^ Agreed! It's done so amazingly well in many places - I think it's a shame it hasn't smashed as much here - though it's definitely a hit.

I See Fire has been included on X, so I think that updates can be posted in the X thread from now on .

    From Yahoo last night:

Ed Sheeran Puts Three Songs in the Top 30
    Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch

Ed Sheeran has three songs in the top 30 on this week’s Hot 100.His former top 10 hit “Don’t” holds at #17 in its 26th week, “Thinking Out Loud” leaps from #39 to #24 in its ninth week, and “Make It Rain” is the week’s top new entry at #34. This triple play comes just five days after Sheeran received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year for his sophomore album, x.

"Don’t" and "Thinking Out Loud" are both from x. “Make It Rain” is from the TV show Sons Of Anarchy.

"Thinking Out Loud" returns to #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart this week. This is its second week on top, making it Sheeran’s longest-running #1 hit to date in his homeland. "Sing" spent one week on top in June. x is on track to log its 10th week at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart next week.

This week’s big Hot 100 news is Hozier's “Take Me To Church” rising to #2, ending a 15-week streak in which female solo artists had a lock on the top two. That was the lead of a Chart Watch blog which we posted Wednesday. If you missed it, here's a link. This blog will deal with key debuts and moves below the top 10.

Beyoncé's “7/11” jumps from #18 to #13 in its second week. Beyoncé, too, received an Album of the Year nomination last week for her hit album Beyoncé … “I Don’t F**k With You” by Big Sean featuring E-40 rebounds from #15 to #14 in its 11th week. The song has climbed as high as #11 … Mr. Probz's “Waves” rebounds from #20 to #18 in its 16th week. The song has climbed as high as #14. It spent two weeks at #1 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart in May.

O.T. Genasis's “Coco” jumps from #38 to #28 in its third week … Pentatonix's “Mary, Did You Know?” leaps from #60 to #38 in its third week. The quintet's version of Harry Simeone Chorale's 1958 hit”The Little Drummer Boy” reached #13 last year.

Matt McAndrew's version of Damien Rice's 2001 song “The Blower's Daughter” is the week's second-highest new entry at #40. McAndrew is a contestant on The Voice.Rice, an Irish singer/songwriter, has yet to crack the Hot 100 as an artist … Tim McGraw's “Shotgun Rider” rebounds from #47 to #43 in its 10th week. It's #1 on Hot Country Songs for the second week.

Mariah Carey's 1994 holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” re-enters the chart at #50. The song has sold 2,795,000 digital copies, more than any other Christmas song in digital history … Raelynn's “God Made Girls” leaps from #86 to #61 in its seventh week … Luke Bryan's “I See You” jumps from #89 to #70 in its second week … WALK THE MOON's “Shut Up And Dance” jumps from #88 to #75 in its fourth week.

    CSPC: Ed Sheeran Popularity Analysis

In a music world when discussions are massively dominated by female artists, the likes Ed Sheeran are rarely considered seriously when speaking about the biggest artists of our era. Twitter discussions and Instagram followings aren’t the be-all and end-all of success yet, so we better check his sales figures before making conclusions.

    10/8 Billboard charts:

    https://theawl.com/soundscan-surprises- ... .di97yga4q

    Soundscan Surprises, Week Ending 9/22
Back-catalog sales numbers of note from Nielsen SoundScan.

The definition of “back catalog” is: “at least 18 months old, have fallen below ?100 on the Billboard 200 and do not have an active single on our radio.”

Only on the back catalog could Metallica drop four percentage points and still be number one. Metallica held five of the top thirty-two spots last week because they’re on tour in advance of their new double LP Hardwired…to Self-Destruct. Last night they played Webster Hall and just walked onstage and played, no intro, no opener. Very Metallica if you ask me (don’t ask me).

It’s been kind of a slow week otherwise, in the business of old record sales, but there are still some gems. Ed Sheeran is neck and neck with himself; his two records that are the same symbol just rotated forty-five degrees (+, X) each sold thirty-one hundred copies (don’t @ me about the serifs and letters vs. symbols, also did you know the plus sign doesn’t italicize in this font? Now you do).

Sheryl Crow and James Taylor and Korn all have greatest hits records on the chart, which seems very white and very expected. Matchbox Twenty only dropped two spots. But who are The Booth Brothers who have a Best of? A Southern Gospel trio, of course! They are touring the “Mexican Riviera” in November if you’re interested…

    1. METALLICA METALLICA 4,501 copies
    3. MATCHBOX TWENTY YOURSELF OR SOMEONE LIKE YOU 4,129 copies
    7. SHEERAN*ED + 3,143 copies
    8. SHEERAN*ED X 3,130 copies

    29. CROW*SHERYL VERY BEST OF SHERYL CROW 1,945 copies
