Hey y'all! I'm just postin' up my review of the album I sent into UKMIX. It don't seem to have been put up, which is cool, just thought anybody who was thinking about buying it would want a different perspective.

So anywayz, this is my review of "After The Storm"...

    ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

During the almost unbearable wait between 1998's "The Boy Is Mine" and 2003's "After The Storm", Monica grew up. She's now a woman, in control of her life, and for the first time, her career. Her voice is as soulful and classy as it always was only now, she's more self-assured. She's even got into writing and producing her own material and with close guidance from Clive Davis and Missy Elliott has extended her artistry to new levels. Musically, Monica was never a trendsetter - more of an edgier, better-styled improvement of already tried formulas, and she proves this again, here.

"So Gone" featuring Missy is the first track lifted from the album and became Mo's first really big hit this millennium. It's Miss E-influenced, sample-laden backing intertwined with Miss Thang's gentle vocals sent this album right to the top of the Billboard charts upon initial release. Fans of old were glad to have Monica back and new listeners were eager for more. Thankfully, "After The Storm" delivers.

Whether it's club bangers or intimate slow jams, Mo hits the mark everytime. Her voice is never strained, nor does she oversing her songs - her soul-drenched vocals are pitch-perfect and sung with conviction - especially on the album gem "I Wrote This Song" where Monica reveals a side to herself few knew about. Elsewhere on the LP, the stylish "Get It Off", slick "Ain't Gon Cry No More" and sultry "Go To Bed Mad" (with Tyrese) spotlight Mo's growing up, musically and personally.

Even though the title is clichéd, the music is not. If you listen closely, her words ring true. She's documented her journey of self-discovery with "After The Storm", voicing it with sleek modern R&B that she seems right at home with, and it's Monica's personal and professional best.

Best track: I Wrote This Song, So Gone
    Worst track: The intro!
    Baaaaad relationship??

Good Review, but I thought the Intro was brill, one of the best Intro's on an album.

But her best album is defo 'All Eyez On Me'

You are so wrong. Her best album is her first album. All Eyez on Me was not even an official album.

I persoanlly thought her first album was her weakest album out of them all.

my top 4 looks like this

1 All Eyez On Me (Every single song is superb, slow and fillers, superb is the only word to describe it)

2 The Boy Is Mine (Brill Album with amazing songs)
3 After The Storm (Excellent album with loads of banging tunes)

4 Miss Thang(Has some weak tracks, but overall GOOD)

This album had that sass, not hood, and it made the music real. TMOM had that element to but it was not represented well by the first single choice.

I feel like this was supposed to be her classic album but it was just ok to me. The first half is amazing but the second half falls a bit. I Wrote This Song is such a sad song though...I get goosebumps everytime I listen to the end of it.

It's weird because all of Monica's album are good, but that it, they're just good. She doesn't have that critically acclaimed album that her peers have (such as Usher's Confessions, Brandy's Full Moon/Afrodisiac, Aaliyah's last album).

I think The Makings Of Me could've been it if it wasn't for that horrid ass first single. Well, atleast it's my top fav from her...but I guess some consider Still Standing as that magnus opus of her so...

Totally agree. And I think that's ultimately why she doesn't have the props that some of peers have. She's a phenomenal vocalist, and has some real gems in her discography but non of her albums have been a real wow moment or "classic R&B album"

I have to say I agree with this. She always has a few great songs but can't seem to make a strong cohesive album.
