So i caught up with Season 2 Box Set and couldn't wait another year - so all 4 Season 3 so far i just watched!

This is amazing stuff for any medium but for TV it's astonishing. The battle scenes in Season 2 ep 9 were amazing and now Daenarys strikes again - there was not enough of her in 2 and her storyline was rather underwhelming. Hopefully not so now.

And yes i agree she is wonderful and Margaery is great, too - she has ambition but never seems overtly nasty - Natalie Dormer is lovely and was Anne Boleyn in The Tudors - it's like some kind of reward for her fans to see her in a similar character role but with the power roles reversed in her favour!

Maisie Williams is great too as Arya and i get the feeling they don't quite know how to use her as yet (or the book has been chopped?). Somehow some of the characters that were very strong in Season 1 are kind of scattered about as background filling - Robb Stark, the Stark kids, Jon Snow...
Aiden Gillen's Littlefinger is waiting for a second burst, too... :x (watch him in Irish gangster drama series Love/Hate coming to Channel 5 this autumn or online now the same place you can watch GOT illegally! He was also mesmerising in the original UK Queer As Folk - the drama that made his name).

Ygritte is fantastic, too - spunky redhead "Northerner" accented wildling - Rose Leslie gave away a spoiler in Radio Times recent pictorial about her and Jon's upcoming encounters...

In fact, for a fantasy drama, the women are very well drawn and almost all strong characters - apart from the made-for-TV bride of Robb Stark's who doesn't seem to have a purpose yet. And a bit startling to see Hollyoaks' Nathalie Emmanuel as the slave-girl who Daenarys frees! Spotting joker Paul Kaye as Thoros, The Office's Mackenzie Crook as the guy with the all-seeing eyes, two stars of Skins, Joe Dempsie as Arya's friend and the immortally childlike Hannah Murray as the inbred with the baby - and Ben Crompton from Pramface and Ideal!! Who spotted Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody as the Bolton soldier singing while riding a horse? I didn't! Had to rewind! Oh, yeah - Roxanne McKee from Hollyoaks - so sad to see her Doreah go from a likeable slut to a treacherous one. Tara Fitzgerald is still to come!

Tyrion is awesomely cutting and admirable! As the ostensible lead actor Peter Dinklage deserves all the plaudits he's had. As does second billed Lena Headey as Cersei - watch her in Dredd for another supremely nasty bitch performance. Jerome Flynn - who knew??/ who even recognised the Soldier Soldier star/ fly-by-night singer without checking the credits??? Bronn is great and one of those smaller players you would miss if they left.

And a word about the whores. Apart from the surprising and brave casting of actual porn stars (Sahara Knite, Maisie Dee - i know one of those names' regular work, at least ) it's good to see it's a bit less gratuitous than it was in Season 1. Esme Bianco as Ros was wonderful but little used since and Shea's not convinced me as a character worth support as yet - i loved Sibel Kekilli in the Turkish film Head On - she's lightweight in comparison here. The violence is odd - in some scenes in Season 2 they averted the camera, in others it revels in maximum gore close-ups. The scenes involving the witch giving birth to the spirit and the spirit then delivering a swift death out of nowhere seemed oddly out of place or badly paced?

My order of fave characters (currently living): *obviously i mean faves to watch as only a psychopath would actually love Cersei or Joffrey!*

    1. Daenerys Targaryen
    2. Tyrion Lannister
    3. Margaery Tyrell
    4. Arya Stark
    5. Ygritte
    6. Bronn
    7. Cersei Lannister
    8. Lord Varys
    9. Lord Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish
    10. Joffrey Baratheon
    11. Ros
    12. Osha
    13. The Dragons
    14. Olenna (Redwyne) Tyrell
    15. Sansa Stark
    16. The Direwolves
    17. Theon Greyjoy
    18. Catelyn Stark
    19. Jorah Mormont
    20. Tywin Lannister
    21. Brienne of Tarth
    22. Jon Snow
    23. Jaime Lannister (we're MEANT to like him i think but i just can't!)
    24. Sandor Clegane
    25. Podrick Payne
    26. Samwell Tarly
    27. Bran Stark (sorry but maybe he needs a better actor?)
    28. Davos Seaworth
    29. Gilly
    30. Gendry Waters

Iwan Rheon's "Boy" character (the cleaner who freed Theon) - his true identity soon to be revealed (don't look on Wiki!) could be a new entry in future lists (he seems directly lifted from his Misfits role at the mo!) as could the weird boy and girl who Bran has got stuck with.

No, i didn't forget Robb Stark - he's just a cipher to me. Good looking, good actor, but there's just nothing there - hasn't been for 24 episodes.

Margaery is coming across very Kate Middleton at the moment, adored by the public. I hated Sansa for ages as she stuck up for Joffrey which led to that boy being killed but now I'm warming to her.

But you could tell she was torn - she was blindly in love and didn't know or want to know what Joffrey was like - and after a certain point she was just going through the motions to stop herself being killed/ battered by Joffrey.
This stuff was par for the course in The Tudors so i'm used to it!

I must say something about Theon's sister who could also be a great character if they give her more to do other than walking in that irritating swagger and giving him the same condescending smirk in every scene - great line "you're the dumbest c*nt alive".

Yet another fantastic episode, even the little things they do different from the books are flawless.

Haha at Sersei having to marry Loras, that backfired on her!

I totally thought Jaime and Brienne were gonna shag.

Jaime seems like he was being honest about his story, but I just can't trust him :(

    Great episode!

Song at the end is Kerry Ingram (Shireen - Stannis' little daughter): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gZNz6PMzPQ
No credit on Wiki but seems to be called Shadow Song.

Some amazing scenes there - a pivotal one involving Jaime and Brienne ending with a stunning role reversal with her cradling him. Is she an icon for lesbians, i wonder? There's not been a character like her since Xena.

Jon Snow is too good to be true - a virgin who "instinctively" goes down? Really is a fantasy show! I think she was just giving off musty scent, is all! Led by his nose!

Tyrion: "That's cruel, even for you!"
I think he'll treat her well myself. Not sure she'll like the child-bearing.

    Cersei's face afterwards!

And blow me down if Robb Stark didn't do something interesting for once!

Tara Fitzgerald's character - not sure. I don't like any of the Stannis stuff.

I literally laughed out loud when Jon was going down on Ygritte and she was like "You know nothing, Jooooon *moan*".
And was I the only one who wanted Brienne and Jaime to get some?
And I can't believe Sansa made a good decision for once and didn't go with Littlefinger, still I'm curious how Tywin's whole plan will unfold.
Can't believe we're already halfway through the season. :(

I wish I could get into the books! They'd just be like extra long detailed episodes. Can't get enough of this series!

Holy crap! Ros is dead! Joffrey you c*nt! *note - i removed the spoiler at 10:15 after UK broadcast*
WTF?? What a random fleeting way of showing it.

Bit annoyed they didn't show the scene where Tyrion had to explain that to his two ladies but i see the artistic reason for it.
And at the end we get Littlefinger flipping his much-maligned "sexposition" with a scene-setting but equally non-essential over-the-top monologue.
Surprised he didn't quote Miley Cyrus!

Joffrey has to be one of the most sadistic characters ever on a television screen.

On reflection, her death wasn't so random - Littlefinger was explaining to Varys how he knew about Ros being his spy - so in some way he ensured or knew that Joffrey would kill her, meaning he had one over on Varys in the power game.
But it was still a shock and a fleeting moment for such a featured character - a lot of fans hated her irrationally because she wasn't in the books but she was a composite substitute for numerous other characters just to simplify it for TV as we already had far too many characters to remember as it was! I thought she was played very well and displayed something more than just her body - she was much more convincing / interesting than Shae.

And Littlefinger's monologue would have been taken from his chapter in the book, i presume? Obviously, it had to be used in a more dramatic sense for TV as they don't adapt it like the books play it. But still... the ep title The Climb and the over-egging made me laugh!

It's a brief scene towards the end of episode 6. Joffrey is in his room holding a crossbow and then the camera shows Ros' dead body strung up by the wrists, with many arrows in her flesh.
