday and two songs of her latest album „Rebel Heart“ are making a comeback this week. „Ghosttown“, which is not on the usual setlist but got performed in Switzerland, got a huge push as it’s back at #9. It was also one of the highlights of the evening. The lead single „Living For Love“ makes a good comeback as well as it re-enters the charts at #23. The last re-entry is „Ensemble“ by the Migros Ensemble at #38, a charity christmas single sung in the four official languages of Switzerland. Grimes makes her debut on my singles charts as „Flesh Without Blood“ enters the charts at #12. Her newest album called „Art Angels“ also makes its entry on the album charts this week. „Leichtes Gepäck“ by Silbermond at #27 and Psy’s comeback called „Daddy“ at #28 are the last two new arrivals on this weeks chart.

Adele leaves the Top3 for the first time after seven consecutive weeks, as „Hello“ descends 2-4. Fellow british musicians Coldplay get a new peak with „A Lifetime Of Adventure“, as their new single improves 11-5 and ties „Princess Of China“ (2012) as their second highest peaking single ever, only behind „Paradise“ which debuted and peaked at #4 over four years ago. Justin Bieber’s „Sorry“ is down 3-6, followed by Carrie Underwood’s „Heartbeat“ (5-7) and Selena Gomez‘ „Same Old Love“ (6-8). The last entry in the Top10 belongs to CL, who is down 4-10 with „Hello Bitches“.

Nightwish’s „Ever Dream“ drops out of the Top10, but remains pretty stable in its third week compared to other older tracks by the group (7-11). After a great ten weeks chartrun, Zara Larsson and MNEK also leave the Top10 for the very first time as „Never Forget You“ decreases 9-13. Sarah Connor scores a late Top20 entry with „Wie schön du bist“, which goes up 23-14 after the delayed entry a week ago. Also up into the upper half is Jaël, who climbs back up 24-17 with „In Love Again“. There are also several big drops on the charts. Inna is going down ten places with „Yalla“ (15-25), Nightwish experiences two big drops as both „Nemo“ (19-34) and „Sleeping Sun“ (20-39) are both having a big fall, but Maria Mena is having an even bigger drop with her current single „I Don’t Wanna See You With Her“. While the song re-entered the charts with a new peak due to the album release a week ago, the single tumbles 13-36 now and is very likely to become her first entry ever to miss a Top10 peak.

Sarah Connor’s „Wie schön du bist“ is the biggest climber while Maria Mena’s „I Don’t Wanna See You With Her“ is the biggest loser this week.

    • Album Top20

Madonna makes a re-entry on top of the Album Top20 with „Rebel Heart“ due to her concert in Switzerland last saturday. It becomes the sixth album to spend at least three weeks on top of the charts this year, with five of them spending exactly three weeks at #1 so far. It didn’t look too well for her at first, as i didn’t enjoy the concert that much, but the high re-entry was still possible due to heavy rotation of the album and due to the fact that this wasn’t a busy week overall.

Adele slips back down 1-2 with „25“, followed by Coldplay. Their new album „A Head Full Of Dreams“ makes a surprising leap as it’s up 6-3, tying the previous release „Ghost Stories“ as their highest peaking album now. Marina Kaye stays surprisingly stable with „Fearless“ (3-4), followed by the first and only new entry of the week. Canadian singer Grimes recently released her new album called „Art Angels“, which becomes her first appearance on my album charts at #5 this week. Nighwish are down 2-6 with „Endless Forms Most Beautiful“, and Troye Sivan falls 4-7 with „Blue Neighbourhood“ in its second week. Irisih singer Enya is back up into the Top10 with „Dark Sky Island“, as the record improves 14-8. It previously debuted and peaked at #5 three weeks ago. The swiss artists Jaël and Anna Rossinelli fill out the Top10 with their albums „Shuffle The Cards“ (10-9) and „Takes Two To Tango“ (8-10).

While Selena Gomez tumbled lots of positions a week ago, her current album „Revival“ recovers again and is back up 18-11. She already released a teaser to her upcoming third music video „Hands To Myself“, which will most likely be a big hit in 2016. Carrie Underwood’s „Storyteller“ keeps on climbing again as well, as it’s up 17-14. Finnish singer Tarja is back on the charts with „Ave Maria - En plein air“ at #12, which has a shot of going to number one next week as i just attended her christmas concert yesterday.

There’s one last thing worth a mention, but it’s a negative one. Maria Mena already had a weaker-than-usual debut with her seventh studio album „Growing Pains“ last week, as her last two albums debuted at #1. The album sees a horrible drop this week though and is about to become a complete flop as it crashes down 5-20.

Gwen deserves some success with that new song, i'm happy you like it too! "Rebel Heart" is really good and "Ghosttown" should have been a big hit for her
I am a fan of some of the new christmas songs like the ones by Ariana Grande or Kelly Clarkson. There were 9 christmas songs in the Top40 during the christmas week last year. But i'm not in the mood of listening to christmas music so far, no idea why. Maybe this will change soon and there'll be some (more) entries next week

Concert effect for Madonna. But both song and album are so underrated by the general public, should have been more successful in 2015!
    I kinda got over it...

Nice to see Grimes finally enter your charts!

Was going to buy the CD today but changed my mind when I saw it didn't even come with a booklet :-?
