It's alright, but is it good enough for a comeback single? Not sure.

Gabriella Cilmi barely made the chart

I wasn't sure about Indila's new song at first, but it became a huge grower for me. However, it definitely doesn't have the same magic like "Dernière danse" & Co. had.

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of "The Water". It's just ok to me and being ok is currently not enough to make my main chart

So true! I think smartphones played a big role in giving people easier/constant access to media like music, movies, and video games (or watching other people play video games) Now we can enjoy those things basically anywhere, all on the same device (as long as we have reception and battery left) The fact that movies are still grossing so much is really impressive too, and I'm not sure how they're managing that (aside from higher ticket costs/inflation), especially with services like Netflix making it so convenient to watch everything from the comfort of home. The Marvel Cinematic Universe probably deserves a good chunk of the credit there, since it got a lot of people hooked on following every movie they release.

I mean, as we both agreed on, country songs (and as you pointed out also rap songs) are usually much bigger in the US than everywhere else, so considering how big OTR has been everywhere else, it probably could have been expected to see it being such a monster in the US. Anyways... I'm not into charts as much as I used to do at all and my 'favorite countries' changed to Switzerland and Germany, so I'm not really up-to-date with the US charts so I was shocked when I just read that "Bad Guy" is also still #2 (with OTR obviously still leading). I hope they change the rules some day as the charts are way too stagnant these days.
That's pretty understandable. The Hot 100 is SO slow these days, while the UK chart has all of those questionable ACR and number-of-songs-allowed-per-artist rules that give songs very weird chart runs, so I can see why people would lose interest in regularly following those. On the bright side: "Bad Guy" finally made it to No. 1 on the Hot 100, and was promptly replaced by "Señorita," so at least we're seeing some turnover on top again!

It still made it to #6 on My Charts after a while but still ended up as her second least successful single here pre-"Close To Me" ("Close To Me", "Sixteen" and "Hate Me" 'topped' that). If it makes up for it: I can live with it these days and I know this was a very unpopular opinion of mine back then. I still don't really know why I disliked it as much as I did; I couldn't even be happy for its success even though Ellie completely deserved such a huge hit.

Hmm... you just made me thirsty for some Ellie, let me go and listen to some of her tunes now
I LOVED LMLYD, but I can see where you're coming from with those critiques: it was probably Ellie's poppiest single at that point (maybe equal to "Burn"), it sounds like it could've been written/sung by anybody, and many people don't think highly of 50 Shades (the books or movies). It makes sense to feel disappointed when an artist you normally love and respect releases a song that seems mediocre to promote a movie/franchise that you don't care for at all.

Ha, if only I had the power to make you that thirsty for other things too...

But yes, it was just us two together ( ), it was a great time and it felt SO good to have that week completely off from my daily life.
Damn - sounds like that trip got pretty heavy/intense, but you still came out of it OK? I don't want to make you talk about it too much more, but I'm glad everything's still good between you two, and those difficult talks were ultimately for the best.

It wasn't a bad album, it just lacked of several more highlights other than just a few tracks. Speaking of Sam, I don't really remember how his previous stuff did on your charts, so I wonder if you ever checked his albums out?
"Break Free" >>>>> "Stay With Me," so I'm totally fine with that outcome I haven't checked out either of Sam's albums in full, but I have most of his singles in my library. His biggest hits (as the lead) have been:

No. 1 peak | 2 weeks total = "Lay Me Down"
    No. 2 | 8 wks = "Like I Can"
    No. 4 | 8 wks = "I'm Not The Only One"
No. 4 | 3 wks = "How Do You Sleep?"
    No. 5 | 5 wks = "Stay With Me"
    No. 6 | 8 wks = "Restart"
    No. 6 | 3 wks = "Dancing With A Stranger"

    Yes PLZ! Bring. it. on.

Her streak of singles has been very solid so far and I would love to get something more (an album, maybe? But you never know these days...)
I wish! It'd be awesome to get an album from her before the end of 2019, but I wonder if they'll just keep releasing singles until she scores another hit as big as "Sweet But Psycho."

Eh, Blue Lips was a bit of a letdown for me (though it still has some highlights, like "Cycles" and "Hey You Got Drugs?"). I enjoyed Queen Of The Clouds and Lady Wood about equally, though, so I'll definitely give Sunshine Kitty a chance.

Some-times the Bubbling Under chart is kinda tricky; "Body" for example would have even blocked Lindsey on the main chart if it wasn't just an album track. Anyways, Taylor is already releasing another song as a promo single this week plus the third real single is also coming before the album release, so these are exciting times for her fans!
Ah, OK - I'd been thinking of your Bubbling Under chart more like a "not quite good enough, but could enter the main chart soon" list, but after reading what you said above, I'm remembering that you mentioned it's a place for non-singles to shine too.

    • I added your new No. 1 a couple days ago, after you posted that Top 5 teaser in the Parade thread, and I'm LOVING it! It's such a wild, quirky, catchy ride. I'm not familiar with Indila at all, but it seems like a fair number of people on UKMIX already knew of her and enjoyed her debut several years ago.
    • I'm a little surprised by the amount of hype that "Torn" is getting around UKMIX. I do like it, but it's probably my least favorite of the singles/promo tracks she's released after "Sweet But Psycho." Still, if "Torn" helps her avoid going down as a 1.5-hit-wonder on most official charts, I'll be fine with that!
    • Speaking of Ava, I'm SO glad that "Freaking Me Out" got as high as No. 6! People seem very unimpressed with FMO (especially now that "Torn" is out), so reaching No. 6 here feels like a huge triumph.
    • Lovin' the Lover effect! I forgot that "ME!" tumbled straight out of your chart after debuting at No. 20.
    • "Motivation" has been a really pleasant surprise, after both "Love Lies" and "Dancing With A Stranger" were just "alright" for me. I just learned that Ari co-wrote it, so that certainly helps to explain why it's clicked with me so much!
    • Poor "Small Talk," though.

Yet another chart that has a certain je ne sais quoi, Tancel!

Great chart! Love The Swift & Ava Max debuts! It seems that pop is finally coming back! <3

Sam Smith is still holding on well despite all the new releases. "How Do You Sleep?" is still my favourite song atm.
"Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince" is probably my favourite track on the album.. Thus, I'm really glad to see it on your Bubbling Under chart!

"Slide Away" is awesome as well! Great chart!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe probably deserves a good chunk of the credit there, since it got a lot of people hooked on following every movie they release.
True. Plus running out of battery isn't as big of a problem as it was a few years ago. We aren't that old at all but we already experienced such an evolution when it comes to these things, so I'm already excited to see where we are in 10-20 years.
Ah, the inflation for movies is an interesting point, though even without that they are grossing a lot these days and that's really impressive, because going to the cinema is basically something you would think is less popular when everyone is all about social media and streaming things, but somehow it works. I guess people still need something to go out and watching a movie is exactly that, as it basically combines the 'going out' part with our beloved media.

On the bright side: "Bad Guy" finally made it to No. 1 on the Hot 100, and was promptly replaced by "Señorita," so at least we're seeing some turnover on top again!
Every chart seems way too slow and that UK rule is just stupid in my opinion. I get that they want to do something about their chart but it's just ridiculous if a song suddenly falls 2-13 or so even though it's still doing good. But I am very happy about the current turnover on the Hot 100 with "Bad Guy" and "Señorita" - both really deserved to be #1. Now I just hope "Lover" will hit that top spot soon as well

It makes sense to feel disappointed when an artist you normally love and respect releases a song that seems mediocre to promote a movie/franchise that you don't care for at all.

Ha, if only I had the power to make you that thirsty for other things too...
Thanks for understanding. Yes, it didn't feel like an Ellie song, but looking back I really made a bigger thing of this than it was. Because I feel like I could have enjoyed LMLYD a lot actually if I wouldn't have been that stubborn when it comes to Ellie going commercial.

Oh... for what other things for example?

Ah, don't worry, as you probably saw I'm really open about these things. Anyways, sometimes the life is like a video game, you have to go through difficult times or situations to get to the next level, and IMO it's similar in a relationship, sometimes you have to have a difficult chat about things but if you did it, everything's even better afterwards.

No. 1 peak | 2 weeks total = "Lay Me Down"
    No. 2 | 8 wks = "Like I Can"
    No. 4 | 8 wks = "I'm Not The Only One"
No. 4 | 3 wks = "How Do You Sleep?"

    No. 6 | 8 wks = "Restart"
    No. 6 | 3 wks = "Dancing With A Stranger"
Hehe, I already knew you'd be fine with "Break Free" being the reason why "Stay With Me" stopped at #2
Wow, thanks for sharing his biggest hits - he already collected several successful entries on your chart! I guess you haven't missed out too much by only checking out his singles, as they're usually the best songs on his albums so far. Very glad to see "Like I Can" did so well for you as it was my clear standout when I listened to his debut for the first time and was happy he released it as a single afterwards. Surprised "Stay With Me" didn't do better though.

Unfortunately, still no sign about the Amy Lee collaboration. She actually just dropped the title track ("Artemis") as the next single today and a video comes out later today as well. I just hope the Amy Lee collaboration doesn't end up as an album track, as the same already happened with her last album where she had Christina Perri featured on one of the highlights but that song never got a video / release.

Well, we already had similar situations with Dua Lipa, Zara Larsson… I guess that’s how it works these days.

Ah, that’s actually nice to know as Blue Lips also didn’t do that much for me, especially compared to the other two albums. I've read the next single of "Sunshine Kitty" will be released in a week and features Kylie Minogue, so I'm really excited for that one!

Yes. It’s a mixture of both. You could see it as my most popular songs of the week that aren’t on the Singles Top40 because they’re singles but not as good as the 40 on the main chart and album tracks that aren’t allowed for the main chart.

Oh, that’s fantastic news! So glad you’re enjoying it, as I didn’t expect it to be that popular on here. Yes, her debut era was quite popular on UKMix back then and her debut single stayed in the Top10 on the UKMixParade for four weeks. Speaking of it, I’d really recommend you her debut single Dernière danse as it’s still a masterpiece of a song and has one of my most favorite videos of all time. Song and video work so well together and I'm still in love with both.

Yeah, I already saw you posting somewhere that you aren’t the biggest fan of Torn which is rather surprising as you just got (back) into her with Freaking Me Out. Torn is just such a huge guilty pleasure for me and I love the ABBA sample. Hopefully a hit for her
FMO was already a nice surprise for me as well and is currently my second most favorite song from her.

Lover had a big effect on the chart and I have the album on heavy rotation – it was already my most played album of the month on Monday evening, so not even after a full week! It’s kinda sad there are so many albums that I really look forward to with Lana & Tarja today and Lindsey Stirling next week, so Taylor will probably lose the #1 spot after just one week even though I haven’t been so obsessed with her music in a very long time.

To be honest, I was slightly surprised when I saw Normani’s song being your #1. Not because it’s bad though, more because I didn’t see it coming at all! I think Motivation is a good track and I’m glad all oft he 5H girls are delivering good solo material so far. Ah, interesting about Ari being the co-writer, I had no idea!

Poor Katy… the song didn’t click with me at all. But you seem to enjoy it quite a lot, do you?

    Thank you so much

"Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince" is probably my favourite track on the album.. Thus, I'm really glad to see it on your Bubbling Under chart!

"Slide Away" is awesome as well! Great chart!
Thank you! Yes, so happy about Pop finally coming back!

Yeah, Sam is doing really well with "How Do You Sleep?" and I think it may even end up as my most favorite song ever by him. It's just so good and I still hope it becomes a bigger chart hit for him.
Oh "Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince" is currently and by far my favorite song on "Lover" as well, so happy I'm not the only one <3 Fingers crossed it gets a proper single release at some point.

Glad you're also enjoying Miley's new track

<3 I hope you will enjoy her new tune. It probably needs more than just one spin to click though (at least that's been the case with me, and I adored her debut era).

I don't know. She was silent everywhere, didn't post for years on her social media. I guess she's the type of artist who doesn't really want to be in the public's eye and only releases stuff when she's really sure about it. Quality over quantity.

My celebrity crushes : Monika Sedziuviene, Kristina Ivanova (YVA).

Dreamer, you must to visit Lithuania and see/listen a live concert of your YVA strawberries.

I'm as late as never before with posting the new chart

Unfortunately, a lot has changed in my life lately and it looks like posting the chart on the same day every week is more difficult than I expected. So for now, I will simply try to post the weekly update around the weekend without a fixed day. I need to see how I can work this out with my new schedule in real life and hopefully I can have 'that' day again soon.

New chart coming up in some minutes

Thanks for your recommendation! I really like the music, but unfortunately I don't really like her voice (at least not on this song). But she seems quite popular - I mean, she already has a lot of views even though the video just came out.

Thanks for coming by! Really glad you're enjoying my current #1 and also Ava Max' new tune
Aww... a shame you're not that into "Hurt My Feelings" as it gives me major Ariana vibes (from the music, not the voice obviously ).

    3 (NEW) Grimes & i_o – Violence
    Chart Run: *3*- / 1w

I also prefer "Violence" to new Billie Eilish single.

36 (NEW) Skylar Grey – Shameless
    Chart Run: *36*- / 1w

It's alright for a cover. Some Skylar vocal showboating, but not much substance.

Ah, the inflation for movies is an interesting point, though even without that they are grossing a lot these days and that's really impressive, because going to the cinema is basically something you would think is less popular when everyone is all about social media and streaming things, but somehow it works. I guess people still need something to go out and watching a movie is exactly that, as it basically combines the 'going out' part with our beloved me-dia.
Absolutely! The rapid evolution of technology in our lifetime has been incredible. Like the iPod: just 15 years ago, it seemed like mind-blowing, innovative technology (being able to store SO many songs on one portable device), and now they're basically obsolete (replaced by streaming services on smart phones that give us access to millions of songs in our pocket).

Ha, that's a brilliant way of looking at it! Going to the movies means we've at least gotten out of our homes (even if it's just to sit in a different dark room and stare at a different, bigger screen).

But I am very happy about the current turnover on the Hot 100 with "Bad Guy" and "Señorita" - both really deserved to be #1. Now I just hope "Lover" will hit that top spot soon as well
I really hope Tay can score at least one Hot 100 No. 1 this era (both "ME!" and YNTCD came SO close), but it might be tough with "Lover," since the video boost has already happened.

Ha, I love that analogy! So you could say your relationship "evolved" after that trip? Speaking of video games, have you checked out Pokemon Masters at all? The gambling/"gacha" aspect of trying to get your favorite Trainers is definitely problematic, but I think the actual gameplay/battling is pretty fun, and you can finish the main story chapters without paying at all.

Yes! I was so annoyed that they didn't push "Like I Can" harder in the US and only focused on promoting the slower singles from In The Lonely Hour (basically just "Stay With Me," "I'm Not The Only One," and "Lay Me Down"). He can craft some really enjoyable uptempos too, but so many people haven't gotten a chance to hear them.

VERY curious/excited to see how that one does here!

Many thanks for the suggestion! It doesn't make quite as strong of a first impression as "Parle à ta tête," but it's in my library now, so I plan on giving it more chances.

Poor Katy indeed I'm not loving "Small Talk" quite as much as "Never Really Over," but definitely more than most people seem to like it Shame that "Small Talk" is flopping even harder than "Bon Appetit" and "Swish Swish" on most (all?) official charts. Based on her two most recent singles, I guess the under-performance of Witness wasn't a fluke, and people just aren't here for her anymore.

    • Strong Top 3 start for Grimes! "Violence" is probably my least favorite of the three new tracks she's released this year, but it's alright (and it's just a relief to get ANYTHING from her after all the times she's changed her mind about her next album).
    • A bit sad that "Lover" is already falling (but at least it's doing MUCH better than "ME!" or "You Need To Calm Down" managed here).
    • Ah, even with the new Elle King version of "The Upside," "Underground" is still holding up better!
    • Glad to see "Shameless" above "Liar," since I prefer that one too.

Yet another chart that tugs on my heartstrings, Marsike Also, **hug** for all those life changes lately! Hopefully they've been for the better.
