Wow, a revenue-based charts system sounds really difficult to keep track of.
It would be interesting though, given how many times people will complain "w/e, its sales are only up/big cuz of discounts." But if it still made more $ than any other album that week even given discounts, complaints would be lessened...Comment

Katy is holding up so well!
Do you know Taiwan? If not, check the map, it's in Southeastern Asia and beside mainland China, BUT YOU MUST KNOW, it doesn't belong to China!Comment

'GRAMMY Nominees' Album Set for Top 10 Debut on Billboard 200
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | January 24, 2014
According to industry forecasters, the 18-song album "Nominees" compilation may sell around 40,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Jan. 26. That should be enough to secure a top 10 bow for the title -- and possibly a top five entrance. The album features a slew songs by the current nominees in contention at this Sunday's (Jan. 26) GRAMMY Awards show, including Lorde and Daft Punk.
The top 10 of next week's Billboard 200 chart will be revealed on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
The long-running compilation "GRAMMY Nominees" album series, which launched in 1995, has collected 12 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. The series has spawned more than 20 releases tied to the GRAMMY Awards, and has sold 9.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Last year's edition, "2013 GRAMMY Nominees," became the highest-charting effort in the franchise, as it climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart the week after the 2013 GRAMMY Awards. That week, it vaulted from No. 11 to No. 2 with 88,000 sold (a gain of 136%) for the week ending Feb. 17. That sum also earned the series its best sales week since "GRAMMY Nominees 2007" moved 131,000 the week after the 2007 show.
This year's "GRAMMY Nominees" album was unusually released in the same week as the Awards show itself (Jan. 26). A year ago, the album bowed a few weeks before the show itself. Traditionally, the GRAMMY Awards take place in February on CBS, but this year, the show was moved up to Jan. 26 -- likely to avoid direct competition with NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics (which begin on Feb. 7).
Next year, the GRAMMY will return to a February air date, as they are slated to air on Feb. 8, 2015.
As for the rest of next week's top 10 on the Billboard 200, watch for pop duo a Great Big World to notch the highest debut, with its first album, "Is There Anybody Out There?" It may sell around 45,000 or so and debut in the top five.
The current chart champ, Bruce Springsteen's "High Hopes," will likely yield the No. 1 slot to the soundtrack to "Frozen," which may sell around 85,000 copies or so. If "Frozen" returns to No. 1, it will mark the third non-consecutive week atop the list for the album. The last soundtrack to spend more than two weeks at No. 1 was "High School Musical 2," which ruled for four weeks in 2007.
Also on tap for a top 10 debut is Young the Giant, with its new album "Mind Over Matter." The latest effort for the rock band may bow with 30,000 or so, securing the act it best sales week ever and highest charting album. Its self-titled debut peaked at No. 42 in 2011, selling 10,000 in its best week (according to SoundScan).Comment

Mumford & Sons Make Grammy-Fueled Return to No. 1 on Billboard 200
By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | February 20, 2013
As forecasted a week ago, Mumford & Sons' "Babel" jumps back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the wake of its Grammy Award win for album of the year on Feb. 10. The set -- which rises 4-1 on the tally -- sold 185,000 copies in the week ending Feb. 17, according to Nielsen SoundScan, posting a weekly gain of 242%.
The figure is a bit larger than initially projected by label sources. A week ago, "Babel" was looking to maybe sell 150,000 to 170,000 in the week after the Grammy Awards. Sale pricing by the iTunes Store -- for Valentine's Day -- helped push "Babel's" sales even bigger. "Babel" was marked down to $6.99 for a limited time by iTunes and was featured in an email blast sent to its customers.
In turn, the album scores a 260% gain in download sales -- moving from 28,000 to 101,000 for the week. (The largest digital week for a non-debuting album since the week after Christmas, when Taylor Swift's "Red" sold 131,000 downloads.)
Physical sales for "Babel" last week were still robust, however -- amounting to 55% of "Babel's" sales for the frame.
"Babel" is also benefitting from two new deluxe editions of the album that were released on Feb. 5. The first, available exclusively at Target, includes three bonus live tracks. A second version, dubbed the "Gentlemen of the Road" edition, was widely-released and boasts a 12 extra live cuts.Comment

Grammys Spur Early Sales Gains for Daft Punk, Kacey Musgraves, P!nk
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | January 27, 2014
The official sales figures aren't in yet, but industry sources suggest that some of the Grammy Awards' biggest winners could be Kacey Musgraves, P!nk and Daft Punk -- all of which might see sales gains of more than 100% for the week ending January 26.
All of those artists -- plus a cavalcade more -- were on hand for the annual Grammy Awards ceremony, broadcast on CBS on Sunday, January 26. Daft Punk took home multiple awards, including two of the biggest trophies: for album of the year ("Random Access Memories") and record of the year ("Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell and Nile Rodgers).
Music sales for the week ending January 26, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan, will not be released until Wednesday morning (January 29). However, label sources have indicated that a number of albums and songs are due for big gains once those figures come out.
Among the albums aiming for significant gains: P!nk's "The Truth About Love," which may grow by more than 125% (to 8,500 or so for the week) and Sara Bareilles' "The Blessed Unrest" (up by more than 250% to around 8,500 as well).
Both artists performed on the show, and were nominated in major categories. P!nk's song, "Just Give Me a Reason," was performed by the artist -- in one of her trademark high-flying routines -- and was up for song of the year. While it didn't win that category, the performance and exposure yielded a big sales surge for the song. It may sell around 40,000 for the week -- a gain of more than 130% compared to last week (19,000 in the week ending January 19, according to SoundScan).
Kacey Musgraves' "Same Trailer Different Park," which won the televised award for best country album (beating out the likes of Taylor Swift and Blake Shelton), could gain by more than 100% for the week. It might sell around 9,000 -- up greatly from last week's tally of 4,000.
Daft Punk's album of the year winner, "Random Access Memories," may see a 75% jump in sales as well. A week ago, it sold 4,000.
The new "2014 Grammy Nominess" compilation album is also set for a big debut on the chart. Released last Tuesday (January 21), the album may have sold around 60,000 or so in the week ending January 26. That's up from the 40,000 that was initially forecast a week ago. The album is off to a faster start than normal, as it was unusually released in the same week as the broadcast of the awards itself. Traditionally, the album -- which boasts an array of nominated artists and songs -- arrives to market weeks before the Awards.

Sources say the "Grammy Nominees" album may enter at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The top 10 of that chart will be unveiled on Wednesday, January 29.
All of these albums will likely have an even bigger gain next week (ending February 2), when a full week's worth of post-Grammys impact will be felt. This week's charts will only reflect sales generated in the hours during and after the show, through midnight on Sunday night (January 26).
In terms of digital songs, the largest seller of the songs performed on the show is Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," which was already the biggest selling song of last week. It's hard to compare her song to anything else that was performed on the show, simply because it was already the top selling song in the country -- and gaining in sales -- before it was performed on the broadcast. A week ago, it sold 261,000 downloads.
Among the songs performed on the show that are aiming for 100% or more increases this week: P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason," John Legend's "All Of Me," Musgraves' "Follow Your Arrow" (up by more than 200%) and Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" (which may grow by more than 3,000% to around 18,000 downloads).
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love," featuring Mary Lambert -- which was the centerpiece of an elaborate mass wedding ceremony during the show -- may grow by more than 100% as well. It might have sold around 25,000 for the week ending January 26 -- up from 11,000 a week ago.Comment
