Looks like queen is going to be on VOGUE! These are the two December covers of British Vogue (I believe there will only be two for this particular publication) so I wonder if Mariah landed American Vogue, or another country’s December cover??

Anna Wintour hates Mariah's guts, so it probably won't be American Vogue.

Yes, lol. That was supposed to be her segue into getting a cover. Probably not a September cover, but who knows? There’s also the fact that Mariah incensed a ton of designers and eventually stopped hanging with Andre Leon Talley.

Her relationship with Vogue seems to have improved, since their website covers her regularly and gave her that feature a couple of years ago.

Mariah being a fashion icon in her peak really was such a wasted opportunity imo; if she had taken fashion seriously in 97, for example, and continued that, she probably would’ve already been an icon in fashion to this day!

I did a whole write-up with pics last year on her friendship with Andre and her campaign to get a Vogue cover. I'm too lazy to find it now, lol. They were aggressively going for it in 2005, which is why she was so Park Avenue/lady who lunches for a good bit during the TEOM era.

Yeah, Marvet was giving her walking papers a few days after she told a magazine (I think it was People) that Andre Leon Talley's big behind was fixing Mariah's relationships with fashion houses. That was hardly the biggest fumble, but it was huge. Marvet let some other things slip prior to that, and I guess this was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

It was a big deal for her to blurt this out because Mariah and André were working on leveling Mariah up fashion-wise, and even though it was rather obvious, it didn't need to be confirmed publicly. IDK if you remember, but Mariah was frequently dressing to the nines and looked amazing and classy while doing it.

I forget which party this was from, but this was one of the outfits he arranged for her. Getty Images says that she also wore this and the dog to go see Wendell Williams before the party:

André was still running things at Vogue, and a lot of it was aimed at getting her a Vogue cover. She wanted it badly (she campaigned so HARD and was on her best behavior. André wanted it for her, too, but the cover never materialized (Anna will put a porn star on the cover, but not Mariah freaking Carey), so she went back to her usual tacky style. Given how she dresses these days, I don't think she looked that bad back then. She gets in her own way so freaking much, but we still love her.



There were actually several outfits that he arranged for her. I think it was equal parts introducing her grown up image to the masses and helping her get her overdue respect. Even though he ended up telling she was fat (he was and still is a whale, so I don't know where he gets off talking about anyone's weight), he did an amazing job.
