Has anyone else downloaded Spotify? My Mum sent me an invite last week so I've downloaded it and it's brilliant, it's like iTunes except you don't have to download the files, you can just queue them onto a playlist and steam them, there's some stuff I haven't been able to find on there, but in general it's pretty brilliant for listening to just about anything.

Apparantly for now it is invite only but they are opening it out to more people gradually.

I've just installed this, it's really good! Quite similar functionality to iTunes, obviously better for old music than new but overall I like it more than last.fm as it's a programme rather than a website. The advert every 30 minutes is the only downside but it's worth it.

Erm, Spotify's free to join for people in the UK last I heard, and it's all the rave on another uk based site I frequent.

I'm not too hot on it myself, doesn't really offer me more than Last.fm does (in the playing stakes) at present, and the selection of albums and songs is rather baffling to say the least.

I would provide an example of the weird database, but I've just booted up the program and it's taking an age to update.

    Edit: It's updated now...

    Radiohead (and associated) albums:
    Kid A
    The Best of
    Roots of Radiohead (their influences)
    Street Spirit (Fade Out) ...single
    Airbag/How Am I Driving?
Anyone Can Play Radiohead: A Tribute To Radiohead
    Instrumental Renditions of Radiohead
    Various OSTs and other compilations.

What are the chances of the ownership to the publishing rights changing for a couple of years either side of Kid-A, whilst still being on EMI, and also having the earlier single and later Best of in the same situation?

It seems odd that whoever owns the rights (probably EMI as the Best of was released by them) would single out those scant few ahead of other more popular releases? Just doesn't make any sense really.

I signed up a few weeks ago but haven't really used it much... I heard that a lot of stuff has been removed though, any ideas?
This post is highly unlikely to be serious. Please treat it accordingly. Unless it's music-related, in which case I'm damn well right.

    Oh great!
    Dear Spotify user,

Last week we were alerted to a group that managed to compromise
our protocols. After investigating we concluded that this group
had gained access to information that could allow testing of a
very large number of passwords, possibly finding the right one.
The information was exposed due to a bug that we discovered and
fixed on December 19th, 2008. Until last week we were unaware
that anyone had had access to our protocols to exploit it.

Along with passwords, registration information such as your email
address, birth date, gender, postal code and billing receipt
details were potentially exposed. Credit card numbers are not
stored by us and were not at risk. All payment data is handled
by a secure 3rd party provider.

If you have an account that was created on or before December 19th 2008,
we strongly suggest that you change your password and strongly
encourage you to change your passwords for any other services
where you use the same password.

When choosing your password we provide you with an indicator of
the password strength to help you choose a good one. To change
your password please visit your profile page on our website.

    https://www.spotify.com/en/account/profile/

For the technically minded amongst you, the information that may
have been exposed when our protocols were compromised is the
password hashes. As stated, we never store passwords, and they
have never been sent over the Internet unencrypted, but the
combination of the bug and the group's reverse-engineering of
our encrypted streaming protocol may have given outsiders access
    to individual hashes.

The hashes are salted, making attacks using rainbow tables unfeasible.
Short or otherwise bad passwords could still be vulnerable to
offline targeted brute-force or dictionary attacks on individual
users, but you could not run attacks in parallel. Also, there
has been no known breach of our internal systems. A complete user
database has not been leaked, but until December 19th, 2008 it was
possible to access the password hashes of individual users had
you reverse-engineered the Spotify protocol and knew the
    username.

We are really sorry about this and hope you accept our apologies.
We're doubling our efforts to keep the systems secure in order
to prevent anything like this from happening again.

    Regards,
    The Spotify Team

Anyone finding this really unreliable at the moment? Nearly every song I play keeps pausing every 5/10 seconds and it's really slow generally :-?

It's finally released in The Netherlands today, making it the 7th country in the world where the Spotify service is available. I'm going to check this out, it looks cool

Yes, it should. It says you can enable your Last.FM profile and scrobbling, but it doesn't work for me (yet).

New music is always there on the release date. And if you change the song after it finnish the advert doesn't appear.

Spotify is my saviour at work, I love it.

It's also been great for me discovering music. I love being able to listen to new albums straight away and then I can decide if I want to buy them or not.

I'm really glad it works with Last FM too.

Hey, great idea, Chun. I've got a question.
I'm using Spotify and I wonder if there are playlists for UK or US weekly charts. I would love to have playlists from the 80s and 90s weekly top 40 charts. It's always annoying to have to search for the songs on YouTube or copy/paste them from chart lists into Spotify and search them there. I know of this site http://playlists.net/ but could not find what I need. Maybe somebody wants do make the playlists for me..

Hello. I'm new here and this is my first post. I wanted to tell you that this is a very good question. Actually, I had the same thought yesterday. A solution would be much appreciated.

Chun, what a coincidence. Is there a help forum on Spotify? I saw there is something like an upvote function and this feature was wanted by a user but I could not upvote it because I forgot my password.

Yeah I also hate it when Chrome forgets to ask me to save my password. What a hassle. Like Chun and Chun said before, this feature would help me a lot. Maybe there is a fourth person who's got the same wish. Don't now if that would be of any practical use but it would help emotionally. Maybe somebody with a different name, I suppose.
