Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn will star in the Olivia Colman role. David Tennant reprises his original role but is renamed Emmett Carver.

The remake – to be called Gracepoint – will start filming in January and screen towards the end of next year on US channel Fox.

With Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall in place as executive producer, the series will follow the same plot, with the same dramatic denouement that gripped 8.3million British viewers in April.

Miss Colman will reprise her role when the ITV drama returns to British screens for a second series next year.

Interesting! We know how good Anna Gunn is so we'll see if she can outperform the brilliant Olivia Coleman. I hope Tennant doesn't adopt a US accent :-?

Glad to see Tennant get a role on a US series, he deserves to be a big star in America outside of Who fans.

I loved the UK series and will watch both series 2 of the UK series as well as the US adaptation.

do we know this for a fact?

Russell Tovey is going to be on a US series on HBO called Looking, and yet he is still playing a Brit who just lives in the US on it judging from the trailer where we hear him speak. Not every actor does the Julian McMahon/John Barrowman thing and adopts a whole new accent.

^That IS Barrowman's accent and has been since he was a young kid. He's Scottish but grew up in Illinois, so he didn't adapt it for acting.

HBO may be more likely to want actors being "themselves" than a network channel like Fox. Tennant is only known to subscribers of BBC America. Most Americans don't know him.

    Pic of Anna Gunn:
David Tennant and Anna Gunn feature in new images from Fox's upcoming series Gracepoint.

The crime thriller is a remake of ITV's hit whodunnit Broadchurch, which also starred Tennant.

In the US series, Tennant plays Detective Emmett Carver, while Breaking Bad star Gunn is his partner Detective Ellie Miller.

Michael Peña, Nick Nolte and Jackie Weaver will also star in the drama, written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.

"The pilot episode sticks very closely to the original," Tennant said of Gracepoint earlier this year.

"[But] as the story goes on it eases out a bit, there's extra twists and turns, some characters are more developed. I think the story will go in directions that fans wouldn't necessarily recognise."

The new images were first unveiled by TVLine.

A second series of the original Broadchurch is also in the works, though it is unclear if Tennant will return.

Trailer - Tennant with a dodgy US accent, hopeless version of the mother not a patch on Jodie Whittaker: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 62663.html

The ending has been changed, may be a different killer. Does look about as pointless as the US Killing to me.

What a waste of time! Why even make Tennant American?! Ridiculous.

Now that's gross and probably shows why british series shouldn't have their U.S. versions.

Halfway through and it's virtually identical to the original. Can't see why David Tennant wanted to do it. Mostly well played and directed though Nick Nolte doing the hounded old man is not a patch on David Bradley.
