Because singles, especially viral hits like Thrift Shop, go up fast in the UK: It's not uncommon for them to directly reach No. 1 in the first week .
That wasn't what he meant. It has been out here for ages but has only just become huge.

It didn't go up fast to start with. Radio picked it up after Aus and US had made it huge.

I think this is the new "Ice Ice Baby". It just sounds overplayed already.

I freaking love this. It is definitely one of the standouts from the album, but with the horns, the crazy ass lyrics and a solid vocal performance, this is one of the more original hip-hop tracks in years.
    Baaaaad relationship??

    [Verse 1:]
Nah, walk up to the club like, "What up? I got a big cock!"
I'm so pumped about some shit from the thrift shop
Ice on the fringe, it's so damn frosty
That people like, "Damn! That's a cold ass honkey."
Rollin' in, hella deep, headin' to the mezzanine,
Dressed in all pink, 'cept my gator shoes, those are green
Draped in a leopard mink, girls standin' next to me
Probably shoulda washed this, smells like R. Kelly's sheets
    (Piiisssssss)
But sh*t, it was ninety-nine cents!
Maybe they were shading Born This Way but it went unnoticed!

    +1

It's basically a bad copy of "Wut", of course Le1f will never be as big, he's black and gay.
Old but I didn't know Le1f criticized Macklemore, the similarities are clear.

He is a bit toooooooo much for mainstream music to handle though.

I have a better word but I will get murdered but definitely prefer Thrift Shop

The production is definitely the best part about this, especially the "Wut Wut" intro and the Wanz bridge. Honestly, I don't think any of his music has aged well, and his rapping was already rather lackluster to start with.

The Nate Dogg impersonator is the only tolerable thing about this tbh

I resent this song now, but it’s still better than the majority of mumble-rap and UK grime from the last few years.
