Peaks of the winning songs in the act's native country before the win:
    2006 - Lordi - No. 1 (Finland)
    2009 - Alexander Rybak - No. 1 (Norway)
    2010 - Lena - No. 1 (Germany)
    2012 - Loreen - No. 1 (Sweden)
    2013 - Emmelie de Forest - No. 2 (Denmark)

I left out the years 2007, 2008 and 2011 because the winners of these years are from countries whose charts either don't exist or aren't easily accessible

Interesting that it's a very different situation in Conchita's case: Rise Like A Phoenix charted on the Austrian Singles Chart for only one week, peaking at No. 51. Seems like the Austrians didn't believe in the song at first.

Conchita's song was a flop before Eurovision and she actually performed it on Dancing with the Stars in Austria! I guess there are many reasons why it was a flop; first of all Austrians stopped caring about ESC after the disappointing results they were getting every year, secondly Conchita wasn't taken seriously and she was chosen internally.

The winners you mentioned weren't selected internally but they participated in the national final of their countries and won by public vote. Conchita had taken part in the national final of her country back in 2012 and her song peaked at #12 (she came 2nd in the national final)

I think Lordi didn't peak at #1 before their victory!

Actually I wasn't entirely sure which week was the one the ESC took place as the Finnish charts seem to be a bit confusing. In the end, I used the week 21/2006 as that was the one their album zoomed to No. 1 and the single reached No. 1 two week earlier. But even if that's not right, it would be a top 10 peak either way and so much higher than Rise Like A Phoenix' current peak in Austria.

If I'm not mistaken, Lordi's album made number one the week after they had won the ESC. The single had indeed topped the chart before the contest. Ironically, the single didn't even benefit from their victory (unlike the album), as it sold out when they won and consequently dropped out of the charts a week later, as they had already taken it out of print (to improve album sales). If digital sales had been counted back then, I think "Hard Rock Hallelujah" could have spent several weeks at number one. When the first download chart was released in early 2007, the song was still in the top 10!

Looks like the song will do even better than expected. Now up to #1 in Switzerland (The Common Linnets were there with a pretty big lead for a few days!!).

Conchita also has nearly 600,000 likes on facebook she had around 100k before the final... just for example, Loreen has 350k and Emmelie 120k

Doesn't Radio 2 playlist the winner's song by default for a week each year?

Not in this case it seems, and no other UK airplay either.

Maybe next week? They did playlist last year's winner Emmelie de Forest. Conchita is selling based on hype at the moment...

I don't think it'll get playlisted at all and it's anybody's guess if that has to do with the music.

There might be other promo coming up - can you imagine Conchita Wurst chatting away on the BBC breakfast show like Loreen did?

Though I do think the station that does all the ESC coverage should at leat C-list the winning song for a bit.

    Nice debut, thanks for posting.

France isn't here for ESC songs in many years, so i'm glad to see it that high.

Also already outpeaked "Only Teardrops" (#79)

I think there must be a lot of demand for Conchita in UK, i mean she's controversial and even the US media paid attention to her. I think she should definitely promote.

Great How is it possible to have sold over 1,000 copies in one day? It wasn't doing well on iTunes before the final.

iTunes charts, not official singles chart.

Conchita's single is available as an import on amazon. Physical singles hardly exist nowadays.

Loreen peaked at #26 and Emmelie at #79. not bad for a country that doesn't care about ESC.
