"How Long" is quite good and i think i even prefer it to "Attention" which never really clicked with me. However, even "How Long" is not as good as most of the stuff from his debut album IMO...

Yes, i'm still a lot into "Praying" and it's the track which wakes me up every morning, so i hear it daily...

week 44/2017 – 2 november 2017 from Wolves, Fairies and Tannenbäumen

• Singles Top40

Several big new songs arrive inside the Top40 as expected, with a few of them doing as well as expected, and a few of them being new all time lows for artists who used to do better. The top debut goes to Selena Gomez, who has released “Wolves” with EDM producer Marshmello as the follow-up to her hits “Bad Liar” and “Fetish”, and she immediately gets her 13th top hit with it. “Wolves” is Selena’s 23rd entry overall, and becomes the very first notation for Marshmello. She’s followed by Lindsey Stirling, who already debuted atop the album charts with her Christmas album “Warmer In The Winter” a week ago and now also makes it onto the singles chart with one of its songs, as she released a video for “Dance With The Sugar Plum Fairy” (#2). Tarja makes the Top3 complete, as she arrives at #3 with “O Tannenbaum”, the second single of her upcoming Christmas album. And here’s the first all time low, as Tarja always reached the top spot on the singles charts with all of her previous chart entries, so if “O Tannenbaum” won’t make it to the top, her perfect ratio will be broken.

Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie were also one of the expected big arrivals of the week, so it’s not a big surprise to see them entering the Top5 as well. Their new single is called “Rebirth” and makes it to #5 as the first song of their upcoming new metal album, which will be released next year. It’s their third entry in total, following this years “Lvgvs” (#1) and “Epona” (#2) from their acoustic album “Evocation II: Pantheon”. Just outside the Top10 arrives “I Miss You”, the newest release by Clean Bandit featuring Julia Michaels. Following a not so successful debut album, Clean Bandit have now collected three Top3 entries in a row with “Rockabye”, “Symphony” and “Disconnect”, so the expectations for a new release is quite big, and as for now, “I Miss You” can’t really hold on to that with its #13 debut. A spot below is yet another new arrival with Bebe Rexha’s and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant To Be”. Last but not least when it comes to Top20 arrivals, Loreen is one of the artists who scores an all time low with the new single “Hate The Way I Love You”. The song enters the charts at #19 as her very first notation ever to miss a Top10 debut, however it’s already her sixth chart appearance in this year alone, bringing her total chart entries to 13, the most for any ESC artist.

There are still four new entries to go, and also three re-entries. Norwegian DJ and producer Alan Walker has released a new song called “All Falls Down”, together with Noah Cyrus and Digital Farm Animals, and it debuts at #26. Arch Enemy are also back on the chart with the song “The Race”, the third single of their number one album “Will To Power” (#28). Pitbull & Fifth Harmony arrive at #35 with their collaboration “Por Favor” while “Room For Love” is the last entry for Melanie C at #38. Two of the three re-entries are back on the charts due to new album releases, and that are “Flawless” by Eliane (#16, reaching a new peak) and “Love So Soft” by Kelly Clarkson (#37). Meanwhile, the third and last re-entry is “Never Forget You” by Zara Larsson and MNEK, which comes back for yet another chart life at #33 and is likely to climb next week due to her concert later today.

The rest of the best: Marina Kaye’s “Something” drops 1-4, Rita Ora’s “Anywhere” slips 5-6 followed by Tarja’s “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (3-7), The Dark Element still own two Top10 entries with “Dead To Me” (2-8) and “My Sweet Mystery” (4-9), while Rachel Platten’s “Perfect For You” closes the Top10 (7-10).

Noah Cyrus’ “Again” (8-11), Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” (6-12), P!nk’s “What About Us” (9-15) and Shania Twain’s “Poor Me” (10-17) all fall out of the Top10. There are even some bigger drops a few spots lower though, with “Merci quand même” by Marina Kaye dropping 14-23, “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato falling 16-25, “How Long” by Charlie Puth going down 18-27, “The Dark Element” by the band with the same name decreasing 20-32, “Younger Now” by Miley Cyrus drowning 25-34, “Gorgeous” by Taylor Swift tumbling down 12-39 and “Bedroom Floor” by Liam Payne crashing 15-40. Other than these drops, there’s not a lot going on, as there are no new certifications for a second week in a row now.

There’s always a first time, and this week it happens for the very first time since I’m tracking biggest climbers and losers that there’s actually no biggest climber, as no song on the chart climbs one or more positions. There is however an obvious biggest loser with Taylor Swift’s “Gorgeous”.

• Album Top20

Four albums are new on the Album Top20, and all of them are in the upper half as expected, with one of them taking the lead quite easily, and that’s Rachel Platten’s “Waves”. The singer debuts at number one with her new album, which already becomes her second chart topping entry following her major-label debut “Wildfire”, which spent the first three weeks of 2016 atop the charts. “Waves” was preceded by the hit singles “Broken Glass” and “Perfect For You”.

Who were the other three debuts? Swiss Got Talent winner Eliane has released her fourth studio album “Slow Motion”, which is expected to become her fourth Top5 entry in Switzerland next week, and now also becomes her very first notation on my charts at #4. She’s followed by fellow Swiss musician Jaël and her new album “Orkestra”, which enters the charts at #5 as her third entry following “Shuffle The Card” (#3, Gold) and “Acoustic” (#2). Last but not least, original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson finally returns with her newest set “Meaning Of Life” at #7. It’s her fifth chart entry on the album charts since they started back in 2010, and all previous four albums got certified with Gold and peaked inside the Top5, so this debut is very underwhelming so far.

While Marina Kaye was defeated by Lindsey Stirling a week ago, it’s the opposite this time, as Marina Kaye remains at #2 with “Explicit” while Lindsey is down 1-3 with “Warmer In The Winter”. P!nk’s “Beautiful Trauma” falls 3-6, Miley Cyrus’ “Younger Now” drops 4-8, Eluveitie’s “Evocation II: Pantheon” stays at #9 while Shania Twain’s “Now” closes the Top10 (6-10).

Zara Larsson’s “So Good” dips 10-11, but is already set to return to the upper half as she will give her concert in Switzerland today. Niall Horan’s “Flicker” (5-12), Demi Lovato’s “Tell Me You Love Me” (7-13) and Sunrise Avenue’s “Heartbreak Century” (8-15) all leave the upper half as well.

I'm not sure whats happened with Clean Bandit because they have been one of the most successful acts in my chart up until the glorious Symphony topped my chart for 5 weeks. Then along came Disconnect which i liked but didn't love, and now there's I miss you which i also like but don't love, and i can't see this getting near my #1 at all. I suppose every act goes through peaks and dips. I hope Clean Bandit revert back to their pure pop ways with the next single.

This low entry doesn't surprise me as the song itself is incredibly lacklustre. Safe to say this won't be anywhere near my top 20 today. If i did a top 40 it wouldn't even be a contender. Disappointing song, but i suppose Loreen is trying to move away from pure pop which is such a shame. :(

It looks as if i like this track more than you then. It's looking set to enter my chart today although granted it's unlikely to reach the top 10.

I love how Emma and Geri appear in the music video along with all those fans. I think its a sweet sentiment and it has a chance of scraping into my top 20 but like Pitbull's track it won't be a high new entry.

It definitely is <3 Oh, they ARE my favorite starters to be honest. It’s just like a perfect trio and it’s always hard to choose one of them, while in other generations it’s often quite easy to pick one for me. I loved watching the Pokémon Anime years ago, though picking a female Chikorita had nothing to do with Ash’s one. It just doesn’t make sense as a male to me as it looks 100% female, doesn’t it? Ah yeah that was always annoying, which is also why I never used the ones which had to be traded to evolve as part of my Teams… Yes, Ledian has many arms, and Comet Punch is a punch-move as well and I always saw this as his typical move… plus it’s able to get Mach Punch as well in later generations.

Mareep is SO much better than Rattata Anyways, I didn’t play since last week, so I’m not much further…

Congrats! Oh, Slugma sounds interesting. I had it in my Team for one playthrough many years ago, don’t even remember in which game exactly, I think it was in Ruby, and it was really cool. Magcargo has some really cool moves!

The Gen II starters really are such a solid group (and the nostalgia factor definitely doesn't hurt!) Do you know which trio would come in second place for you? Or last? Ha, yeah, I can see what you mean about Chikorita (well, that whole line/family.)

Yeah, it's one of the very few Pokémon that learns "Rock Slide" in Gen II without breeding (since it lost its TM status), which is really useful and provides nice coverage with "Flamethrower." I just beat Brock/Rocko yesterday, so now there's only two Kanto Gym Leaders left. I'm not sure if i'll bother grinding to take on Red - but either way, the timing should work out pretty perfectly with Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon coming out next Friday!

Oh wow, five years already? I still remember that so well… 2012/2013 were great years in music IMO. I’m very interested in my thoughts about the album now by myself. I’ll take a listen soon. I still remember that I really enjoyed it back then so it’s kinda weird I forgot most of it.

Entire career

Yes… I was worried about the album but she really got me with it. It’s really sad that she already gave up on the project on her own and she said there will be no more singles, which is very sad. It’s also sad to see the album flopping so much, it already left the Top100 of the Billboard Top200 in its fourth week, what a disaster!

Yeah, I was really shocked to read that too! I knew the album wasn't doing amazing, and "Younger Now" totally flopped as a single, but I didn't realize the album was dropping THAT fast It's already down to No. 175 on the latest Billboard 200! Still, you'd think they'd be willing to film at least one more video or something. Even with its current floppage, it still feels too soon to completely give up on the era (especially since there are some single-worthy tracks left on the album that might stand a chance of being minor hits, at least.)

I agree. “It Ain’t Me” was cute at first but I got over it rather quickly, while I can see “Anywhere” sticking around for much longer. It’s definitely already my second favorite song by her, behind “I Will Never Let You Down”, and there’s a chance it may become THE favorite song. She’s having a great 2017, who would have thought?

Rita's recent turnaround has been a really pleasant surprise. I hadn't been a HUGE fan of hers, but it was still frustrating to watch her second era implode after the success of "I Will Never Let You Down" due to all the Calvin Harris and label drama. She could've easily fallen into total obscurity these past couple years, but she managed to keep her name out there even without an album or big hits and then finally really connect again with her material this year.

Yes I did, but none of them really impressed me so far. Zayn’s chartrun for “Mind Of Mine” was 6-8-13-Out while Harry’s self-titled album did 6-9-15-20-Out, so both are far away from being hits. Niall is definitely the most promising one and his singles are my favorite ones while the album also has some nice songs, especially the collaboration with Maren Morris. Unfortunately, he released during a very busy time, and I can already reveal that he will leave the Top10 this week, but hopefully he will stay on the charts for some more weeks… as it would be undeserved to see him doing worse than Harry and Zayn when I like “Flicker” the most of these three.

I managed to get on my bf's Apple Music family plan last week, so I've given Flicker a few listens. It's definitely a sweet record, and pretty cohesive overall...but, much like Younger Now, there's a lot of really slow songs that fail to hook me (especially that stretch from "Flicker" ---> "You And Me") Besides the singles, "Seeing Blind" is the clear standout (and hopefully the 4th single!), and "Since We're Alone" has caught my attention too. I just wish there were more moments like “Slow Hands”, but the bulk of the album is closer to “This Town” and “Too Much To Ask” (which are still perfectly nice, they just don’t keep me coming back as much.)

Oh true, I didn’t even think about that yet, but its drop on the US Hot 100 this week is really shocking (10-25). The album release effect should revive it though.

Now it's down No. 25 -> No. 34 on the latest Hot 100, so I really hope that album rebound effect happens too - otherwise it'll be out of the Top 40 in its 12th week, which is INCREDIBLY bad for a No. 1 hit (especially given how much streaming has generally slowed the chart down overall.)

Aww, i'm actually happy seeing this #1 here as i know you adore Selena. I still think this is a great song, not as strong as It ain't me or Fetish but not far behind them either. Definitely going to climb up in my new chart.

How would you compare it to “Bad Liar”? I liked this a lot in the first week but similar to “Fetish” i got over it quite quickly now. I still hope it shows a better longevity on my charts, as despite going Gold, “Fetish” did poorly for an official single by Selena. “Bad Liar” remains her best song released this year IMO.

2 (NEW) Lindsey Stirling – Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy

So i'm listening to this at the moment and its definitely a unique interpretation of the song. What caught my attention the most was the snippet at the end, what song is that it sounds fun.

I'm not sure whats happened with Clean Bandit because they have been one of the most successful acts in my chart up until the glorious Symphony topped my chart for 5 weeks. Then along came Disconnect which i liked but didn't love, and now there's I miss you which i also like but don't love, and i can't see this getting near my #1 at all. I suppose every act goes through peaks and dips. I hope Clean Bandit revert back to their pure pop ways with the next single.

At first I felt similar with you, but the melody of “I Miss You” has been stuck in my head lately and while it’s definitely their weakest song since “Tears” to me, it’s not as weak as I first thought. So I hope it may similar with you and that “I Miss You” may grow on you

19 (NEW) Loreen – Hate The Way I Love You

This low entry doesn't surprise me as the song itself is incredibly lacklustre. Safe to say this won't be anywhere near my top 20 today. If i did a top 40 it wouldn't even be a contender. Disappointing song, but i suppose Loreen is trying to move away from pure pop which is such a shame. :(

Completely agree! She ALWAYS made my Top10 with ALL of her singles so far, so a #19 debut is really disappointing for her standards, and that’s mostly based on her name alone to be really honest. Its second week will be a disaster, and I’m afraid of the whole album now because “71 Charger” isn’t much better. Really sad to have to wait so long for a new album, being excited about it as the debut was so amazing and then she’s coming with stuff like this :( At least I got the “Nude” EP this year which I liked a lot…

It looks as if i like this track more than you then. It's looking set to enter my chart today although granted it's unlikely to reach the top 10.

Probably… and I’m still positively surprised by the song, despite this not-so-good debut I expected worse due to it being a Pitbull single and he’s been so not for me lately. However, Fifth Harmony’s part is nice and they kinda saved it for me. Glad you enjoy it.

I love how Emma and Geri appear in the music video along with all those fans. I think its a sweet sentiment and it has a chance of scraping into my top 20 but like Pitbull's track it won't be a high new entry.

However she waited way too long with a new single, this could have been a bigger hit on my charts if released months ago. Yeah, it's one of the very few Pokémon that learns "Rock Slide" in Gen II without breeding (since it lost its TM status), which is really useful and provides nice coverage with "Flamethrower." I just beat Brock/Rocko yesterday, so now there's only two Kanto Gym Leaders left. I'm not sure if i'll bother grinding to take on Red - but either way, the timing should work out pretty perfectly with Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon coming out next Friday!

Oh good question… hmm… so I just wanted to try to rank them but gosh, that’s so incredibly difficult! Fifth or Sixth Gen are definitely last place, seventh slightly above them. The rest are sooo hard… because I love them all I think third gen is above fourth as I love all three in the third gen while I’m not a big fan of Chimchar; similar case with the first Gen and Charmander, however the nostalgia effect there is bigger…… and now that I think about it, third is probably even above second so… based on all these thoughts, it must be:

Yeah, I was really shocked to read that too! I knew the album wasn't doing amazing, and "Younger Now" totally flopped as a single, but I didn't realize the album was dropping THAT fast It's already down to No. 175 on the latest Billboard 200! Still, you'd think they'd be willing to film at least one more video or something. Even with its current floppage, it still feels too soon to completely give up on the era (especially since there are some single-worthy tracks left on the album that might stand a chance of being minor hits, at least.)

#175?!?! I only knew the Top Sales position, but that BB position is AWFUL!! Thank god her SNL performance gave a nice boost on iTunes, so it should climb again next week. Also, “Bad Mood” as a single would be a nice pick, it could save the era… and if it wouldn’t, at least they would have tried to save it…

Rita's recent turnaround has been a really pleasant surprise. I hadn't been a HUGE fan of hers, but it was still frustrating to watch her second era implode after the success of "I Will Never Let You Down" due to all the Calvin Harris and label drama. She could've easily fallen into total obscurity these past couple years, but she managed to keep her name out there even without an album or big hits and then finally really connect again with her material this year.

Same! I never cared for her debut album, though one or two singles were quite good. However, I absolutely loved “I Will Never Let You Down” and felt so sorry for her when it comes to the album. It’s nice how she changed things now and has released two bops in a row. I hope she’s already finish with recording her album, a release date in early 2018 would make the most sense now, especially in the UK.

I managed to get on my bf's Apple Music family plan last week, so I've given Flicker a few listens. It's definitely a sweet record, and pretty cohesive overall...but, much like Younger Now, there's a lot of really slow songs that fail to hook me (especially that stretch from "Flicker" ---> "You And Me") Besides the singles, "Seeing Blind" is the clear standout (and hopefully the 4th single!), and "Since We're Alone" has caught my attention too. I just wish there were more moments like “Slow Hands”, but the bulk of the album is closer to “This Town” and “Too Much To Ask” (which are still perfectly nice, they just don’t keep me coming back as much.)

Yay! Finally :cool: I feel you when it comes to “Flicker”, and there are two songs I think are quite boring as well, however it’s quite good overall and definitely much better than Harry’s and Zayn’s debut albums. Yay for “Seeing Blind” as your standout, it’s also the clear one for me <3

Now it's down No. 25 -> No. 34 on the latest Hot 100, so I really hope that album rebound effect happens too - otherwise it'll be out of the Top 40 in its 12th week, which is INCREDIBLY bad for a No. 1 hit (especially given how much streaming has generally slowed the chart down overall.)

Wow, this is a real surprise, because I think the chorus (I’ve been running with the wolves…) is really strong and catchy! Especially the second one, where she’s got a higher voice when she sings ‘to youuuu’… anyways, it won’t be a huge hit on my charts and it’s clearly not as good as like 90% of Selena’s other official singles…

It’s a shame how Rachel is flopping because that way it will probably become more difficult to get new stuff from her, because she’s slowly becoming a real charts force on my charts. “Waves” is another great pop record, and I love the songs you mentioned, and even many more on the album. Especially the first half is so strong IMO. That comparison on “Shivers” makes sense – I didn’t even think about it yet Can’t really say who you hear on “Collide” though…
As for Kelly, the album is solid, but my second least favorite release from her so far, only “My December” was a bit weaker. And since the competition on my charts right now is so incredibly strong, she’ll have a VERY shocking second week… If she'd release "Go High" next year, she may turn things around...

week 45/2017 – 9 november 2017 a concert effect So Good

• Singles Top40

Zara Larsson had her very first concert in Switzerland a week ago, and since she already released several big hits, it’s not a big surprise to see her also getting a quite huge boost through the concert. It is, however, impressive and worth a mention that all songs from her that already made it onto the charts over the last few years are also in the Top40 this week, so her whole discography is back. The highest entry is not a surprising one, as it’s “Symphony” with Clean Bandit, which shoots up 22-1 for a fifth non-consecutive week atop the charts, extending its lead as the longest running number one single of the year. Her never-dying hit and most successful single to date – “Never Forget You” with MNEK – also got a huge boost and rises 33-5, while most recent single “Only You” climbs 29-8. The biggest re-entry goes to “I Would Like”, which re-peaks at #9.

How did her other songs do? “Don’t Let Me Be Yours” also re-peaks by returning to #13, one spot higher than the re-entry position for “Uncover”, which was her very first notation ever over two years ago and gets a new peak now. Her duet with Tinie Tempah on “Girls Like” also comes back in the upper half at #19. Her breakthrough hit “Lush Life” is back at #22, the David Guetta collaboration “This One’s For You” returns to #33, “Ain’t My Fault” makes it to #37 while “So Good” is re-entering at #38. With 11 entries on the singles charts, she ties Rihanna as the artist with the most entries following a concert, though most of Rihanna’s re-entries were in the lower half of the Top40.

There are obviously also some other new but also re-entries on the chart this week, though none of them made a really big impact. Sam Smith’s “Too Good At Goodbyes” is back at #16 due to his album release, while Maroon 5’s “What Lovers Do” (featuring SZA) is new at #32 and Kygo’s “Never Let You Go” (featuring John Newman) is new at #40 following their album releases. Last but not least, Taylor Swift scores her fourth entry from the upcoming album “Reputation” as the promo single “Call It What You Want” debuts at #28. The previous promo single “Gorgeous” already leaves the Top40 after only two weeks.

The rest of the best: Rita Ora gets a new peak for “Anywhere” (6-2), followed by Eluveitie’s “Rebirth” which is improving as well (5-3). Selena Gomez & Marshmello’s “Wolves” already falls 1-4, Marina Kaye’s “Something” dips 4-6, The Dark Element’s “Dead To Me” is up 8-7 while Noah Cyrus returns to the Top10 with “Again” (11-10).

Clean Bandit may be back atop the charts with “Symphony”, but their newest single “I Miss You” is also performing quite well, being about to enter the Top10 in its second week (13-11). The Dark Element’s “My Sweet Mystery” (9-12) and Rachel Platten’s “Perfect For You” (10-15) both leave the Top10 with the first one going Gold this week, which is the first certification for the new project by Anette Olzon, but her sixth song overall to go at least Gold. Christmas is still far away and so it’s not a big surprise to see three Christmas songs also leaving the Top10, it is however quite shocking how big their drops are, as Tarja falls 3-20 with “O Tannenbaum” and 7-30 with “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” while Lindsey Stirling’s “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” falls 2-17.

Despite dropping 15-29, P!nk collects her fourth certified single as “What About Us” goes Gold this week. Loreen also has a new certification, the first one in over two years, as “Ocean Away” goes Gold (31-36). It’s the first song of hers with a certification that didn’t topped the singles charts.

“Never Forget You” by Zara Larsson and MNEK is the biggest climber while Tarja’s “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” is the biggest loser this week.

• Album Top20

Zara Larsson obviously also benefits from the concert effect when it comes to the Album Top20, and despite having several debuts on the charts this week, none of them was a threat for the Swedish hitmaker, and so it’s not the biggest surprise to see her international debut album “So Good” rising 11-1 for a fifth non-consecutive week atop the charts. It’s still the second longest running number one album of the year, as Halsey’s “hopeless fountain kingdom” spent six weeks at number one (14-16 this week). Both are currently very high on the Year-To-Date Chart. Zara Larsson also has another reason to celebrate, as her album goes double Platinum this week.

At first it looked like Sam Smith’s long awaited second album “The Thrill Of It All” may be the only new release to look forward to last week, however it turned out that there are five releases more, and so it happens that there are an incredible six new arrivals on the charts this week, but with just half of them making the Top10. Sam Smith has the highest new entry with “The Thrill Of It All” opening at #3. His debut album “In The Lonely Hour” debuted and peaked atop the charts over three years ago and ended up with a Platinum certification. Maroon 5 have yet to score a big hit on the singles charts, but they still own the second highest debut of the week as their new “Red Pill Blues” opens at #5. That’s a spot higher than what their last album “V” did back in 2014 (#6), despite that one having spawned three Top20 hits, while “Red Pill Blues” hasn’t even spawned a Top30 hit. Australian singer-songwriter and former ESC contestant Guy Sebastian has the third arrival in the upper half as his new set “Conscious” enters the charts at #6. It’s his third entry following “Madness” (#5, Gold, 2015) and “Part 1 EP” (#3, 2016).

The rest of the Top10: Rachel Platten slips 1-2 with “Waves”, while Marina Kaye’s “Explicit” is down 2-4. Lindsey Stirling’s “Warmer In The Winter” drops 4-7, followed by P!nk’s “Beautiful Trauma” (6-8), with Eluveitie’s “Evocation II: Pantheon” closing the Top10. The last entry in the upper half is an unexpected one, as despite all the new entries, Niall Horan still manages to go back up 12-9 with his solo debut album “Flicker”.

Still three more new entries to go… it’s been a while, but Danish singer MØ has finally released an EP called “When I Was Young”. Hits like “Final Song” aren’t on it though, and so its debut at a moderate #12 may not be a surprise. She’s followed by Kygo’s “Kids In Love” (#13), which is already his next new release, only a month after the release of the “Stargazing” EP. Chris Brown’s 48-track set “Heartbreak On A Full Moon” makes a rather disappointing debut as well at #15. There are also some bad news for already charting albums, as there are some quite big drops. The biggest ones go to “Meaning Of Life” by Kelly Clarkson (7-19) and “Orkestra” by Jaël (5-20).

Next week will see the clash of the titans, as new albums by Evanescence and Taylor Swift will fight against the debut album by The Dark Element.

I've always been the same. I do enjoy various music and sometimes by listening to different songs this way makes me appreciate the songs more. I do think listening to a group of similar sounding songs can just turn into a blur where i can't distinguish each individual track.

How would you compare it to “Bad Liar”? I liked this a lot in the first week but similar to “Fetish” i got over it quite quickly now. I still hope it shows a better longevity on my charts, as despite going Gold, “Fetish” did poorly for an official single by Selena. “Bad Liar” remains her best song released this year IMO.

Ohh no i think Bad liar is the weakest song Selena has done all year. :( I think it was just a bit too minimalistic and i was expecting so much more from the track. I found the song rather clunky but it got to #20 in my chart so it clearly had something intriguing about the track, but not enough to enter high.

Oh no The song at the end is called “Christmas C’mon”, features Becky G and is one of three original songs on Lindsey’s new Christmas album – and probably my least favorite of the whole album Here’s a link to an audio video. I’m glad to hear you liked “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” though

Haha no, just Zara with her band. Clean Bandit would have been awesome but also kinda random, I guess. Well, the song is one of the best songs of the year, so even with a crappy performance it was expected to see it rising again due to the concert effect… actually, she really messed up the chorus, but only because she was sick (she lost her voice a few times during the concert… but still made it work very well!)

No, “The Last Time” ft. Gary Lightbody (last single of “Red”) peaked at #36 as her lowest entry so far, it is however her second lowest entry, and despite the album being out now, there’s nearly no chance to see this getting a new peak, unless it gets a full single treatment. I guess you mean “Gorgeous”? It’s hard to choose for me, both are kinda underwhelming…

Actually, I never checked it out until the album came out, which is why it never entered my charts so far Anyway, it’s better than expected, but most likely won’t become a hit for me, as there’s so much coming out at the moment and I enjoy all these other things much more than this… so it’s a similar case with me like it is with you.

Really? I had no idea! He has released a very few good songs but I never fully cared about him to be honest. Maybe there’s some hope left and this may grow on you? It’s not even that bad, however compared to Kygo’s latest releases it’s definitely weaker and I expected better.

Oh good question… hmm… so I just wanted to try to rank them but gosh, that’s so incredibly difficult! Fifth or Sixth Gen are definitely last place, seventh slightly above them. The rest are sooo hard… because I love them all I think third gen is above fourth as I love all three in the third gen while I’m not a big fan of Chimchar; similar case with the first Gen and Charmander, however the nostalgia effect there is bigger…… and now that I think about it, third is probably even above second so… based on all these thoughts, it must be:
3rd > 2nd > 1st > 4th > 7th > 5th > 6th
How would you rank them all?

Yeah, these two moves are really strong and makes Magcargo a great team member for sure That’s good! So you will get one of these (US/US)? Woah, how did Gen III manage to surpass Gen II after all that praise the other week? Has your experience revisiting Silver been THAT unenjoyable? :x HmMmM...for me, it's basically a tie between Gen I and Gen II for first place. Nostalgia is a big factor, but I also like their designs across all the evolutionary stages more than the other starter groups. Ranking gets tricky in the middle, but Gen IV are an easy pick for last place. The only one I really love is Piplup/Plinfa's line. I'm surprised to see you're not a fan of Chimchar, since I thought you said something about loving monkeys before? Infernape/Panferno is fun to use in playthroughs due to its power and speed, but I've never been into real-world monkeys much, so I'm not drawn to the look of that line. Turtwig/Chelast has its charms, but I'd consider it one of the most forgettable starters ever I do appreciate how Gen IV was the first group that all got secondary types, though, since that helps mix things up a bit when they insist on sticking with the Grass/Fire/Water triangle every single gen.

I watched one of my favorite YouTubers stream Odyssey on Twitch, and my bf bought it, so I've messed around with it a little. I like the exploration/sandbox aspect, which it seems to have more than any previous Super Mario game, but I'm still not into (and not even remotely good enough at) the platforming parts to want to own it myself.

Yeah, if you didn't really enjoy SuMo, USUM don't seem to be different enough to have a much better impact on you. I was pretty disappointed to see them go back to the "3rd version" approach of Crystal/Emerald/Platinum after giving us something more worthwhile with B2W2 (and then nothing at all for Gen VI)...but I've never regretted buying a main series Pokémon game, while I've definitely regretted skipping some (I never got Emerald, which I regret even more after they excluded that Battle Frontier from ORAS), so I'm still interested enough to give USUM a chance. There's also still a lot of Gen VII Pokémon and Alolan Forms that I haven't used yet, so this gives me a chance to journey through Alola with them without just replaying SuMo again. I've actually got a new team bred and ready to transfer over from my Sun game (besides the starter, since I'll just keep the one I pick in USUM): Pichu, Alolan Sandan, Alolan Vulpix, Molunk, and Sankabuh.

I planned to do it last thursday (as thursday is usually the day I play ‘random’ albums at work; monday to wednesday I play my Album Top20 while friday is busy with playing new releases…) but I ended up being too excited for the Zara Larsson concert in the evening, so I only played her the whole day maybe tomorrow…

Ah, yeah, the concert effect is a powerful force! I'm actually experiencing it myself right now, since just last night a friend and I decided to buy some cheap tickets to Katy Perry's concert tomorrow!

When you say you play your Album Top 20, does that mean you have a playlist with every track from all 20 albums and play through them in order from No. 1 -> No. 20? Or do you bounce around depending more on your mood at the time than their exact chart ranking?

Same! I never cared for her debut album, though one or two singles were quite good. However, I absolutely loved “I Will Never Let You Down” and felt so sorry for her when it comes to the album. It’s nice how she changed things now and has released two bops in a row. I hope she’s already finish with recording her album, a release date in early 2018 would make the most sense now, especially in the UK.

Same! She has more momentum now than she's had since her debut era, so hopefully a full album isn't far off...

Yeah, its Hot 100 run has turned out to be truly tragic Even if the album effect helps it bounce back for a week or two, it'll probably still end up with one of the fastest falls out of the Top 40 for a No. 1 hit....ever? At least since SoundScan took charge of tracking data in the early 90's, anyway. The only No. 1 hits I can think of that tumbled even faster are the American Idol winners' singles (besides Kelly's), since radio didn't really touch them and the sales were SO front-loaded.

Wow, this is a real surprise, because I think the chorus (I’ve been running with the wolves…) is really strong and catchy! Especially the second one, where she’s got a higher voice when she sings ‘to youuuu’… anyways, it won’t be a huge hit on my charts and it’s clearly not as good as like 90% of Selena’s other official singles…

I might've been a bit too hard on it, since it's been popping into my head more than I expected Especially after Jake encouraged me to check out the cute FaceTime video. I'd still agree about it making less of an impact than MANY of her other singles, though!

Glad to hear you enjoyed another video by Lindsey! And yes, she’s an awesome performer. Do you follow Dancing With The Stars? She’s a contestant on the current season, and she’s doing very well, being one of the last five contestants now. Her tango from two weeks ago absolutely slayed.

She's UNREAL! I've never actually seen the show before, so I didn't realize the performances were so elaborate (with the theme/costumes and everything.) It's crazy how her talents go well beyond already being one of the greatest violinists on the planet...

It’s a shame how Rachel is flopping because that way it will probably become more difficult to get new stuff from her, because she’s slowly becoming a real charts force on my charts. “Waves” is another great pop record, and I love the songs you mentioned, and even many more on the album. Especially the first half is so strong IMO. That comparison on “Shivers” makes sense – I didn’t even think about it yet Can’t really say who you hear on “Collide” though…

As for Kelly, the album is solid, but my second least favorite release from her so far, only “My December” was a bit weaker. And since the competition on my charts right now is so incredibly strong, she’ll have a VERY shocking second week… If she'd release "Go High" next year, she may turn things around...

Yeah, going back to the Carly Rae comparison once again, hopefully Rachel continues to get enough support to record and release as much stuff as Carly has post-"Call Me Maybe." Rachel does talk about how much she loves making music for a living on "Good Life", so I imagine she'd find a way to keep putting out material even if major labels didn't want anything to do with her anymore.

Even Thankful would rank higher? Meaning Of Life would rank near the bottom for me too, but (almost certainly) above that one, at least...

I like Sam Smith's great debut! I hope the album will stick around for a longer period of time. Personally, I haven't found another "Stay With Me" yet but the tracks a quite interesting (lyrically) and I think that one can listen to Sam's beautiful, emotional and soft voice now and then. #longevity

"Anywhere" must be Rita's best song ever. It's a shame she failed with her bathrobe outfit at the EMA's (how uncool!); I would like to start taking her more seriously, though. I hope her upcoming singles will be as listenable as "Anywhere".

"Call It What You Want" is quite...soothing. I had it on repeat for about an hour recently, and the melody was just so gorgeous, I couldn't move to another song. I'll listen to Reputation when she releases it on the streaming platforms (i.e. Spotify).

I've actually got a new team bred and ready to transfer over from my Sun game (besides the starter, since I'll just keep the one I pick in USUM): Pichu, Alolan Sandan, Alolan Vulpix, Molunk, and Sankabuh.

You simply made me think about it, and I didn’t really do that before your question. But last week when I was thinking about all starters, I remembered how much I ADORED the 3rd gen starters and how it was nearly the only Generation where I always wanted to play all three, and where I did multiple playthroughs with all of them. But hey, the 3rd Generation is my favorite one overall to be fair.

Ah yes, I love monkeys, which also surprises me that I never liked Chimchar. But it’s one of the few ones I never played with to be honest, maybe I should do it once to see if I can change my mind about it. Since I’m usually picking the plant starters, I also had my playthroughs with Turtwig and I always loved it, but I also love penguins (my favorite animals back when I was a child) and so I also loved Piplup, so it’s two good ones and one bad one, which makes the whole fourth Generation still quite good when it comes to Starters… I’m quite surprised you rank the newest Generations higher than the fourth

Ah okay. Well, I still haven’t got it yet. And slowly I’m starting to really think about if I actually should buy it or not, because right now I’m not that interested in it

Ah, yeah, the concert effect is a powerful force! I'm actually experiencing it myself right now, since just last night a friend and I decided to buy some cheap tickets to Katy Perry's concert tomorrow!

When you say you play your Album Top 20, does that mean you have a playlist with every track from all 20 albums and play through them in order from No. 1 -> No. 20? Or do you bounce around depending more on your mood at the time than their exact chart ranking?

The second thing is the case… I don’t have a playlist, I just play them in a random order, usually with the ones I’d like to play the most. Usually it’s possible to get everything done from monday to wednesday… like, I work the full day on monday & wednesday and only in the morning on tuesday, so I play the Album Top20 in every morning and usually my Singles Top40 in the afternoon on monday & wednesday. Sometimes there’s enough time to play a few albums more than once, but sometimes it’s also the case that I don’t play all 20 albums, like this week. I only have played half of the Top20 so far and it’s already wednesday, simply because I get stuck on one album and want to play that one over and over again Plus I arrived at work very late on all days

**Hug** I can imagine your own place feeling really lonely sometimes after sharing your home with someone else for so many years. The freedom and total control aspects are pretty awesome...but not having anyone there when you want/need somebody has to be a tough adjustment. Shaking off/moving past everything from a relationship that lasted as long as your last one is no minor adjustment. Thank you. Yeah, well, I just realized that I don’t really want that freedom and total control… I want something ‘cheesy’ like going up with the person you love every day, coming home with him, going to the grocery shop and easy stuff like this But hey, here’s hope I get there again one day. Oh, well, it was very complicated at first and I won’t go too much into details, but we met us for a drink two weeks ago and a week ago he even came over to my place for a very short visit (to smoke a cigarette ). So we at least can talk to each other and see us without beating the other one down or so The interesting thing for me is, despite being together with him for so long, I moved on completely when it comes to feelings. Like, there are no feelings left at all. I didn’t expect this to happen so fast… But it’s obviously better that way, at least for me…

Yeah, its Hot 100 run has turned out to be truly tragic Even if the album effect helps it bounce back for a week or two, it'll probably still end up with one of the fastest falls out of the Top 40 for a No. 1 hit....ever? At least since SoundScan took charge of tracking data in the early 90's, anyway. The only No. 1 hits I can think of that tumbled even faster are the American Idol winners' singles (besides Kelly's), since radio didn't really touch them and the sales were SO front-loaded.

This week looks much better, I think it went 34-37 iirc. And it should rise again next week due to the album release, so its chartrun may look slightly better now. But yeah, it’s still quite sad how fast radios let it go…

I might've been a bit too hard on it, since it's been popping into my head more than I expected Especially after Jake encouraged me to check out the cute FaceTime video. I'd still agree about it making less of an impact than MANY of her other singles, though!

Yeah, going back to the Carly Rae comparison once again, hopefully Rachel continues to get enough support to record and release as much stuff as Carly has post-"Call Me Maybe." Rachel does talk about how much she loves making music for a living on "Good Life", so I imagine she'd find a way to keep putting out material even if major labels didn't want anything to do with her anymore.

Even Thankful would rank higher? Meaning Of Life would rank near the bottom for me too, but (almost certainly) above that one, at least...

I hope so too, though Rachel’s new album was a huge flop, while Carly’s “Emotion” still did pretty ‘well’. But to be fair, she already released stuff prior “Fight Song” and her major label deal, so maybe if she gets dropped again by the label, she will still release under a small(er) label or on her own. I’d wish her to do that, so far she has released two albums full of great pop tracks.

Ah sorry, no. I never heard “Thankful”, so I can’t compare that one to her other albums. So second least fave without “Thankful” – I only liked “My December” less, but it still was not bad, and it contains “Never Again”, one of her best singles IMO

Zara’s concert was on a thursday so you could say she had a full week of concert effect, which probably also explains why she’s so successful this week (or last week). She already will fall a lot on tomorrow’s update, while Rita will definitely stick around for a bit longer with “Anywhere”, as I still love it a lot. However, the competition is not sleeping, so #1 will be VERY tough to reach for Rita…

Yay, that’s good news! It’s a really good song, though it kinda suffers from being released during a busy time when it comes to my own charts. But it’s also one of my faves from her and I agree, she’s not afraid there, which is very cool.

I like Sam Smith's great debut! I hope the album will stick around for a longer period of time. Personally, I haven't found another "Stay With Me" yet but the tracks a quite interesting (lyrically) and I think that one can listen to Sam's beautiful, emotional and soft voice now and then. #longevity

"Anywhere" must be Rita's best song ever. It's a shame she failed with her bathrobe outfit at the EMA's (how uncool!); I would like to start taking her more seriously, though. I hope her upcoming singles will be as listenable as "Anywhere".

It will be tough for him to stick around very long & high up on my charts right now as there's a lot going on with lots of debuts i'm really looking forward to. Also, the album didn't click with me yet as much as his debut did. He'll obviously do better than someone like Kelly Clarkson though... but i'm not too sure if he can repeat the success of his debut at this point

"Wolves" has actually been a song I'm revisiting quite a bit. I know it's nothing overly special, but it's a really pleasant listen.

I just heard "Too Good at Goodbyes" at the supermarket a few hours ago. It's not bad, but "Pray," and "Him" are definitely superior.

"Call It What You Want" is quite...soothing. I had it on repeat for about an hour recently, and the melody was just so gorgeous, I couldn't move to another song. I'll listen to Reputation when she releases it on the streaming platforms (i.e. Spotify).

Glad you like that climb! Already nice to know that we share one of our favorite songs this year I've played it quite a lot again lately and i still love it so much. The intro, the first few seconds, are always sooo good and makes me feel kinda nostalgic, because when the track came out earlier this year, there was a lot going on in my personal life so i connect "Symphony" to these things, which makes the song even better for me.

week 46/2017 – 16 november 2017 a Dark Synthesis

• Singles Top40

After a week when it was all about Zara Larsson, it’s slowly going back to normality, as the Swedish hitmaker is already falling quite a lot with most of her entries from a week ago. However, there aren’t many new arrivals on the chart, just two to be exact, and both of them were fighting for the top spot. In the end, it’s The Dark Element’s fourth release which made it, and that track is called “The Ghost And The Reaper”. The project by Anette Olzon and Jani Liimatainen has released a video for the song on friday, alongside the release of their self-titled album, and they already get their third number one hit with it, following “The Dark Element” (re-enters at #24, gets certified with Gold this week) and “My Sweet Mystery” (12-9). Only the promo track “Dead To Me” failed to get the top spot, but still peaked at a great #2 (and goes up 7-3 this week). Their closest rival is Within Temptation frontwoman Sharon Den Adel, who has released her solo debut single “My Indigo”, which is way more pop than the stuff she’s doing with her band. The last album by Within Temptation came out nearly four years ago and spawned four Platinum certified singles and one Gold certified single, so the anticipation for a follow-up is very high. The tracks of this weeks Top3 are also the most played songs of the week, with “The Ghost And The Reaper” having over 100 plays and “My Indigo” & “Dead To Me” having around 40 plays.

Zara Larsson goes from having four Top10 hits to one, as “Symphony” is the only one which remains there (1-5). She’s still having some other entries in the upper half though, with “Never Forget You” (5-13), “Uncover” (14-14), “Only You” (8-16), “I Would Like” (9-18) and “Don’t Let Me Be Yours” (13-20). “I Would Like” even goes Gold this week. Her other tracks which are still charting are “Girls Like” by Tinie Tempah (19-30) & “Lush Life” (22-37), while “This One’s For You” by David Guetta, “Ain’t My Fault” and “So Good” have to leave the Top40.

The rest of the best: Rita Ora’s “Anywhere” falls 2-4, Eluveitie’s “Rebirth” goes down 3-6, Marina Kaye’s “Something” dips 6-8 and Selena Gomez & Marshmello’s “Wolves” already decreases 4-10. Last but not least, Clean Bandit score their fourth Top10 hit in a row as “I Miss You” rises 11-7, becoming also the very first Top10 hit for the featured Julia Michaels.

As mentioned, there are only two new arrivals in the Top40, however there are a lot more re-entries, including some due to album releases. The Dark Element’s album was not the only big release that came out last week, as both, Evanescence and Taylor Swift also released their newest records. Evanescence’s release of “Synthesis” brings “Imperfection” back to the charts (#15), while Taylor’s release of “Reputation” is responsible for the re-entries of “Look What You Made Me Do” (#17) and “…Ready For It?” (#21), with the first one going Gold this week. Taylor even owns a third entry, as “Call It What You Want” is still charting too (28-36). The fifth and last re-entry belongs to Halsey, who makes a rather surprising comeback with “Bad At Love” at #34.

Who would have guessed that Noah Cyrus – Miley Cyrus’ little sister – would have a huge hit this year, and probably even ends up above her sister on the Year-End Charts? Well, exactly this happens, at least the part with having a huge hit, as her single “Again” goes Gold this week (10-11). It’s her very first certification, also for the featured XXXTENTACION. Rachel Platten is another pop singer who is having a great 2017 so far, and this week both of her singles gain some spots, with “Perfect For You” climbing 15-12 and “Broken Glass” going up 34-27. Meanwhile, there are some bad news for Christmas releases once again, as Lindsey Stirling’s “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” plummets 17-38 and Tarja’s “O Tannenbaum” tumbles down 20-39, with her “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” leaving the chart completely. It’s already pretty safe to see these songs having success again nearer to Christmas, and Tarja’s two songs maybe even already next week, as the singer will release her Christmas album tomorrow.

Rachel Platten’s “Broken Glass” is the biggest climber while Lindsey Stirling’s “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” is the biggest loser of the week.

• Album Top20

As expected, the three new albums by Evanescence, Taylor Swift and The Dark Element make a big impact on the Album Top20 this week, with all of them debuting inside the Top3. And while it was expected to see them having a rather strong battle for the top spot, it was quite easy for The Dark Element to win that race with their self-titled studio album. The album generated a massive 300 plays in the last week, and is already the 7th most played album of the year with around 800 plays. “The Dark Element” is not only the first album for that project, but also the first notation for Jani Liimatainen, while Anette Olzon already scored a number one album with her solo debut “Shine” back in 2014, plus another one with “Imaginaerum” in 2011, when she still was part of the symphonic metal band Nightwish.

Funny coincidence, but Evanescence arrive at #2 with “Synthesis”, just on the same position like they debuted with “Evanescence” six years ago and “Lost Whispers” earlier this year. Both of these album rose to the top spot in their second weeks, so it will be interesting to see if “Synthesis” is able to do the same thing. So far, it looks promising, because based on early predictions it was expected to see them only arriving at #3 this week, so they already exceeded these expectations. So, obviously, Taylor takes the third place with her sixth studio album “Reputation”. Her last three albums all debuted atop the charts, with “Speak Now” spending five weeks there and “Red” & “1989” one week each.

Rachel Platten’s “Waves” (2-4) and Marina Kaye’s “Explicit” (4-5) are still doing very well considering the new entries. Meanwhile, after a short visitation back atop the charts, “So Good” by Zara Larsson already falls down 1-6. Sam Smith’s “The Thrill Of It All” drops 3-7, followed by P!nk who stays at #8 with “Beautiful Trauma”, Eluveitie who rises back up 10-9 with “Evocation II: Pantheon” and Lindsey Stirling, who is already about to leave the upper half with her Christmas album “Warmer In The Winter” (7-10).

A fourth and final new entry makes the Top20 this week, and that one belongs to French singer Louane. Her debut album “Chambre 12” was a huge success in Switzerland and France, however it was quite unlucky on mine and peaked at #11. Now, with her second, self-titled studio album, Louane is still very unlucky, as it also arrives just outside the Top10 at #11. Also near to the Top10 is Halsey, who is climbing back up the charts with “hopeless fountain kingdom” (16-12). Similar to last week, there are also some very huge drops on the charts this time, such as “Conscious” by Guy Sebastian (6-13), “Slow Motion” by Eliane (11-19) and “Red Pill Blues” by Maroon 5 (5-20). Kygo’s “Kids In Love” already leaves the Top20 after only one week at #13. Last thing worth a mention is something about Miley Cyrus. While her album “Younger Now” may be stable this week following a few drops lately (14-15), the set goes Gold this week as her fifth album in a row to do so.
